"after esign you become a 2 LT, then 1 LT, then Cmdr", logic/already knew that). without having to pass through private, sargeant and warrant officer ranks. and he's gained the rank of Commander so quickly most likely due to his actions in the military (holding the line during teh blitz, survivng the thresher maw or you ability to get teh job done at any cost).

oh and Hannah janeway is youR 15yr old mom if you chose the Spacer background (if shepard was 16yr).

i'm talking about any career period (not just the military). ranks are positions. 

how did any of your incoherent post get proven in anyway by me stating he's A) a Naval officer with the rank of Commander Lt. Commander is a higher rank than Commander and C) that skipping ranks is quite common in todays miltiaries? whic BTW Lt Cdr is before Cdr (ie Cdr is a higher rank than Lt Cdr) I was seeing if you actually knew anything or were trolling. I can now tell it was both.

I had to go back to fix this mathematical mishap.  You cannot divide any number by zero.  Try it in a calculator and it will come up as undefined or something like that. It has even been a meme where it is believed that if you divide by zero the universe dies as the commenter above was aluding to.  This has been an OCD interruption.  Now back to your scheduled programing.

this is stupid. a commander and captain are not the same ranks. a ship must have a person with the RANK of CAPTAIN commanding it, and everyone else onboard. so where's the captain of the SR if shepard isn't the captain? why is there a commander coimmanding the sr as if he's captain?

Shepard is a captain and on his her ship has the role of captain but his/her military commission is commader and a commander can be the captian of a ship. Shepard may be the captain of the Normandy but this does not make his/her military rank captain, no more than it would make any random Joe Blog with a ship a captain in military ranks.
I suppose everyone on the ship could call him/her Captain Commander Sheapard if they wanted but that’s too much of a mouth full and it simpler, less confusing and sounds better just to use his/her military commission.
