From what I've been reading there is NO auto-attack option in Console DA2?

Bioware probably should have been honest with people about this from the get go.

Guys, it's working as intended.

No, it's not.

Yes, it is. At least, considering they probably never really intended on implementing it into the game.

Oh well, looks like I'm going back to ME2. Gotta finish my adept's side quests. :wizard:

As far as I've read about the subject, they kind of messed up when they went gold and left it out but there are statements from the devs admiting their mistake.

I would appreciate if you could provide a link where they say otherwise =].

They don't say otherwise anywhere, but the conflicting reports, plus the fact that they're "looking into the issue" when Chris says that the file just needs to be implemented both indicate that they're tip-toeing around the subject until we forget.

Some Quotes:

...lead designer Mike Laidlaw told Eurogamer.  His team is "aggressively patching" these and hopes to offer fixes "as soon as humanly possible".

"The other biggie," he added, "and this is one that frankly is a bit of a
'mare' - is the consoles have... Unfortunately it's invisible right now
but there is an option for auto-attack to be turned on on the consoles
so it plays in the way that Origins did where you'd pick your target and
your character would continue to attack.

"Due to a bug, that option is not being rendered, which means it's
unpickable and invisible in the option screen, so that is another thing
that we will be aggressively patching."
"The patches," he went on, "I can't really speak to time-frame because
obviously they need to go through the quality assurance of Sony and
Microsoft to make sure that they're up to their standards and so on. So
that creates a little bit more delay then we'd hoped for."

..................

There appears to be an error in the article where he is quoted as saying you can select auto attack from the radial menu, which I certainly haven't found,  but it seems pretty clear that they are working hard to get this patch out.  Not sure they appreciate some of the fan hate which is clearly out there around this and some other issues.

I understand people are skeptical obviously, but I'm willing to be patient, for now.

Personally I find the sword & shield bug and the re-spec bug to be just as irritating.

I have both the PC and 360 versions of this game. Funny thing is that I've been playing the PC one a lot lately. So powered up the 360 just to see about presets and how family looks. I hit the button once and then was getting beat down thinking it was bugged. I decided to go back to the PC version that has auto-attack and mods. Even a mod that makes Aveline look decent. I actually thought "What happened to Aveline?" when I first saw her on the 360 again.

How is that clear? They haven't said anything about it in a week. And they've given 2 different stories about what the problem is. It seems pretty clear to me that something is rotten in Denver.

Not sure they appreciate some of the fan hate which is clearly out there around this and some other issues.

Not sure I care. They said the feature was in the game. They lied. There's no way they didn't know that it either wasn't in the game or wasn't rendering right until the game was released.

I understand people are skeptical obviously, but I'm willing to be patient, for now.

But for how long? Another 10 days? A month?

I was hoping to see an announcement about a date for the Auto-Attack option or some kind of official word on it, but once again I'm disappointed. Bioware sure did make a big deal about Mass Effect 2: Arrival though. Plenty of announcements on that today. *throws hands up in the air in disgust*

If you pay money you are entitled to have expectations.  Personally, I'm willing to give them a few more weeks before getting angrier about it all.

It seems to simply be an honest mistake. A really bad one, no doubt, but there it is. It was clearly a problem in the Demo, I played the Demo on both the PC and the 360. They knew about it, they said they thought they had it fixed, but apparently the fix ended up being 'invisible'. Thats a rough break, but again, these things happen. I was disappointed, as a PC player, that the main PC problem I noticed in the Demo wasnt fixed either. When you play the 360 version of the Demo you do have to hit the A button a million times, which obviously can be annoying, but on the upside you can adjust the brightness, so that you can actually see the game as it was meant to be seen, nice and bright and beautiful. On the PC you have auto-attack, but everything is super-dark, its quite annoying (you might say the difference is like night and day, haha). I was quite unpleasantly surprised that when the actual game arrived it had the same problem as the Demo. The good news for PC players is you can go into one of the files and manually change the Gamma number from 1 to 2, then you can turn it up from 1 to 2 in-game and that solves the problem, you can see everything nice and bright like on the 360. Sadly if you're playing on the 360, you can't do something like that for the auto-attack problem, you just have to wait for a patch. I'm sure they're doing their best, and they'll get it out as soon as possible, I definitely trust them on this, clearly the consoles are where the vast majority of their sales are coming from, they're going to do everything in their power to get this right, and quickly.

I do. I think they lied about the feature ever being in the console version to avoid losing sales and are just waiting until people forget about the problem.

Not sure I care.

Let me be clear. I care that they either lied about a feature being in the game or are too lazy to make sure their games function properly. What I don't care about is their feelings on the matter. They screwed up.

As soon as it can be packaged with sub-par DLC for $10.

Dear god, I seriously hope we don't have to wait till the next DLC for an auto-attack patch.

I understand where you're coming from, but realistically speaking, its only button mashing if you aren't stopping to issue orders, use your abilities or move your companions. And even though I laughed at the animated "A-A-A-A-A" gif of the trailer from DA2, if they had made the same joke about the Origins trailer, it would have just been "A" at the beginning, followed by 3 minutes of watching the fight.

Some middle ground must be reached, I feel. =P

Granted though, I wish I could (on weaker fights) just hit R2+X or something and have him auto-attack.

Bioware is quite slow with producing patches for the consoles. I'm sure it's a really difficult process so whatever. The real issue is that Bioware employees seemed to mislead people about this issue. There were several people asking about auto attack in a chat 2 days prior to the release and Bioware just avoided the question.

Whatever their excuse is, it is just an excuse and I doubt the authenticity of their claims. Nothing they have done up to this point -regarding this issue- suggests that they had any intention of being hionest with the customers.

Auto attack on the consoles was/is a significant issue with conversations in several forums. Bioware knew console users were curious about this issue long before the game released. The idea that the game goes to its final stage where it is being prepared for release without people from Bioware being aware that the feature was not working -as they stated it would be- is ludicrous.

The game is mastered and the master is tested before they print off hundreds of thousands of copies of the game.

I play on Nightmare, perhaps you misunderstood my post? =P

By "middle ground", I mean between people who enjoy this game with friendly fire and tactics, like myself, and people who simply dismiss it as some button masher.  I was using the two trailers as example (*). In Origins, you really kinda just watched, whereas with DA2, they may have made it a bit more... clicky, but at least you're in control.

Sorry if I wasn't clear =)

------
(*) - I figure this part needs more explaination. I was using the joke about the DA2 trailer as an example, actually. Then applying the same logic used there to the original DAO trailer. Oy vay, this is getting off-track.

Ummm it is a blatant lie. They said it was IN GAME, they locked dozens of threads in the forums asking about it saying it was IN GAME. They said it wasnt in the demo's and videos because the "pirated versions" did not contain it. And then 12 hrs before release they "forgot to include it on the master", but as you have just quoted now they are claiming its a bug.

So since their statements are mutually exclusive we can be 100% certain we have been told a lie.

You absolutely have valid points.

My exact statement was referring specifically to a comment by the lead designer of the game that they were aggressively patching this issue and that they would have the patch out as soon as they could (and it passes certification).  With all due respect, you have absolutely no idea if that is a lie or not.

Still, there have obviously been lies/misrepresentations, or at least some very sloppy behaviour on behalf of Bioware, so I can totally understand that you and others are angry and asking for proof and/or the release of the patch.

I feel pretty much the same way - I'm just trying to avoid getting more angry for a little bit longer!  I also abandoned my d/w rogue and fighter characters until the patch arrives - if it ever comes.
