Well after seeing so much promise for new and improved archery, i would like to know what everyone thinks for the best build as an archer, and also, what's the optimal party as an archer? (Drop varric/sebastion?)

I think assassin is a great specialization for archers. Getting archers lance ASAP is also a good idea.

When i tried the demo and did the fight in the chantry as an archer, on nightmare, i basically aoed all the extra's to death with rain of arrows from me and varric, then basically killed the boss fairly easy. I got shivers

Try tank/mage/mage or tank/mage/rogue. Better ranged rogue Seb/Varric. You shouldn't have any issues on any difficulty.

I'll be paying attention to this topic, since I'll be all archery on my rogues to avoid the flippy-jumpy-slashy DBZ nonsense animations.

I'm steadily scheming towards an Archer Rogue party (Hawke, Varric, Isabela, mage i.e. Merrill), in an attempt to duplicate the epic that I had in Awakenings. What I have discerned so far is this:
STR: Gear
DEX: Crit Chance = 100% after Gear and Skills
CUN: rest of the points
Everyone should have a full set of stunning/slowing skills (no upgrades needed, probably with 3 Rogues flinging around Miasmic Flasks, Fogs and whatnot) because it doesn't seem like Archers have enough DPS to just auto-attack / talent enemies into oblivion without slowing them down first. Of course, I bet there's good gear to come yet.
The bow from the Black Emporium is a really good bow (costed about 5 sovereigns) so far in the game, and there's a bow in Lowtown that seems to be the BE Bow Jr. I'll compile all this stuff I figure out into a guide in a little bit.

Going as an archer here. I really think it depends on what your focus is going to be. You can be heavy damage one enemy, vs good damage groups of enemies. I have been going with group oriented damage, and its worked out early, but its too early to tell. Plus there is always a respec potions in the black emporium so im having fun experimenting with the skills, to see how useful (or not) they are.

Wissenschaft has a build similar to what I will be running. My question is what ratio should I be putting my points into Dex and Cun? I was alternating 2:1 Dex to Cun and 2:1 Cun to Dex every level to give me a roughly even amount.

Looks like it didn't get answered but now that we are another day in can anyone recommend a good ratio of dex/cun that has worked for them?

Put just about everything in Cunning until you hit 30 at least if you want to be effective at picking locks and disarming traps, there're are complex trap and chests as early as the Deep Road.
