An Anders Thread for the Spoiler Set...

RULES: This is not a sacred shrine to Anders, but a place where discussion is encouraged alongside gushing, tears and whatever DA2 inspires in Fanders and non-Fanders alike. Yes. Fanders

SPOILER POLICY: ALLOWED! Be very careful if you haven't played the entire game, because this is a place for us to talk about DA2's plot as much as it is about Anders' role in it.

DA2 Character PageDA2: Meet Anders!

"It is the Maker who creates mages. The Chantry was built by men, and it can be brought down by them."Anders, the light-hearted rebel mage from Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening, has changed. Urged by his friend Justice to fight the Circle of Magi more actively, Anders agreed to become Justice's human host… only to find that his anger at the Circle warped Justice into the demonic spirit of Vengeance. Now Anders must struggle mentally and physically to maintain his control over the demon within... at least long enough to see the Circle of Magi forever.

Specialization: Vengeance
Romance On?: **** yeah. Anders is a romance option for Lady Hawkes and Dude Hawkes.

Whether you love Anders or hate him, I'm thrilled that he's had such a deep impact on so many of you. When we started writing, I said that I would claim victory if I got even one player to change their preconceived ideas of who to side with based on the actions Anders and Meredith take. It sounds like we've achieved that. People tend to think of being devoted to a cause as a noble and heroic thing, but it's actually pretty frightening if you think about what it means to have an abstract ideal which means more to someone than their own or anyone else's life.

Yes, I did write the panting. And Adam was absolutely amazing at all the emotional stuff. I think he deserves a lot of the credit for bringing the new Anders to life. Also kuddos to Jon Epp who did the cinematic design on the kiss scene. I was pretty blown away myself at how well that came together.

In the writers' room, we keep talking about doing a Che Guevara "Viva la Revolution!" t-shirt with Anders's face instead of Che's.

You only get the manic dialogue post-"Justice" if you're not yet eligible for the end-stage approval dialogue. So, you need to not be at 100% friend or rival and talk to him after "Justice," to get to see him go crazy-manic.

Hey guys -- some days back, someone posted a comment about having shown the Anders kiss scene to non-gamer friends and having them rush out to buy DA. I can't find it -- can someone point me to where that comment is?

I wrote most of Legacy before going on maternity leave. It takes place before the final battle, so Anders can be present regardless of how you ended the game. And it definitely has some special content for him, though probably not as much as you're all hoping for.

To my knowledge, Bioware Austin is still currently hiring and require no previous game writing experience, just an understanding of Bioware-style storytelling and a kick-ass sample.

I always felt that thing about rivalry relationships in DA (for everyone, but particularly Anders) is that they're all talk, no action, and that's why they're still a form of relationship instead of the termination of that relationship. Gaining rivalry points with Fenris is a very different thing than actually turning him over to Danarius. When you are earning rivalry points, it means you are still loyal to the character, and they are still loyal to you, despite your disagreements.

When I wrote rival Hawke, I was imagining her gnashing her teeth in frustration that Anders can't see the mess he's made of his life, and he's just as frustrated that she can't see that he's in the right about it. She tries to shock him out of his acceptance of what he's become to force him to see that Justice has corrupted him (and ultimately succeeds when they split sufficiently for Justice to just take over and do the bombing, albeit not in a way that ends up benefiting anyone). Anders, for his part, recognizes that for all that Hawke says, she's saying it out of concern for him, since if she really just saw him as unsaveable, she would turn him over to the templars. It's certainly not a healthy relationship, but it's definitely a dynamic that exists in real life (granted, in real life, they've usually had time to build a foundation of that relationship *before* the crazy starts, but I thought it was at least a dynamic some people would relate to).

P.S. I love that 2000+ pages later, you guys are still actually talking about the character. Thanks for all the love.

Hey everyone. Hope you don't mind a shameless plug, but I just saw some clips of the Smuggler Corso Riggs romance that I wrote for SWTOR up on You Tube and I was ecstatic at the voice acting and overall finished scene. So, if you enjoyed Anders (especially with Sarcastic Hawke) and don't mind SWTOR spoilers, you might want to take a look.
