OK: Here is the story.

Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.

Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.

We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.

Well let's hope the first patch fixes this...  Games that have not been completed yet should not be sent out... Is it EA that are rushing you people or am I just hoping that is the problem...

It took a year for them to fix the save corruption bug on the xbox 360 on origins. That lost people hundreds of hours of gametime and was a game breaker. Do you honestly think this will be patched any time soon?

So dragon age 2 ended up being a hack and slash button mashing game...Funny how people kept denying it was dumbed down...

As much as bioware may have screwed up in production, the fact that the news were broken this late is something that EA and their PR department are solely responsible about.

If a product in anyway malfunctions, you can blame the engineering department for the malfunction itself, but NOT for how the issue was handled publically.

Any developer that broke the news early would be in breach of contract and would lose his job.

As publisher, all PR issues fall under EA's jurisdiction. So don't blame Bioware employees who prefer keeping their jobs over personal integrity, because 99% of you would do the same.

Thanks Mousers, appreciate the empathy. Just sucks, as I (and probably everyone else in this thread) had been scouring information on this since the demo came out. Don't know why they had to jerk us around. And in the grand scheme of things it's really not that big of a deal (for me), there are worse things that could happen. It's just so EA of them (as a rabid NCAA football fan who's used to seeing great mechanics ripped from the game without any apparent reason---create-a-playbook comes to mind) to take out something that was in the first and DEFINES THE GENRE OF TURN-BASED RPG which is what Bioware built their foundation on. I'm still going to enjoy the game, it just reeks of laziness and lack of concern for their fanbase. dumb, dumb dumb, dumb-dumb

I really do feel badly for the console players. How can they "think like a general" if they have to keep button mashing? And really, they won't be able to play on nightmare either. I preordered a PC copy, but I convinced my friend to pre-order DA2 and she was excited when I told her that auto attack would definitely be in the game even though it wasn't in the demo. So, this will be a bad first impression of Bioware for her. This combined with the PC read me file stating that decision you make early in DA2 and also decisions in DAO won't flag properly is really lessening my excitement for the game. Here's to wishing for patches.

Edit: Friend ordered PS3 version for clarification and played demo on ps3

Chris,

Given MS's policies on Title Updates and DLC, it occurred to me that Xbox 360 owners may be in real trouble here.

Will this file fit within the maximum permitted file size for a Title Update on Xbox Live?

If not, can BW release it as free DLC?

I really do hate that maximum file size permit.  It's retarded in this day and age.  I know that they're trying to accomadate those losers who have just the arcade and no hard drive, but if you're playing an RPG and have no hard drive.... frak you.

I dont understand why people are upset with this. Would you rather press "a" to auto-attack and have something awesome happen once or mash the "a" button and through the button awesome connection have tons of awesome things happen !!!

Exactly. I'm not holding my breath anticipating the fix coming soon, or at all given their track record on fixes. I am spending my thinking wheels on how to get through the combat with the 3 party members while I stand there and pick my nose wondering if my tactic management will be a success.

How is it stupid?  To my knowledge, arcade units without hard drives are the ONLY reason we can't have properly sized updates.  The ONLY reason we couldn't get the correct visuals for DA:Awakenings because of their buggy code that interacted with the Warden's keep.

So you tell me how it's stupid to resent people without hard drives.

Exactly. I'm not holding my breath anticipating the fix coming soon, or

Exactly.  As much as I love their games, Bioware has a TERRIBLE track record at fixing things in a timely manner.

The character makes an identical move each time you press A. Mostly he\\she just pokes at the enemy with a sword. that is hardly "press a button and something awsomme happens".

Serious? One of the biggest draws and income with DA2 is the ability to import from DAO. So the importing and early game choices are broken, not happening. Oh joy.

Oh boy, aren't you glad we were getting more launch day DLC instead of BASIC FUNCTIONALITY out of the pre-launch run-up?

Get your **** straight before ME3, Bioware.

You can't be serious. You just made completely baseless assertions as if they were fact. This is Bioware's screw up. People need to stop blaming EA for everything. If this was a distribution problem it would be alright to blame EA, but this is a development problem which is absolutely Bioware's fault.

I know, I'm reallu upset about this. I made a "perfect" playthorugh of  DAO, Awakening, GOA and WH jus tbecause I was so excited about my decisions carrying over. Someone on the forums who already has the game says he has the bug in his xbox, so i guess its not just PC but a bug for all platforms or at least the xbox and PC. Even if the decisions in DAO don;t flag properly I can sort of  see, but if decisions in DA2 aren't going to flag properly then . talk about breaking immersion......

Well i personally dont think its a big deal, i will just have to hold off letting my friend borrow the game until they do release the patch. But since they did say they have the program file, i think all we have to wait for is the testing phrase.

Oh and whats with this Origins choices not all working right when brought into DA2

@ DarthSilver Apparently, sometimes the game does not reflect decisions made in DAO correctly and also some decisions made in the beginning of DA2 according to the DA2 readme file.
Hopefully, it's nothing too gamebreaking, but the fact that it states that DA2 decisions do not flag correctly really worries me.

"hopefully a patch soon"

you know they said that about sentinel armour bug in Awakening. Not that it was a huge bug, it was only aesthetic, but still. If there will be a patch, the reality is it wont be soon. Its already not a day one patch.

Huge immersion failure. I made several complete playthroughs. Mainly because I am a Gaider fan and writing fan. I wanted to see how different outcomes were handled when imported into DA2. Hm, things come in 3's, so far we have the no AA announcement hrs before launch and now the import/DA2 choice flags. That is two, wonder what 3 will be.

Screwing up auto-attack AND save transfer from Origins is completely unacceptable.

It feels like their priorities were elsewhere (all these silly Facebook challenges and DLC) instead of sorting out the basics.

And why couldn't BioWare answer the question when it was asked on these forums? EA's fault? Why didn't they clearly state on these forums: "Yes, auto-attack is in the game" if they were thinking it's in the build sent for manufacturing? Why didn't they clearly say: "No, there's no auto-attack in the game" if they knew the file was omitted? Did they learn about it yesterday?

There was no PR screw-up here, they did exactly what they wanted - didn't say anything and kept people in the dark until most pre-orders were sent out and it was too late to cancel.

I bet now they'll be talking about the patch coming soon until people stop complaining and get used to button mashing.
