The Grey Wardens help almost everybody in a way.
-They saved the Warden from imminent death.
-Saved Anders from hanging. (Before the bastard who took his cat, and the ****ing Chantry interfered*! (and before we introduced him to Justice...))
-Gave Nate a chance at redemtion. (Loghain, too)
-Gave Sigrun a purpose.
-Stopped Carver whining so bloody much.
-Made Bethany grow up.

*who thinks Stroud is responsible for this? <_<

I do wonder how much of that is the Grey Wardens as a whole versus just our warden. Would Duncan have recruited the Awakening companions? I could see him taking on Nate and Sigrun, but I'm not sure about Velanna or Anders. He did what was necessary, but I wonder if he would have seen some of our decisions at Vigil's Keep in a different light, given his experience and deeper knowledge of Warden practices.

I don't think Stroud was responsible for what happened to Anders, but he may have been around at the time. Given that he's wandering around the Free Marches, I'm not sure he'd be the one in charge of the Amaranthine branch of the Order. They go where they're needed, but its only a couple years after the Blight, so you'd think there'd still be plenty left to do in Ferelden.

That said, does anyone else tend to forget that Anders is a Warden in DAII until it gets randomly mentioned?

It might be that he just has so much other **** going on that the fact he's a Warden gets lost.

Thirty years isn't too bad.
(Hell, they saved Duncan too... and Alistair...)

I do that! XD
Seriously, with all the angst going on, I can't believe they left out the potential for "My time is limited, I am a dying man..." type dialogues. (Not to mention the calling and e.t.c.)

My point of view regarding Anders is that you found him surrounded by the dead bodies of darkspawn (and he potentially murdered the Templars too. Not only that, he apparently escaped the circle, which is hardly easy.) I think that makes him good potential... but maybe that's just me.

Velanna too, she caused a boat load of trouble all by herself.

If he's in charge of the Fereldan branch, I demand to see my Warden kicking his a** and screaming "Give me back my job, you ****!!!"

Because being possessed, slowly losing his mind, and blowing up Chantries wasn't enough for you?  ^_^

"By the way, even if we run off together I should tell you that I only have a few more years to live and what not. It's a Warden thing. Assuming of course I don't lose myself to Justice in that time, or get caught and am made Tranquil, or randomly trip and fall off a cliff. That'd be fitting, I think."

(My) Hawke: "My brother/sister is in the same boat / forced to run for her life again / going to go crazy from a lyrium-addiction / dead, my mother was turned into Frankenstine's bride. My father is dead. My second home is in ruins, and I'm on the run again... Yeah, I think I can handle it."

I popped into this thread to ask a question, and was greeted by the greatest image ever.

I am in awe... and my favourite weapon in DAII now has another use. Thank you.

*Drools*

...it also makes me think of Alistair's "if the King asks me to put on a dress and dance the remigold, I'm drawing the line, Darkspawn or no."

Uh, oh yeah. My question.

So I'm doing the Night Terrors quest and want to get the "Anders in the Fade" dialogue (and tell him it was a ruse). My question is, after I fight Justice, do I then have to fight Torpor, or can I "make the deal", do the Desire and Pride demons, and then betray Torpor at the end?

Or do I only get the one shot and have to fight him right after fighting Justice?

(I also wanted to add I love this quest because I get to spend some quality time with my favorite fade spirit turned demon in denial. *Drools*)

Yes you can make a deal with torpor and get attribute points, runes and some other stuff depending on teh options you chose. However.... if you are in a romance with Anders he will drop you like a hot potato if you do the deal and the romance is over and there's no way to bluff him if you do the deal.

Erm. That didn't answer my question. @.@

I'm asking if I can tell Torpor I'll make the deal, then betray him after dealing with the other demons, thus saving Fenyriel, but not gaining any attriubutes/talents/runes because I didn't actually make the deal, I just said I would.

ah right not sure about that one. It doesn't take long so maybe make a save before and try it out and see what happens.

Haha, fair enough.

Remembering the 'Anders dies pathetically of TB' comments earlier suddenly made me think of Keats.

Keats was a doctor, Anders is a healer.

Keats was angsty, Anders is angsty.

Keats gave up his profession for poetry, Anders gave up his profession to blow **** up.

OMG THEY ARE THE SAME!

See, to me that would make them both less likely to be candidates. They might be good fighters and resourceful, but becoming a Warden is a very permanent sort of captivity and would Duncan risk having a recruit run off the moment he gets bored?
And Velanna, well, she's a killer. He recruits Tabris, yes, so it might be a toss-up, but the whole thing with her sister might not turn out well.

Bethany works because she is such a little sister, and as a consequence it's easier to feel ultimately far more responsible for her fate than Carver. Carver from the very start resents Hawke and wants to forge his own path. So I kind of felt the consequences of my Hawke's decisions regarding his/her sibling more when it's Bethany.

I guess it depends what role you want the sibling to have in your Hawke's life. The part I italicized is exactly why I prefer Carver, and why my Hawke thought his little brother was an arse but was ultimately understanding and admired Carver for wanting to be his own man. That's why he took Carver with him into the Deep Roads (it was his decision, not Hawke's) and that's why he couldn't just let Carver die there either.

In my non-mage playthroughs Bethany just feels like the cute little sister they want to protect, and it crushes them when they fail to do so. Which is why I said Bethany feels less like her own character than... I dunno, a plot-device for Hawke in terms of characterization and motivation. But that's just how I see it, I quite like both but have a clear bias.

This Warden taint thing doesn't seem to be all bad... Alistair turned up in my game and he seemed pretty perky and that's ten years after all the blight shenanigans... Anders is a newer Grey Warden than him (only by a couple of months mind)

Speaking of which, I don't know how old Duncan was but he seemed to be fairing pretty well before that Ogre had his way with him.

Pfff, taint. Nothing a nice aspirin can't sort out.

quick question how do I get fenris and anders to fight over my fem mage Hawke?
i know i have to romance them both I did that but the scene i want toget is when anders stops hawke and talks about fenris and then they have a battle afterwards (saw video on youtube)

They dont have a battle afterwards. That's the sceene you get for "continuing" the relationship with Fenris in act three. When you go with Anders for his quest in act 3 (aka, bomb-making), he'll question your decision to be with Fenris. Then, as soon as the scene ends, you get jumped by thugs ^_^

oh thank you for clearing that up :)
but if i choose to not continue the relationship with fenny the res will there be an option to pick anders or would i have to start the game again?

Eh, if Anders is in his mid to late twenties in the acts, and he has thirty years to live, that's a long time.

But yeah, my Hawke would say: "I told you I didn't want a normal life. Got anything else to make it less so?"

I suppose it depends on the Warden recruiting.
As Duncan pointed out: "Wardens do what they must."
And Riordan made a point of stating that the number of Grey Wardens were down, and the Wardens recruit anybody with the skills to take down the darkspawn.

Also, if Anders runs, where to?
He'll just be hunted by templars again.

Velanna was useful as long as her sister is missing.
