I just downloaded and installed the beta Nvidia drivers. Fixed every issue I was having. Problem solved. Looks like Nvidia's just being slow/careful.

I've installed the beta driver as well, and yet things are still laggy/choppy/unplayable on very high settings with all the other settings like motion blur, etc. on my GTX 460. My processor is core i7 820 or something, ram is 6gb and os is windows 7 64-bit. Its disappointing that I have to run this game at high settings, and yet I'll only get 40 - 60 fps during cutscenes. Otherwise it'll be 15-50 fps. I even overclocked my GTX 460...

Installed Hi-Res textures, NVidia beta drivers, SP1 for Win7x64(unsure if it helped, installed anyway)
(I7-930 2.8GHz[auto-oc],eVGA GTX480sc,12GB1600-3xchannel,1920x1200@60hz)

DirectX11 is now playable.
Gameplay is now smooth/fluid/looking good. Below are my settings, I will keep bumping them up and adding more options as I play and update here what settings I top off at after I have had some time to actually enjoy the game.

1920x1200, Full Screen, DX11, VSync, Very High, AA:2, AF:4, Hi-Res Textures.

Off to kill some darkspawn.

I run DX11 with my setup - had to lower the textures from Very High to High because it was slightly jumpy, and the framerate is back @ 60+ now (this is with almost everything else at max, running @ 1680x1050 full screen resolution)

My setup:

AMD x6 1055T (2.8-3.2, auto-OC's when needed) liquid cooled
2x xfx 5670 1gb gpu's CF'ed
8 gb DDR3 1600 Ram
Win7 64bit

Honestly have no idea why I'm getting better performance than most other people with similar setups (the CF'ed 5670's are about equal to a 5850 or so, just saves money to do it that way)

As soon as new drivers are released in a few days, I'm sure the DX11 performance will equal out for everyone.

i5-760 @ 3.8ghz
8gb DDR3-2000
MSI GTX460 Hawk x2

Get 140-150fps in Metro 2033 at very high details at 1920x1080 and blows DA2's visuals out of the water. Disappointed I get 15~fps at very high no AA, and only about 45~fps at high no AA in DX11 renderer.

I can say that with a GTX 580 running the same simple scene in the beginning (after the epic fight), I get the following results...

DX11 - ~30fps (disabled blur so that I could compare to DX10) (Very high setting)
DX10 - ~50fps (same scene as above, same settings, same everything) (High setting)
DX9 - 60fps (I vSynch so 60 is tops -- smooth as butter as someone said ;) ) (Medium setting)

High res texture or not, I get the *same* same fps, so it's not the textures. Latest nVidia drivers (the beta ones dated March 2)

DirectX 9 is smooth, DirectX 10 is smooth, DirectX 11 is completely unplayable. I'm getting 15-17 fps. Good job, Bioware)

How do you guys get DX10? I can only select DX9 and 11. That said, I get a fairly buttery 58-59 DX11 high, full AF no AA, all checkboxes unchecked for extra options. It irks me to no end I have v-sync on for 60hz, and it jitters around 58. Why not just go to 60? :)

edit; this is with the beta drivers.

Same here. The only difference is: I've got 470 and 4gb ram
At the moment I'm playing on High with HD textures enabled. Sometimes it even drops to 30 or so fps, but I just can't play on medium because then it looks ugly like DAO.
I hope the patch is in works, OR ELSE...:bandit: I'll be playing DAO.

My system specs are
I72600K
8GB DDR3 2133Mhz
2x 5870 Crossfire

Playing @ 5760x1080

Game is really Choppy, Especially during battles and dialogue. Even on High with 4xAA No blur/Field Diffusion.

Same setting though @ 1920x1080, the framerates are very playable.

Hopefully ATI release some Beta driver for the game soon.

So your specs aren't the same; 2 out of 3 different isn't quite the same.

I got a smooth framerate by tweaking my graphics a little bit. It's fluid, but I'd love to opt for DX10. I can probably max it out in DX10 render. DX11 features are purely cosmetic and optional; something I'd like to avoid.

Hi guys,

looks like some people are trying asking way to much from their rigs...

instead of struggling why not lower your resolution and then put everything else to the max...i never play my games any higher than 1024 by 768 which is the native rez of my monitor. and the games look great!

some guys push it over the native rez of their monitor and still higher and wonder why they are losing frame rates.

if you dont have an insane rig you cannot have high rez and everything else to the max.

you have to balance things out...

lower your monitors' rez and then put AA high and turn the other stuff on and you should have a decent framerate.

or make you rez higher but turn off aa and the other stuff out.

its that simple folks...

It'll kind of nasty if it's not in the monitors native res, I have a 1080p monitor, and i dont run it at that, i looks fugly (extremely stretched out, out of proportion)

i have an older dell monitor flat panel...

but as i said try to lower your rez somewhat, it should make a difference in your FPS.

Did ATI release any new Beta drivers.

Rig:

5870
i5-750
4Gb RAM
W7 64

1920x1080
All maxed
High rez textures
DX11

I get maybe 2 frames a second?

same problem here, first i noticed that when i'm using very high video settings i get like 10 fps.. then i downloaded beta drivers for my graphic card and performance increased, but still not enough to play a game without lagz...
Amd Phenom II x4 B50 3.1 ghz
4 gb ddr3 1600 mhz
Nvidia GTS 450 with 1gb ram ddr5
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

so i guess we just have to wait for next driver update to make this game run smooth on Very High settings... High works like twice better than Very High for me and Medium just runs without any lagz.

Try 4AA instead of 8AA.

I noticed a large improvement in FPS with hardly a difference graphically.

I was experiencing the black ground corruption myself.  The Nvidia Beta drivers seem to have cleaned that up.

Yay beta drivers.

Boo having to use them.

Can anyone tell me how to check my fps in this game?  Is there an on-board function for that, or must I use 3rd party software?

HP ZR30w (30inch IPS LCD monitor)  (Resolution @ 2560x1600) =P
Core i7-950 3.06ghz
2 x EVGA GTX480 (SLI)
ASUS P6DT Deluxe X58 Motherboard
Kingwin PSU 1220W
6GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
60GB SSD Corsair (for Windows 7)
150GB WD Raptor HD

running the beta 267.4 drivers from Nvidia.

game runs around 40-60 fps especially at my resolution, nothing modified as in overclocked cards or cpu, although i probably should soon. I still feel like it should kill this game hands down maxed out.

EDIT

I failed to mention that I have VERY HIGH settings on, check mark boxes are left unchecked, Anistrophic is set at 2x and AA is set at 2x. In theory I would expect to set the AA way up to 8x and Anistrophic to 16x but AA at 8x is just horrid performance wise.

Update to my previous post, this is what works for me. Will still be watching for future fixes tho..

(I7-930@2.8GHz(Auto-OC)/evgaGTX480sc/12GB1600 3chan/Win7Pro x64 SP1)

53-61.1 FPS in heavily crowded area (tested with eVGA Precision Pro 2.02)

If you have a similar build, this may help you...
Until NVidia/Bioware release updates/fixes/new drivers, these are my primary settings:

NVidia Beta Drivers, DX11, High Settings, Hi-res textures, AA/AF @ Max, VSync, 1920x1200
(adjust AA/AF depending on your machine, and certain in-game environments[combat, etc])

Simply adjust your settings either from in-game, or the config utility until you find settings you are content with. Last resort, just play using DX9 settings if you have to.

Good luck, happy darkspawn hunting!

I just got Dragon Age II SE... I'm running an Intel i7 950, 12 Gigs of DDR3@1333 and 2 EVGA/Nvidia GTX 470s in SLI.  I've installed DX 11 (or atleast I think I have... Windows doesn't seem to recognize the change) and I"ve installed the Hi Res Texture pack.

I figured with a setup like I've got I could just totally max everything right out, so I did 16x anistropic filtering, 16x AA, VERY HIGH Graphic Detail, Occlusion... the Whole 9..... And MAN is the game jumpy!    Even the cutscenes are really realy jump... everything just jumps around.

Any ideas as to why?

Now as a working solution, I"ve toned down the AA and Filtering to 4x each, and set the graphics down to High, instead of VERY High.... and that seems to work just fine.    But I'm curious as to why, with a system like I'm running... why I can't max everything right out.... any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
