At the final boss, it was pretty rediculous how I could not fight the endboss without killing all of the non-controllable companions who came to help me. I ended up slaughtering everyone who was there to help me since there is no way I could move them out of the way, and that was immersion breaking. The friendly fire in this game is not implemented very well.
For my second playthrough Im definitely considering using a mod to turn off friendly fire on nightmare, which would allow me to use the melee teamates I never used in my first playthrough (Isabella, Aveline, and Fenris). The only problem is that I think the game will be way too easy, I wish there was an ultra nightmare mod that made the game harder then nightmare. I may have to purposely gimp my team by running with no healer at all to achieve a decent difficulty level.
No friendly fire means you could take the Vanguard build you made, toss in an extra cleave machine in Fenris, and beef up Isabela to be a mage killer. And on top of it all, still use Varric as a ranged rape machine.
You'd need an extra difficulty level just to balance out how fast things would die.
And as for playing another class, play a Mage. I'm curious to see what trees you focus on and what teammates you use.

Torn between a S&S or a Mage for next playthrough.

So when do you think you'll be starting that S&S character Sabre? Sounds like something fun to do on Nightmare.

I loaded a save of mine when the qun attack the city, and used a makers sigh to respec into sword and shield. What I found was that it was not nearly as fun as 2h so Im not going to play it. Berserker Vanguard with no 2h active abilities was pretty fun, you just activate cleave, barrage, and assail and go to town with auto attacks. Fervor + barrage + lyrium rune + haste stacking is nuts. its like 170% attack speed. Its a really cool build, but I still prefer using active abilities over auto attacks.
What I am gonna do for my next playthrough is either play a different class, or run through nightmare with my vanguard build again but this time with a mod that removes friendly fire so that I can bring along melee companions like isabella, fenris, and aveline. To make the runthrough more challenging I will probably play without a healer, and no mage at all. Just a 4 melee wrecking crew with maybe varric or sebastian used occasionally.

I updated the attribute section of the guide. Looking for feedback, as I am sure I missed a few locations where you can get bonus attribute points.
Siding with the Sloth Demon during the "Night Terrors" quest will either grant you 6 atribute points, 1 ability point or a bunch of runes.

Hey Sabre I was wondering if you could please tell me where the blade of mercy, valiance rune, and the hidden tomes for forbidden knowledge are located. Thanks for the great guide so far.
I dont remember to be honest. Valiance rune is in sundermount, as are many good items. Id do sundermount first thing in act 3.

Well I played a little bit of sword and shield, and its not nearly as fun as 2 hander. Gonna try a different class for my second playthrough.
It would be awesome if there was a mod that removed friendly fire on nightmare. Friendly fire is more of an annoyance then anything else, and is way over the top. I mean one shot and you kill your teamates, thats a bit too much. I would prefer a difficulty significantly harder then nightmare with no friendly fire.
Sabre,
will you post a new guide with your new build?

How did you avoid getting knocked back on every hit you received? At level 18 my warrior has 46 strength and is still getting swatted away by every larger enemy. This makes the actual act of damage near impossible.
Second, since this is my first warrior I find myself dying for stamina in longer fights. I toss in the burst. Then I'm usually left with little else. I can spam bolster but at that point I begin to get interrupted by larger enemies who don't die to the initial burst.
Thanks in advance.

You find the actual "gift" in a chest during the "Best Served Cold" quest and then just talk to Fenris. I'm not sure what you mean by the Forbidden Knowldge line either, unless you're simply wanting to do the quest just to finish it up, or if it drops a weapon that's dependant on your class. For me it dropped an awesome staff on my Mage.
The locations are: The Chantry, Viscount's Keep, an entrance called "Cave" that's in the Bone Pit area, "Dank Cave" which is on the Wounded Coast and then in the newly opened area past the camp in Sundermount.

About 2-handers: How do Limbtaker's property "25% Chance of deathblows" exactly work? It means that 25% of enemies can be insta-killed? That would make it the best weapon by far, so I guess it means something different.

How about one-handed weapons and shields, for that kind of warriors? Can someone who has played one post some good ones?

A good one-handed blade is Glandivalis which is from The Aweirgan Scrolls final quest, looks like Vigilance from Awakening. There's also the Blade of a Thousand Battles from the Black Emporium DLC if you have the coin for it. Both are found in Act 3. Other options in Act 3 are Aurvar's Prize from Finding Nathaniel and The Vague Blade from The Last Holdouts quests.
As for shields, Mage's Friend offers the most armor, has 3 rune slots, and 17% magic resistance and is found during the Faith quest in Act 3 if you have the Exiled Prince DLC. You can find the Shield of the Resolute very late in the game during the final quest line in one the side rooms. A good shield to use before those is the Shield of the Knight Herself which is found during the quest Offered and Lost in Act 2.
