From what I've been reading there is NO auto-attack option in Console DA2?

The thread with the Escapist review (the one rating it 5/5). The reviewer mentions that you can toggle auto-attack, and he was apparently playing the 360 version.

Bull**** too. The game that is being reviewed is not the game that we are getting on release date.
Or the reviews are not to be trusted... I don't even know what to think

Indeed.
I've always treated reviews with a grain of salt, but this issue really has me wondering.

OK: Here is the story.
Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.
Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.
We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.

Yeah I watched that review... Not sure I trust it at all. Yahtzee is funny when he does his "reviews" of games... but I am not sure I trust them as a credible source for game info.

The "accident" isn't why people are mad.. It's the deception about the issue that is what people are mad at.

Yea, I mentioned in that thread, I always take any review with a grain of salt. I don't normally follow game reviews, but book reviews, car reviews, etc. There's always some give and take between the company and the reviewer, which I understand.
But this guy either flat out didn't check his facts - which makes him a ******-poor reviewer - or he had something we won't get - which is its own problem.

That they said it would be in the game up until a few hours ago.
And to the people bringing up The Escapist; Press. Copy.

Hmmm, either the review copies were different, or the reviewer actually lied. Either way, it makes me wonder about the veracity of the review. If an older version of the game is actually what is being released, there will probably be additional issues that were fixed in the final version.
Anyway, it was pretty sleazy not releasing this information until after the retail version preorders shipped.

To have this only be reported by a bioware employee as a casual post on the second page in a non-stickied thread will only compound the feeling that Bioware has deceived its customers.

That would really amount to nothing more than damage control at this point, but I am sure it will be done. Then there will be a patch at some date down the road and all will be well in the world again, lol.
Whatever, I am fine with the combat the way it is, it is the blatant deception towards their fanbase that bothers me. Looking forward to the game still, but it's stuff like this that makes you lose respect for BioWare. I hate to say it, but it is what it is.

How will *not* having autoattack affect DA2? Does it make the game unplayable, or do you simply have to program in tactics for all of your party members?
Quill74Pen
It means that console users will be forced to spam X or A or whatever craxy letters they put on controllers these days.

It's a bit annoying that they rely on patches to fix issues like this that rightfully shouldn't have been issues in a game that has gone gold. Or that's what I was going to complain about... but maybe if this were released in an alternate reality where they didn't rely on the patch crutch, sure the issue could have been fixed prior to release, but they would have had to delay the release to accommodate that.
I'd rather have a week delay. Imagine how pissed the people who don't have LIVE or PSN must feel.

What it means is that you need to press "A" repeatedly to attack, unless you're using a special skill. Instead of just targeting an enemy and attacking, only pressing buttons for special skills.
Tactics for party members would need to be programmed regardless. This only effects the character you actually control.
