From what I've been reading there is NO auto-attack option in Console DA2?

And what about the people that don't have internet access? They just get screwed over?

I didn't even think about that. This is one of the main reasons this 'patch it later' attitude is disgusting.

Whatever, I am fine with the combat the way it is, it is the blatant deception towards their fanbase that bothers me. Looking forward to the game still, but it's stuff like this that makes you lose respect for BioWare. I hate to say it, but it is what it is.

I agree completely. I'm not feeling all that benevolent towards Bioware right now. It's a huge issue for me personally because I do have arthritis in my hands and until it's patched I'll be limited in how much I can play.

Manning up and making this an official announcement that can't be easily missed would at least make me feel that they're not still hoping no one will notice until after they bought it and it's too late. <_<

Since this won't be stickied, nor an announcement made, figured I'd bump it.

OK: Here is the story.

Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.

Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.

We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.

It's a bit annoying that they rely on patches to fix issues like this that rightfully shouldn't have been issues in a game that has gone gold. Or that's what I was going to complain about... but maybe if this were released in an alternate reality where they didn't rely on the patch crutch, sure the issue could have been fixed prior to release, but they would have had to delay the release to accommodate that.

I'd rather have a week delay. Imagine how pissed the people who don't have LIVE or PSN must feel.

I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised if it caused a delay of over a month. Apparently there's a lot of bureaucracy to go through even just to make what would seem like a trivial tweak.

So, basically, it's a communication misfire, not a outright evil mustache twirling lie. I can live with that, even though my xbox is not connected, and thus cannot be patched. I hope everyone can calm down.

OK: Here's the story. I don't like feeling like I've been decieved. I would prefer to use auto-attack, but honestly it wasn't a big deal for me if I had to "button mash". An annoyance to be sure, but not a deal breaker. The shady way that this info has been released however IS a deal-breaker. I have the game pre-ordered at Gamestop for in-store pickup. I'll be cancelling my pre-order instead of picking up my copy. I'm very disapointed in how Bioware handled this. Dodging the question for weeks is just shady.

At least let us know that you are actually working on a patch and that it WILL eventually be included in the console version.

I will get the game on PC, but this really sucks. Imagine the PC version not having the auto-attack feature... Yeah, I would be pissed.

So, for what it's worth, my sincere sympathies folks. And Bioware, pull yourself together, that kind of things should not happen, period, especially with all the effort made to open to the console market. Delaying the announcment is also pretty fishy.

I was going to quote several posts but decided against it, it would be way too long :P First, TJ, I loved your contract example when the thread was on the lying debate. I agree with that example because it was what happened. Not if it was a lie or not but as a show of their integrity. The contract, us buying the game on several BW posts confirming AA was in the retail. The deadline to cancel or change our order to PC was yesterday. I have no doubt they knew AA was not going to be in the retail yesterday. We signed the contract, bought game. But they decided not to inform us yesterday, and let our (contract) order to be processed and chose to "oh by the way" tell us in a thread that can get lost, "after the deadline" to cancel or switch to the PC version.

BW has shown for a long time they care about what we say, they read the forums, they respond, they listen. They have grown because of being up front, answering questions they don't have to answer. They are involved in the community. Until DA2. Apparently that person is not working for BW any longer and they replaced him with a used car salesman (not all, only the one that gave used car salesmen the bad name). Their integrity just shot through the floor and I believe, have lost the communities confidence.

As many have mentioned, it isn't whether AA is in the game or not. It is the principle, the holding back of the information until the change/cancel deadline had been reached. It doesn't matter when they found out that AA wasn't in the master, because we all know they had to have known yesterday, shoot even this morning! But no, they waited until after our deadline. I'm very disappointed in BW. There is no excuse for this. The person that made the choice to have us wait for the news until after the sales were final should be fired and not get a cookie. BWs reputation just took a dive into quicksand. Just my 2 coppers.

It does need to stay on the front page.

And yes, this may be a trivial issue in some respects. But it could have easily been a larger issue (as someone way earlier brought up, what if the "all LI"s are bi" setting didn't get into the game? Assuming they really are all bi, which, since I've been avoiding spoilers today, may or may not be true). What if the Seb DLC code wasn't in the box?

It's an integrity thing. It's an honor your words thing. It's a stand up and take responibility thing. Its a don't hide your mistakes behind a wall of silence thing.

I have no great history with Bioware or their games. This is sort of my first impression with them. This kind of thing doesn't make a good impression.

I extend my sympathies to the console players. I would be so upset if this happened on the PC version. I hope that Bioware patches this in the near future for the console users. Without autoattack, I don't know how one would be able to play on Nightmare.....

It STILL hasn't been mentioned on any gaming website I've been to. And I've gone to a lot. This is crazy. One mention on a message board is all they're going to give? The game comes out in 30 minutes guys...

Happy you guys finally came clean about it :) .

It's still emabrassing that you tried to hide the fact by saying people were playing an illegal copy. That didn't make any sense.

Wow. Those who bought the game for consoles have my sympathies. I have been a big BioWare fan over the years but I would return this immediately had this happened on PC. I already have carpal tunnel from drawing and writing. I don't need a video game to aggravate it any further.

I hope this gets solved soon. This is just silly.

I can totally understand that development flops happen like this. I just don't understand how such a basic part of the gameplay could be overlooked. Bioware is usually very thorough though. I have every confidence that they'll rectify the issue with a patch asap.
(otherwise i'll eat my hat and think twice before I preorder anymore games)

But button mashing every half second is not ok.

Woah, what?

I presume it's all been said by now after 14 pages, but c'mon!

What's worse: Leaving out the Auto-attack until you realised the demand for it or straight up *not telling the truth* about it?

I actually made a thread about it over in System Wars at Gamespot a few hours ago. The reaction was pretty mild for the most part.

I'm sure it was all just a completely honest mishap. Like the Steam version not being available until the day after the day 1 DLC deal ended.

So, since you have been making the rounds.... you could copy/paste the post on all their forums, yes? I think the community should be aware of this before they open the boxes. So at least we can give them a choice of exchanging for PC version/returning or keeping in the slim chance BW makes a patch. (Actually, I think they will wait to see what their sales are and then decide if their will be a patch).

My problem is my SE edition is on the way. If I return it and get the PC version it won't be the SE, that is bad. If, and a huge if, BW would have mentioned this yesterday I could have swapped my console SE for the PC SE. They still get the money and I get a game I can play. But they didn't. Bad BW, they need a long time-out in an ugly corner. Could this be an EA decision and them letting BW take the fall? It is all so foreign to everything BW has stood for. Almost makes you speechless. This shall be known as the great EA/BW Blindside, lol. Build reputation, gain customer trust and then blindside them. Nope never happen, but it did. It's the principle, not the button.

Why are people so annoyed over a minor thing like this? Dont give me its the principle bs. Does make the game unplayable? No. You guys are getting so worked up over such a small thing.
You guys (myself included) have no idea the pressure and what it takes into making games of this size. True some of you will have a small idea but not the full picture. It just annoys me that you guys would complain about something like this.
There could be a worse issue like the save corruption bug for the PS3 version of ME2. Im just really hacked off at you guys for going all aggro on BW for something like this. You dont know when they got the info the file wasnt included.
I could go on and on but I wont. Ill just stop here before I say something that will get me in trouble.

Save corruption bug for ME2?  Don't have PS3, don't play ME2.  Quitcha ****in.

See how that works?

The reason we're upset - well, I can only speak for me, so the reason I'M upset - is because this could have been any kind of feature - isometric camera on PC, storage chest at Hawke's house, family appearance changing, bi LI's, DLC codes not working, etc etc.

Do I personally care about this? No, and I play on the 360.  But it's a feature we were told many times for quite a while was in the game, and it's not.  And they didn't come clean until a few hours before release, when they had to have known before then.

So, yea, poor public relations.  If that's okay with you, well . . . then I guess it is.
