So the identical file got left off both the PS3 and xbox360 master disks? Bit of a coincidence that the exact same file disappeared on both platforms, what's the odds on that?

Smell a rat? So, what other files accidentally disappeared from the master disk? Will we get 40 hours in and find the endgame boss has fallen off as well?

They probably never intended the auto-attack to be in the console versions. They strongly believe that in oder to improve sales in todays market enviroment they have to make it more button mashy (as superflous as it may be). Just like the promise of given us germans an english language pack at day one for Mass Effect 2 ( which of course never happened) the rumor that the auto attack would be in there was just to appease the forums. They know perfectly well that the majority of customers who never visit forums won't care at all. That's EA-policy right there and now it's Bioware's too. it's a ****ing shame: making money with the ignorance of the mass market consumer while lying to the hardcore fans to shut them up. Pathetic, really. But then again it's a business.

Oh I don't know... owning up a couple of hours before the game goes on general sale in the US rather than a week before ?

Apparently, they had no idea this was even an issue until now, so it took them nearly a month just to find the issue. Now they have to not only fix the issue, but also come up with a plan to distribute it to console players via a network they do not control (Live, PSN) that has its own restrictions.
So I'm guessing they'll go with the standard EA approach: Say they're "working on it" for a couple of weeks hoping people will forget about it eventually.

We probably wont see it until they decide to release some DLC, at which point they'll want to spark some extra interest in the game for the people that haven't played the game in a while. "Hey, buy our new add on! It totally has that feature we said would be in the original game (but wasn't) and we said we would patch (but didn't) and you probably forgot about by now! But its here now, so why not buy this and try playing the game in a whole new way (the way we said you'd get the first time around)!"

Somehow I doubt them having owned up to it a week before release would have encouraged you to complain about it any less than you're doing now. Let's be honest.

You're in almost every thread in this forum complaining about this game, and you've been doing so for days... weeks. So really, the truth is, there's absolutely nothing Bioware could have done right for you.

Like Bioware saying that the "pre-release" version was not the same as the retail and that's why no one could find an auto attack button?

Or competely sidestepping the question during the demo play on saturday ?

Why reviewers have mentioned an auto attack feature despite it not being there?

I've seen less rational conspiracy theories.

The best part is, you know bioware told the reviewers "yeh, we know there is no auto-attack, but don't worry it's in the final version" and then the product reviewers just propogate this information for them. In the end it comes out in the open that it is a blatant ****ing lie.

OK: Here is the story.

Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.

Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.

We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.

This is very disappointing. But I have faith that Bioware will take care of the problem soon enough. In the meantime I will just have to mash buttons... ugh.

If past patches are anything to go by, Bioware take forever to get them released. That's the problem. And it's not the first time they've fluffed a release. PS3 Mass Effect 2 had issues that took 5 weeks to patch, that was only mid January.....I would have thought they'd learnt from that, but no.

Possibly, I get the impression they probably did but my naivete is blinding me a little. I think mainly its due to the fact that this game has been rushed and they've been really eager to get it released as soon as possible. They should've just spent more time on it to try and perfect it a little.

I look at it this way. Either they didn't know and they're quite inept, or they did know and they been purposely lying to customers and press all this time.

Now, having worked in marketing for a number of years I've experienced (and sometimes even perpetrated) corporate misinformation on several levels. As such, I'm perfectly willing to believe they would misslead everyone in order to serve their own ends. However, I can not prove any such thing and claiming it would just make me loose credibility.

It's like in the old days when people got married and had a kid 4 months later and went "Whoops, we didn't even know I was pregnant! We totally didn't get married just so our child wouldn't be a bastard and have us get ostracized by the community!". Claiming otherwise just made you look lesser, because in the end you couldn't proove that they had.

Same here, I can't argue against it because all I can offer is speculation. In high level marketing you're often told to only accknowledge a problem if you have to (the game is out so it's quite hard to deny it) and after that you keep quiet untill the next piece of news you can give is "it's fixed".

wise words!!!!
I never understood companies like this... someone big as a EA should be concern about making loyal customers. I would gladly buy every single DLC, limited editions and all other things if all i knew the i wouldn't have simple problems like this and EA wouldn't lie about resolve them soon. And probaly there's a LOT others feel this way too.

They covered up that mistake until most pre-orders had shipped. They covered up the mistake and lied about it, repeatedly. That's the f***ing problem.

which is stupid when yours customers has some brain. sometimes what you gain by acting this way doesn't cover what you loss. sometimes is better admiting your errors or other solution...  like don't release without some plan for a easy fix and a fast schedule. Or better what blizzard usually do : take your time, your clients won't disappear in the air and will be even more happy( read : willing to buy more things) with the game release smoothly.

Lesson learned, Bioware. DLC isn't worth what's lacking (but promised), so no more pre-orders from me - I won't get what I payed for.

In the future on Bioware games, I'll wait 6 mos to a year, so I can save money by buying a used copy and use the $$ I have saved to buy what DLC was included pre-order and is still available. That way I'll also have verifiable information about what I'm getting (or if I want to give it a pass).

I'm sure it won't matter to EA or Bioware, and that EA/Bioware won't miss my measly revenue, but my pocketbook will benefit and I'll have some guarantee of getting what I pay for.

Lame, BioWare, just lame. Hopefully you view us as more than a paycheck and will actually get this resolved in a timely manner, instead of just focusing on more DLC to make money.

This is a key way to alienate fans, and if you keep it up, people will continue to write you off for good down the line.

They should just make something tiny that makes X repeat when held down rather than having to press it constantly. That at least takes the pressure off your thumb.
