Hey Bear, did you have the high-res texture pack with DX11?

No I did not, I didn't realize they were out, I stopped playing and am DLing them right now

If that improves performance, something is messed up. Higher res textures should not help you! :P

Anti aliasing plays a HUGE role in terms of fps. Even 2x can have a significant performance hit on your gameplay. AF doesn't seem to affect fps much.

This isn't surprising at all. Reducing AA is often a good way to increase performance without losing much in terms of quality.

Patch the game with what ? High resolution textures ? You do realize that won't do much :P

Turn off v-sync if it's on.

I NEVER use vsync in any game. I can't stand it :)

I can pretty much confirm that the game is basically unplayable with everything turned on on DX11 rendered, meaning Very High details, diffusion depth of field, ambient occlusion and 8x AA, 16x AF, 1920x1080 resolution, vsync off (and just to be clear, I'm talking about the retail version, NOT the demo) with the high quality texture pack installed.

Specs :

i7 920 o/ced @ 3.5 Ghz
MSI GTX 570 (single card)
6 GB RAM @ 1600 Mhz Tri Channel
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (fresh install) with 264.24 Nvidia drivers.

I'm currently running around in Kirkwall trying out different settings, in order to find something that will work optimally work for me. Here's my observations :

Anti aliasing plays a HUGE role in terms of fps. Even 2x can have a significant performance hit on your gameplay. AF doesn't seem to affect fps much. Other than that, going from High graphics detail, to very high also incurs a serious performance penalty. Ambient occlusion had as much as a 50 fps hit ! (jesus). Right now, I've settled for high details and no AA, until either Bioware improves performance via a patch, or the new drivers (tomorrow ?) help to alleviate the issues.

bingo.. you have the same issues I do

Well, I wouldn't call them 'issues' per se, granted we both have relatively powerful machines but not sure exactly whether I should be able to run with everything on and stay @ 60 fps. High details is definetely pretty good at the moment.

I wouldn't expect 60 fps with every dx11 option on in 1920x1200-2560x1600.. but 30 isn't too much to ask for ;)

I'm not using any AA and I'm still getting crap performance.

I just found a newer nvidia beta driver just for DA2, I'm going to try that. BRB

Forgot to say that the DX9 renderer is smooth as butter. You can definitely turn on everything imaginable there (AA, AF etc) and not worry at all about performance (in my machine at least). Obviously though, you are stuck on medium details and no special DX11 filters.

TallBearNC not sure what to make of your issues, but you really need max AA and filters to drop below 30. Visually, the differences are very hard to spot though.

Lol, jeez man.  You'd think your rig would be able to overcome it even if there were some bug.

I've just got a 460gtx 1gb, and an i7 950 OCed to 3.8ghz, but that really SHOULD be able to handle this at very high dx11 (probs not much AA though).

Hoping Bioware fixes it.

267.24 specifically mentions DA 2.  Let us know :)

Ok. MUCH better with new drivers.

2560x1600, NO AA, ASFx16, DX 11, VERY HIGH settings, EVERYTHING checked

SLI=31fps avg
NO SLI = 25fps avg

If I turn off motion blur (which I find annoying anyway), and kill ambient occlution, I get about a 10fps increase. So I'm a happy camper now.

Plus if I drop to 1920x1200, I get about a 20fps bump.. but on a native 2560x1600 lcd, any other rez looks "choppy"

I still think BW needs to optimize their DX11 engine as with my rig I sitll should do better.. AND nvidia needs further driver updates.. but this works for me for now

Great news...do you have a link to the 267.28 Nvidia drivers? I am assuming they are the RC of the beta ones up on Nvidia's site. I heard the DX11 performance was crappy without the beta drivers installed...no word on ATI's handling of the game.

cool.

You have a pretty crazy native resolution lol. Not many games support DX11 features like tessellation. Things like that isn't going to give you a bunch of extra FPS.

How/where did you get the 267.28 drivers?  The latest beta that I can find is 267.24 :)

I have a 425m mobile card - I'm assuming there is no mobile compatible version of the more compatible drivers?

Beta drives can always be found under the tab "Additional Software and Drivers".

Here is a direct link:
http://www.nvidia.co...aspx?lang=en-uk

Though when reading the release notes "Improves compatibility with Dragon Age II". its only related to Windows 7 x86 systems, corrupted landscape textures.
