I'm still in act 1, and progressing slowly (lvl 8 right now), but finding in every single fight at least 1 if not all my party die.
Varric seems terrible at transferring agro, with the long CDs and only 2 heals I don't understand the hype of Anders healing and my party members seem to run into the midst of melee (despite me ordering them out a second before).
I haven't got Claymore or Regroup yet, will being able to res fallen allies and snare enemies change everything?
I'm not using the DLC items (just areas), does this build need that advantage whilst it's still collecting it's talent points?
I feel as if something must be wrong, but I'm playing the character pretty well (watched lots of the vids to check), and followed the tactic and talent builds accurately. What have I missed?

A significant component of this build is the scripting for the Companions. That made everything else so much easier!
Again, thanks.

I`m sure its not "needed" for a 2 hander to work out, but the main reason he is mopping the floor with guys from lvl 4 and beyond is quite likely to be the DLC at work.

At the start of act 1, maybe; but that is only because this build takes a few levels to gather the really important, defining talents. Until you get cleave / claymore + a way to reliably exploit stagger + some cc abilities on your mage, the game is decently rough going (at least on nightmare). This is a problem inherent in all classes though, I know I had a heck of a time making it through the prologue on my rogue archer. DLC armor and such makes it easier for sure, but I would argue it just reduces the annoying factor that early game can be.Darqion wrote...
The difference between using and not using the DLC for this kind of warrior is immense. With the DLC armor and sword you`ll barely be taking damage and your output is over the top.

What does it mean when the OP says to replace the skill with Maker's Sigh? Level unlock skills aren't removed when it's used?
You and your allies begin the game with 1 ability (or more for later companions). Pommel Strike in our case.
Quik note for new players: Without the DLC items or lots of potions, level 1-9 will be a little painful. I'm a bit of a purist and refused to use any DLC items first run through, lots of frustration but it pays off!
Also, buying the Elixer of Physical Technique AND paying for the deep roads expedition (without loaning money) is only possible if you choose the greedy option almost everytime. I made choices based on Roleplay reasons and didn't get it till act 2, and was fine.

you MUST hold your party in their position so that they don't move accidentally, and move them manually in case you need to change position. I've noticed that sometimes when you put your party on hold during combat they won't attack unless you make them, so make sure you select your whole party to attack or use the tactic so that all of them attack the target of hawke. As for Varric, is VERY important you get goad so that every enemy is attacking hawke. And the healing part from Anders is not so much as a healer but a support, and barrier is perfect for saving you when under heavy attack. In my case, i modified the build of the party members a bit to maximize hawke survival, after the first half of act 1 i didn't have to use one health potion, only in the fight against the rock wraith and against the high dragon in act 3. Make sure you abuse every instance of CCC and even kiting won't be necesary.

The AoE of Goad/Armistice is limited. You the player play the biggest role in aggro management. If you see an enemy going for a companion, chase it and slash it a couple of times so it turns its attention to you. Every time you deal damage, your threat level rises from the point of view of the enemies, so make sure you help out your companions. Conversely, once your mage gets the upgraded Chain of Lightning which is a finisher for the stagger ccc, move on to the next enemy and let your mage help you by finishing it off.

I'm currently at the Aroshok dual at end of chapter 2. I want to respect some of my talents but not quite sure hoe to go about doing that. I guess I'll need to redo my tactics also. I could sure usesome advice here on how to go about doing this. Simply because the Aroshok is wipring up the floor w/ me lol.
Hey guys I'm still looking for a way to be able to respec the players abilities in game. I don't like some of the original choices that I made and would like to be able to change them. Anyone know how to do this? possibly there is a post somewhere else that I could be refered to?
thanks

If you don't have The Black Emporium DLC installed, there's no way besides editing your savegames.

And not spending anything on potions plus being a completionist saved me enough money to purchase all +all atributes jewlery/belt I wanted early in game. And all the tomes obviously. I got addicted to attack speed and to this game. (although it's weird how fast can Hawke wield his 2 hander but for an old Diablo 2 HC player, it just reminded me of my level 99 Whirwind Barbarian mixed with my lvl 90 Frenzy Barbarian of old times!)

Would this build work for a sword and shield warrior or just with the two handed?
