There's a long list of reasons why one would hate Anders.
But there's also a long list of reasons why you'd hate every other LI....Anders is just the one who blew up the Chantry.

I am amazed that people "hate" a character so much for his actions (i.e willful murder and destruction of holy ground) but they "happily" stab him in the back, in anger and betrayal, and rarely because he is basically asking you to kill him.  And then gleefully gloat about it, Anders certainly didn't do that for his actions, it would have been funny though,  I really wish they had an option of making him face you when you kill him.

Yes, he did a horrible thing and his planning and tactics utterly sucked, and it didn't help he had a corrupted spirit squatting in his head. I think double standards are being employed here [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie].

I love the Romance, but really I wasn't impressed with his voice, I was "meh", especially because of the monotone delivery he had. Show me more emotion, dammit!

It wouldn't make any difference.
Hell, when the Chantry blew up in my first playthrough, I wanted his blood on my hands.
But no, I just spared his life, because I'm a soft touch, and ****ed to myself the rest of the game.

Which makes it fun! 10 thousand debates on weither or not Anders was right, wrong, or deserved to be stabbed (I cried my first pt when I romanced him and litterally had NO IDEA what was going on till the effing chantry blew up. I caved and totally took him with me *nod*) to death, could be had in this thread..


but add a picture of Rainbow Anders, and suddenly it's AMAZING. This thread totally made me do a m!hawke/Anders playthrough, and I can no longer romance him as a female. Its WRONG. Anders is ambigiuously wonderful.*nod*

Or a dating sim, where all the love interests are blow-up dolls with no personalities, no agendas, and they just giggle at everything you say.

Seriously, though, I understand hatred for characters/games/whatever, but I don't think I've ever hated anything enough to write on and on about it. Usually the only reason I go on a forum is to talk about how much I loved something. If I hated something, I usually forget about it and move on. If I loved something though, I just can't stop obsessing about it.

Plus, it's extra fun to be crazy obsessed with other crazy people over a crazy guy.

I like the way you think and I completely agree with the bolded statement.  That's exactly what I don't get, but then again, in this internet age, trolls are a dime a dozen, and sometimes people just can't seperate fantasy/fiction from real life. Or they apply modern standards to a world  where they don't apply at all. I don't mind that people really hate a character, just don't try to apply your emotions or decisions on someone else because they like that character.
Obsession is a fangirls lifeline, I know this. And boy do I love all the crazyawesome things that come out of this thread.

I hated Loghain for a long time and passed many an afternoon Arguing About It On The Internet. It was fun, as long as the opposition was informed and respectful. I also argued in defense of Alistair quite a bit, as a character and a love interest.

I'm avoiding most Anders discussions because there are too many levels of hatred to peel back, and most people are pretty dead-set in their opinions on terrorism and templar v. mage and his character in general. And then there's the whole aspect of character autonomy v. player choice that underlies so much of the vitriol and...yeah. I'll stay here for now.

This is the main source of the hate I think. If the option to blow up the chantry had been a direct PC quest then they'd have been all "Ooo pretty pyrotechnics" and gone straight to the next quest.

Seconded.  (Thirded?)  It reminds me of all the vitriol directed at Alistair over the Landsmeet confrontation, only this time it seems about a thousand times hotter.  Personally, I like not having complete control over NPCs and the plot... but, then, if I felt differently I probably wouldn't like this game (and Anders!) quite so much.

My neighbor's dog is just having a great time out there barking at my dog, and my dog, in turn is barking right back. It's a symphony of yips (neighbor's dog) and RARFS (my dog).

I think his house could use a little touch of decimation.

If you have dog problems, I think Anders would just suggest you get a cat instead of give you the bomb recipe.
