I got Annulment and it seems to cut allied effects in half as well, at least haste was only lasting half as long as it should've. I respec'ed and it was back to normal, so I'm sticking to berserk for my second specialization.

So, checked out the updated stuff and noticed Anders had points to spare at the end. If you're looking for defensive stuff (since offensive spells don't go well with Panacea), you might consider Arcane Shield and it's upgrades. Party-wide +20% defense, +20% resists is pretty nice for certain situations I'd imagine and the extra points in Arcane would allow you to upgrade Barrier with Arcane Fortress as well.

Might consider putting points here first instead of Glyph of Repulsion, unless you plan on using the glyph a lot.

Arcane Shield is not as effective as you'd think. I don't know how the math should be or whether it's not working as it should but the bonuses are:
- +15 all magic classes resistance and +15 to defense ratings to the buffer mage
- +5 all magic classes resistance and +5 to defense ratings to the other party members

Seem like three wasted points to me.

Hmm, those buffs definitely aren't what I'd have expected from the tooltip descriptions. I guess either it's bugged or the tooltips needs some serious clarification.

@xnoxiousx: Early on, Control is the better sustain. Towards the end, when your character begins to approach 100% attack rating, Might takes the lead. Not using either myself, but I'd wager somewhere halfway/end of Act 2 would be when Might starts to shine.

@Arcane Shield: It should be 20% (as detailed) for the mage, but dev posts have said it's 5% for allies and that part is working as intended it seems. It's not a needed or high priority spell, but it's not a terrible late game pick if you're stacking defense either (magic resistance is a bonus either way). My Merril grabbed it before dinging 20 cause I already got everything I wanted her to have, and my Hawke is a defense based warrior. It would've been much later if at all though if I wasn't going with defense.

First off, thanks for the guide. I am using it for my first playthrough. secondly, blindside for Varric is a lvl 5 instead of lvl 3 so another makers potions might be in order.

I loved vanguard on insanity in mass effect 2, and I can't wait to try this
I beat the game with a nuker mage on normal, and I am current trying a DW rogue on hard.
I'm gonna copy your tactics for anders and aveline, they are a great improvement over
my first playthrough tactics.

Also, can anyone tell me the gear being used in Sabre's Varterral fight vid?

My only question for the OP is: How did you setup the binding to target all 3 party members besides Hawke at once?

Might, hands down. Control adds 10% attack, which only helps for autoattacks. Might adds 10% damage, which helps everything.

My natural guess is to "select all" as in LB+RB on 360, then direct everyone to attack one guy (I do this via opening the tactical pause, choosing the target with A).

On the PC, 'select all' is ctrl+A by default. You can change it in the key bindings menu.
