Having just finished Awakening again I find it does work well as a lead in to DA2 as much as it is an epilogue to Origins. This is in no small part due to Anders and Justice really, their banter with each other and others works not only as foreshadowing but as an explanation as to why Anders changes so much (even though at the time of playing DAOA we had no idea he would). It just makes it so much clearer how 'Justisified' Anders is by DA2, he has been written as a perfect amalgamation of Justice and Anders, just as advetised.

This obviously isn't new to the majority of posters here, and I had always understood the foreshadowing was there and the reason behind Anders' change. However playing through Awakening so soon after DA2 just underlines it and has convinced me that even if you dislike the direction they took with Anders you can't blame the writing (as some have) as really it's remarkably consistant when considering Justice as well.

Not to mention it really does make the events of DA2 even more tragic, Anders and Justice's conversation about doing something to help his fellow mages (something Anders is very much against) as well as little details like his heated disagreement with burning Amaranthine. Perhaps most notably they did write DAOA Anders to be persuadable about this stuff to some extent, as if (should you play it this way) you are slowly changing his mind, beliefs and perspective (something he discusses in depth at one point).

Eh I just found it the most interesting part of re-playing the expansion so felt like harping on about it incoherantly for a bit. Although it still bugs me that they obviously had some idea of where they were going with his character yet still wrote in the happy ending epilogue bits that really jar your immersion if you know he's in DA2.

Edit: i should clarify, it's not really an Andersish song, but it's still one of the sexiest sounding songs ever.   Keenan.

I was playing my complete bastard warrior in DA2, but I've just been told I have to go upstairs and play Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with the teenager...time to go get beaten up severely I guess.

I agree with your entire post, especially this.  I can understand why a lot of people aren't happy with the direction they took Anders in DA2, since it's pretty damn depressing and Anders isn't exactly a barrel of laughs anymore.  But the people who claim Anders was just shoehorned into his DA2 role and they should have created an entirely new character because "he's not the same person" make me want to beat my head against the wall.  Not only did they miss the foreshadowing in Awakening, they also apparently didn't pay attention to Anders' character in DAO:A beyond "Oh look at the funny guy, ho ho ho!"

Yep. Even when you first meet him in DA2 he's a mix of the two. It's very well written

Well it IS Saturday.
Most of MY friends are boozin'. I don't drink though....had a very nasty accident once involving my best friend Lindsay and an egg beater...after we had a contest to see how many shots of tequila we could drink.
She still holds it over my head.

Plus, I'm pretty boring. I prefer to stay at home.
