Why would something like this be added that late to the development? They can't possibly have thought mandatory button spamming was as "awesome" as their so-called marketing tries to imply.

I'm not so conspiracy theorist as to believe all that. However, I am willing to believe that they innitialy did not intend to have it on the console version. But then saw how many players actually wanted it on the console version and tried to include it. And then this problem hapened, and so on and so forth.TJPags wrote...

Can't have something awesome without pressing a button.
Auto attack eliminates button pushing.

Chris,
Given MS's policies on Title Updates and DLC, it occurred to me that Xbox 360 owners may be in real trouble here.
Will this file fit within the maximum permitted file size for a Title Update on Xbox Live?
If not, can BW release it as free DLC?

Actually, I think BioWare's behavior in this matter is inexcusable.
I defend BioWare's design decisions because I agree with them or am willing to play the game prior to passing judgement. I'm a strong believer that the best time to give criticism is right after the game has come out, for a host of reasons I'll not derail the thread with.
That does not mean I support BioWare misinforming their customers as to what's in the game. 'Dragon Age is tactical' is a subjective decision that a player can come to on their own. 'Dragon Age has auto-attack on consoles' is objectively true or false.
But yes, if they had told us about the error when they first became aware of it, I would be defending them now.

Someone really needs to follow up on this as ask them how long they've known this issue exists.. I would LOVE to hear the answer to that.
It does matter.. I'm calling into question their business practices and integrity.. It's not even about pressing A repeatedly and never was for me.. It was about Bioware knowing about an issue and hiding the information from the public in an effort to not negatively effect sales.
They just had a fracking web-chat saturday where the question was asked during the chat, but completely side stepped and passed by during the answer portion.... come on now...

why would they think that no auto attack was a better option, I'm sure they have game testers. I'm sure most of them have thumb injuries from the constant button pressing to attack.
My thumb just hurts from the thought of that Ogre fight in the demo...

I suspect it would be pretty easy for them to release it as a patch for PC, but for all we know they have to obey some policy about issuing patches for all the platforms at the same time.

Not to mention the fact they were locking multiple threads by saying that auto-attack will be in the retail game a few days ago when streams started popping up everywhere showing the lack of auto-attack in console version. I know because I made one too...

OK: Here is the story.
Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.
Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.
We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.

This should have been mentioned earlier. They have been sidestepping it every time it comes up for a while. Withholding info is almost as bad as lying

It's possible EA has some arrangement like that with MS, but I doubt it. I have seen patches arrive for the two different consoles at different times.
On the 360 all patches (called "Title Updates") cannot exceed a set limit and must go through certification with Microsoft. I am worried about the size limits. Certification can take weeks, though with blockbusters & critical issues I have heard of TUs moving through certification quickly. On the PS3 there is no limit to the patch size and I am not sure how certification works.
