Should the steam users download them?

You can download them if you wish, they should work fine with a Steam install last I heard. They are not installed by default with the Steam version.

Owen.

what do we have to do after it finishes installation?

edit: figured it out, have to go to options and enable the pack.

Just open the EXE, it installs pretty seamlessly.

Question... I just downloaded it. When I open the file it says I need to have DAII installed, which I already have (at least it's pre-loaded from Steam). Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks for releasing the texture pack. A lot of people wanted it. Cool that you listened to them.

Will there be future updates of the package? I assume that the pack supports currently released DLCs (is this correct?), but it cannot anticipate on future ones.

The DA2 files you see on disk are still encrypted. The DA2 registry entries aren't initialized either. So, the installer correctly thinks the game is not installed. When the game unlocks these files will be decrypted (which takes a little while, BTW) and the registry will be updated before you can play it. The same texture pack installer should work fine after that.

Just tried to install the high-res textures after I installed through Steam. The installer complains that I haven't installed the game, which is clearly not the case as I am able to run it fine.

ISSUE: Does not work with Steam install. Detects the game as "not installed."
FIX: Rename texture pack from .exe to .7z and open with 7zip. (Or another extraction program). Unpack the contents into your Steam install folder under:

\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age ii\\packages\\core\\textures\\high\\

you only need to unpack the two files into this folder: "highreslevelartfp.erf", and "highrescharacterartfp.erf"

And done.

edit: Don't forget to enable the high res texture option in the drop-down box under Video in the configuration program.

Might I add:  The high-res textures aren't all mapped right, resulting in odd effects from discolored armors to glossy city banners & cave floors.  A remedy is to copy
texturepack.erf
from
textures/medium/
to
textures/high/
.
