Do people often use this? I recently made a soldier with the Claymore and to be honest I love it. I used to get the Widow but I have much more fun with this weapon, it dishes out the pain very nicely with AR.

I want to hear some more opinions of the Claymore.

I'm on 360 and still butter fingers with the reload trick, but my Claymore Soldier run was awesome.

I alternated between the Avenger (and then used GPR when I got it) and Mantis when I was not using the Claymore.

I barely touched my Pistol and I did not rely on my Heavy Weapons so I lugged around the Grenade Launcher the most, with the Cain for the dead Reaper Core.

I used Heightened AR, Inferno, Squad Cryo and Shock Trooper as my base build that I favored.

I went back and forth with Commando and Shock Trooper. The ~7% damage difference was negligible and I was preferring the extra health from Shock Trooper.

The rest of my points I experimented with, usually going with Squad or Heavy Disruptor and I did not like using any level Concussive Shot.

Not much else is needed to make the Claymore Soldier successful, but next time I might try using Reave and/or not investing in Squad Cryo.

All in all it was fun getting close with the Claymore
And I'll be trying it again.

Claymore-wielding soldier? How do you manage, having to manually run to your foes just to shoot that thing off?

Generally, I would storm towards an enemy, activate AR, fire point blank and then maneuver back to cover, rinse and repeat. The key was using cover and squad powers for CC and not charging into areas where enemies are tightly bunched. I had to be patient, but aggressive.

When cover is plentiful enough and AR is activated after you have your sights on an enemy, the time dilation of the power gave me enough time to pull off the tactic most of the time and survive. I died the most when I fumbled with my thumbs between the controller pulling to the left, and switching between melee, storming, reloading and getting behind cover. My head was spinning with my silly mistakes. =]

I play on Insanity, so I was always losing my shields, but it was a refreshing change of pace.

Edit: I haven't figured out why but my left thumb stick pulls to the left and it's very annoying.

Yeah, you're basically using the Soldier's increased stormspeed plus ARush like the Vanguard's Charge. It's great using the best sounding, most bad ass gun in ME2 in slowmo.

Here's a vid by Tony Gunslinger: Claymore Soldier (360)

The only issue with Claymore and Soldier is, you don't really need it. Soldiers (in ARush) can one-shot (normal) enemies easily with the other shotguns (Katana, Evi and GPS) so the Claymore only has an edge against elites and bosses. It does have style and that counts for something too, me thinks.

I actually made myself use heavy weapons on this particular playthrough. I thought as a soldier I should make full use of my entire array of weaponry, the grenade launcher was actually really nice for CC if I became overwhelmed by mooks.

I used the pistol quite a bit for enemies with armor, pop off a few Carnifex/Phalanx shots then deontate them with biotic teammates.

I get the most enjoyment out of soldier when I'm constantly switching weapons, it's like pulling out a bunch of different gadgets or something. Hard to describe.

Love my Claymore soldier, I use my Viper or Mattock to thin out enemies before hand (usually) before barrelling in to fill their face with buckshot. One word to describe with Claymore is satisfying.

Also I use the Kestrel set with the stimulator conduits for a boost to speed, gives me enough survivability to get in range to use the Claymore.
