Honestly I'm sick of the idea of academics playing a role in the military. Frankly I think your brainwashed by that idea. Experience overules academics anyday, but sad to know today in our U.S military. You can have some dipsh!t having no experience in combat but since he has a college degree, he has the right to command men with combat experience?

So we have men who are booksmart but have no common sense commanding men who are not booksmart but having common sense. Shepard is not incompetent in any matter, he kicked **** proved his worth rose the ranks based ON EXPERIENCE.

He deserves the rank even if he made it within 2-3 years. Hell today even if you saved 100 men, and risked your life to save them behind enemy lines. All you receive is a medal thats it, no promotion in rank, no given authority. Today with no actual wars going on its just bureaucracy now.

That's why Sergeants are for. Officers are given tactical knowledge while NCO's give the experience and lead the mens.

Rank in the US Navy is as follows:
Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Vice Adm
Rear Adm upper
Rear Adm lower
Captain
Commander
LT Commander
Lieutenant
Lieutenant, junior grade
Ensign

Also, you can be accelerated promoted to a certain rank depending on the office a certain officer holds. For example, the commander of the submarine force is a Vice Admiral by position. Theoretically, an outstanding Rear Adm lower half could get the position and be promoted two ranks. I assume this happened with Hannah Shepherd.

Also, this guy is an idiot.

what the frack? what?! there is no special treatment in the military. no i will not think that. you don't earn your rank just by being impressive or charismatic, you earn it as you get properly promoted.

There are many people from army from many countries and they never cared.

I only remember when one complained about that security guy by Legion since he is saluting with left hand which is considered an insult among military worldwide.

Greybox_Inception wrote...]here we go with this bullcrap again. this is the reason why i made this thread in the first place. he is not a LT COMMANDER, Mr Zulu Kahn, he's allegeldy COMMANDER, supposed to be CAPTAIN and NOT COMMANDER (Why is there a ship with only a COMMANDER who isn't LT COMANNDER and not a CAPTAIN onboard as COMMANDING OFFICER?)..... where the stupidity do you people get this misconception crap from?

please don't say 1LT COMMANDER/2LT COMMANDER is above COMMANDER:( because it ain't.

Warships are not always commanded by Captains. For example, most of the US Navy's frigates and destroyers are commanded by Commanders, not Captains.  Same goes for a large number of the Navy's submarines.  Officers who actually hold the rank of Captain get the cruisers and carriers.  So, Shepard doesn't have to be a Captain to command a warship...the Normandy was explicitly identified as a frigate in ME1.

Besides, Shepard is technically working for Cerberus, which is not a military organization.  There are no officer billets aboard the SR2 because nobody in Cerberus actually holds military rank.

But Bioware made this rank system up, so they can say whatever they want to.  Makes no sense to me that old man Pressley is probably just one rank above Shepard in ME1, and he's easily 20 years older than Shepard is.
