I hit level 8 and got cleave. The ability is absolutely amazing. Its so fun to use in combination with other abilities that I have slightly reorganized talents 5-10 so that cleave/claymore are prioritized at the earliest level they are available. I am still saving money to buy the elixer of physical technique, but I plan to have enough by this level. Nothing in Act 1 is even challenging my party right now on nightmare/no pause although i died once to a qunari electrical mage (after which I focus fired him down). The game is awesome so far.
Hey Sabres,
Great guide man. I picked up this game a few days ago and am almost at the end of Act I. Although I'm quiet concerned that I will be lacking the 50k Deep Roads funds. I have ~35k now and all I bought were the items you recommended in Act I, including the 2 tomes which were quite pricey. I've finished all side/rumor/secondary/companion/main quests, with the exception of 1 more letter that just became available in Gamlin's house. Am I up poop creek?

Nope... that letter is probably the quest to talk to the guy that'll loan you the 50 sovereigns so you can go to the deep roads. You must have bought something else though or didn't pick everything up and sell them. You should have over 100 sovereigns.

Nice guide, it's a great template to plan a build around, and I especially appreciate all the contributions the OP and other posters have made on good tactic scripting strategies. One question on Reavers what stats exactly govern the damage Devour does? Is it based on strength, weapon DPS or even *gasp* magic? I'd be quite depressed if it was the latter. I'm asking because the listed damage Devour deals on my talent tree is currently 27 at level 7, compared to 84+ from the Two Handed Weapon strikes. I'm curious to know how the skill scales, especially considering how many hit points lieutenants, and hell even normal mobs get towards the end of the game. (I'm looking at you act 3 rage demons!)
It seems like it must be based off weapon damage and strength, just like any other ability, because if I use an elemental weapon like Bloom the damage changes to that element. The damage it deals isn't especially remarkable, but I usually see damage/healing from 90 - 600 depending on what buffs I have running. I can normally expect it to do ~150, despite the tooltip saying 43 damage or whatever it is.

There is a way to fix this bug (somewhat) by using a save game editor. If you do this, save backups. It worked for my rogue and I didn't seem to have corruption or anything, but safe is better than sorry.
First, download this: http://social.biowar...m/project/1936/
Run daosavegame.exe and open your most recent save. Make SURE this is a save without Isabela or Sabastian in your party or you'll just get the bug again. You'll also get it again whenever you add them, so you'll have to go back and fix your save again if you do.
Once you open your save, find your char in the party and a list of IDs will come up. In DA2, attack speed's ID is 42, so find this value. If you have the bug, it's likely some negative number. Change it to 0 (if your Hawke doesn't have the Friendly buff in the save) or 5 (if they do). You can also find the damage resist value in the list (but I forget the ID number off the top of my head).
Save the file, reload it in game. It should have fixed your problem. I'd suggest periodically checking to make sure it doesn't come back though, at least until an official fix comes.

A couple more things:
-The Brother's End is a fine and free weapon for most of the Act 2. You can find it near the beginning, in the fight with the elven fanatic in the alley. At the end of that act, while fighting the qunari at hightown, you can find an axe that improves it a bit (Two Bladed Axe or something like that, don't know the exact name in the English version).
-In my experience, when controlled by the AI, Anders doesn't need to activate Panacea to cast the related spells. It's an exploit, though, so maybe you can set his tactics to activate Panacea only when needed. I don't find it useful otherwise. If you don't mind the exploit, simply don't put Panacea in your tactics.
- I haven't tested Berserker, how dangerous is to mix its abilities with Sacrificial Frenzy? It seems like one would be at low health most of the time. Other than Aura of Pain, I find every other of Reaver's abilities useful. I wish Fervor had Devour and not AoP as a requisite, that would save a talent point. Templar is a safe bet for your second specialization IMO, if you're not sure about what to take.
Did someone try to make a sword&shield warrior with this approach? I might try one in the future, but tanking sounds kinda boring. Maybe an offensive one can be done, applying some of the principles of this build.

I should have over 100 sovereigns by end of Act I? Good lord. I'm not sure how that's possible. Like I mentioned, I didn't buy anything extra aside from the items listed in Act I buying guide of Sabres. No potions, injury kits, trinkets, gear purchases at all. Just lived off of mob drops. I've gone back to all the locations in day and night time to see if I missed any potential quests. I always selected the nice guy option [blue] if / when available in conversations if that helps to know. Granted I didn't ask for money in any of the quests, but figured they'd give me enough for completing the said quest. Hmm....I think I've built up a small stock of daggers, bows, staffs etc in my storage chest that my 2handed warrior can't use, but was hoping to use them for a different playthrough. Perhaps sell all that stuff and see how much I get? I'd prefer not to borrow cash to enter Act 2, but might have to.

You'll get the epedition money loaned by another dwarf at the end of your questlines in Kirkwall act 1. So forget about the 50 gold, buy what you need... big evil boss incoming in the deep roads, probably the most difficult boss (except maybe Hybris) of the game
I see then money goes for the elixir cause I allready got the tome. thanks for advice then

About the slow-mo bug: I had a friendly Isabela in my party in my first playthrough, but I didn't notice a slower attack speed. If it existed, it must had been minimal.
Thanks for the Arishok video, it was one of the hardest fights for me.

Yeah, I ended up being exactly 3 gold short of funding myself (for which you get an achievement for), so the loan quest kicked in and you definitely get to keep your gold afterward. For this reason, there's absolutely no point in sponsoring the expedition yourself and actually pretty stupid if you do IMO. Dougal WILL come for an extra slice of the pie afterward, even though you've already paid him back. I sent the greedy punk packing and he greets you the next time you visit your house. At this point, you get to kill him and get even more loot.swk3000 wrote...
If you want to fund the expedition yourself, you can do so by keeping the 50 Gold on hand. However, if you take Dougal's loan, he'll show up at the start of Act 2 to try to get his money back. It's apparently possible to send him packing without paying him, however, at which point you will get an encounter with him later in which he tries to kill you. So the most profitable thing to do would be to take Dougal's loan, then refuse to pay him back. You get the extra 50 Gold spending money, access to the Deep Roads, and you get some more experience.
Note that I've not gone this route myself, but I'm probably going to be restarting soon, and will give it a test then.
So word to the wise, make sure you're a few gold short before the end of act I and you'll reap the spoils.

I started act 2 with 80 gold I believe (did not take the loan). Do you start act 2 with that much gold if you do take the loan? It also isn't like me to borrow money and not pay it back, and this is an rpg after all.

Regarding the bug where you have stacking decreased attack speed and damage resistance, this is caused by Isabela and Sebastian's Friendship buffs not correctly adding/removing. You can avoid it by not having them in your party at Friendship level, but if you already have the bug you need to do something else.

My damage resistance was at -10%!!!
I just used the savegame editor to set it back to 0% before equipment. What a ****ty bug, Ive been fighting at a disadvantage for all of Act 2.

I paid 50g for the expedition by buying all the stuff I mentioned in act 1, and then selling almost all of my jewelry and basically anything my compaions werent using (and some things they were). Mind you, i bought like 3 or 4 extra makers sigh potions, so everything is doable.

The money goes from the quest giver straight to the expedition leader, you don't get to carry it around.
Between act 1 and 2, you learn that you've paid back all your debts, including the 50g you loaned. The dwarf returns in act 2 blackmailing you for a bigger piece of the pie because you got rich and he only got 100g back.
As a sidepoint: Got 2 videos for everyone. Both are as 2h vanguard roughly following your specs (wouldn't be posting them here if that weren't so), with commentary.
