Have fun ;)

social.bioware.com/page/da2-patches

Some Bioware quotes:

Just to clarify that you do NOT need to have a DX11 capable GPU to use the high resolution textures. To get the full benefit you need to run the game using the DirectX 11 renderer, which is backwards compatible with DX10. So even if you have a DX10 GPU (and Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7) you'll still be able to run the game using the DirectX 11 renderer.

If you can only play using the DirectX 9 renderer you'll still get a small benefit out of the texture pack. In particular certain character textures will look nicer, but most of the benefits on the environments don't apply to DX9. The reason for this is technical, and it has to do with the maximum texture sizes allowed by the DX9 vs DX11 APIs.

Even if you have less than 1 gig of vram, by all means go ahead and experiment with the download. At worst case the game will run very slowly when hi-res textures are enabled, but if that happens it's easy to turn the hi-res textures off from the video options menu. The amount of the slowdown could vary depending on where you are in the game and how much memory exactly you have.

We've added the 1GB as a guideline so people know what kind of hardware will support this glitch free, but if you're willing to get some performance impact you should still download the texture pack and experiment with it.

You need a Direct-X 11 card for this? Boo.

Oh so "very high" for DX11. I wonder if that means there is a high setting for DX9/10 users?

Most of the benefits from the Hi-resolution textures will only be seen if you are able to run the game in DirectX 11.

There is still probably some improvements across the board.

No, you don't. It says you'll see the most benefit with a DX11 card, but it's not required. A DX11 card is required for "very high" graphics settings.

Wowza, video card with 1024 memory! That's kind of a lot.

Is SLI supported so I can use the memory off both my cards? I have two 768 cards instead of one big giant one. If I can't, I will be sad panda, cause I just upgraded those puppies.

The Hi-res Texture Pack is only needed for the DA2 Pre-Installed, or the normal versions of DA2 will be also needing this?

Aw yeah, I just have enough video memory for it. No idea if it'll be feasible to run it anyway, but that bodes well.

Yes, VRam in SLI is seen as if it was a single card, so, in your case, 1536 (768x2).

You can extract the .erf files from the exe with a program like 7zip(you have to look for an mac equivalent) so you should be able to manually copy and install it.

Unfortunately, even if you have 3 768 MB graphics cards in SLI, your memory is still only 768 MB. The RAM does not add up for multi-GPU solutions.

So will steam auto patch this or should I just download it from here after the game unlocks? (I have it pre-installed)

Wrong. It has passed from a lot the time where drivers considered only the VRAM of the first gpu. Now VRAM is shared and seen as a whole.

Yeah that might be a path. My other is to install it under boot camp and then copy over the resources. Still holding out hope they will release it for the Mac natively. I mean they need a way to push mac updates anyway.
