Yeah, I understand wanting to be the infallible badass, but that's why I play Mass Effect, tbh. If I want to be able to [right hook] all my friends into obedience, I'll be Shepard. Hawke is more interesting to me because s/he's not in control of those around her, not even her own lover.

Gotta ask Anders for his bomb recipe.
I'm pretty sure it's more than urine, feces, and rocks.

My neighbor's dog is just having a great time out there barking at my dog, and my dog, in turn is barking right back. It's a symphony of yips (neighbor's dog) and RARFS (my dog).

I think his house could use a little touch of decimation.

If you have dog problems, I think Anders would just suggest you get a cat instead of give you the bomb recipe.

I've got two of those.
One of them is named Anders:
Image IPB

He eats food off of the counters. He knows how to open the fridge. He tears open the dog's food. He tears our screen and escapes outside. He eats food right off our plates...while we're eating. He follows me around all day. He also tends to jump onto my pant leg, hang on with his claws, and just ride around there for a half hour at a time.

I'd rather have the dog.

EDIT: (oh and did I mention that that bag of cat litter in the background, which was donated to us by my mother, was torn open and eaten the next day? He ate three mouthfuls and had to go to a vet to induce kitty litter vomiting. Dumb as a box of rocks, this kitten. :pinched:

Write a wedding manifesto and leave several copies of it around the houses of the people you want to show up.

Anders would dislike me. I have two dogs and no cats. I love cats but my dogs love to eat cats, thus, no kitties for me anymore.

As to character autonomy, I happen to love that your companions have their own lives and do their own thing. Sure, Anders is an extra frustrating version of that, but I think it makes them seem more real. Granted, I think people will complain about it either way. I've heard plenty of people complain about ME characters being annoying because they always need Shepard to help them get s*** done.

Really, I'm glad they handled Anders the way they did. I don't know if I could have ever made one of my Hawkes bomb the Chantry and they all likely would have had to kill Anders to stop him if they'd been told before hand. The way it is now, for my Hawkes who agree a war is necessary for change, they have Anders to start it.

POINT THE FIRST: There shall be no referring to Manda as 'the Bride'.

POINT THE SECOND: Whiteness of the dress is incidental.

POINT THE THIRD: Stop staring at Manda, it makes her nervous.

POINT THE FOURTH: Cake!

I like having Hawke unable to control events too. But then I always enjoyed creating half broken characters and dragging them through hell and back just to see what's left afterwards.

That's what I liked about DA2 as well, your companions had motivations of their own, I think it brought in interesting dynamic that I hadn't seen in a RPG that I have play before. I like that some choices were out of the PC's hands, it made it more realistic and gave more of an emotional impact. Don't get me wrong, I loved being able to shape the words/galaxy in DAO and ME, but I think DA2 shines in its own write with the fixed plot.

I am replaying DAO right now, and I am so sad-facing at Daveth right now, why couldn't I have had you, or had you in my party.:crying: You adorably sexy, smart ass rogue.

Stopping in for a fix of Anders love. I just got finished killing him in my current PT and I'm seriously broken up about it. Had to walk away from the game for a bit.

It amazes me how much more I get attached to the character with each PT. This was my second time killing him and it was damn near impossible to do it this me. Not sure I can ever go through with it again. It's just so tragic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one horndogging on Daveth.
I loved him. :) Not a fan of Jory, though.

Jory irritated me. It felt like he wanted to be a Warden for all the wrong reasons, especially with his line about there being no glory in this at the joining ritual.

Daveth on the other hand had the right attitude. He seemed to understand that being a Warden was about making sacrifices so that others wouldn't have to.

I can see some of that in Anders too ( to get it back on topic). Whethert we agree with his motivations and actions or not. He believed he was trying to free an oppressed minority and was willing to die if he had to. I don't believe the friendship version wanted to die since he's too happy when you let him live, but I think he knew people would want him dead for his actions and accepted that.

I absolutely agree. I personally feel, that if I - as the player - am in conrtol of everything, the experience feels fake or forced. This was painfully evident in DA:O most oft the time, and that's one of the reasons why I like DA2 so much better. It literally takes a lot of choice away. - It doesn't allow the player to be the superhero who solves all problems with a smile and a handwave, and I love it.
For me, this makes the character I am in control of feel a lot more human and relatable, Yeah, Hawke can make mistakes, Hawke can be talked down or ignored. Which is a lot more dynamic.
And it gives the NPCs or companions a lot more character. - THEY live their lives, not you. They come to you if they think they need your assistance, as a friend, but the choices they make are their own.
Of course there are situation where you can talk them down or convince them to make a choice, but that's human. Sometimes we all struggle and need a nudge from a friend, whether it is for the better or the worse.

And in the case of Anders I believe it was a great choice to strip the player of any control and put them into the role of someone who was just as shocked and taken by surprise by the turn of events. - That felt horrible, but at the same time, it was a great experience because it moved you personally.

I don't mind such things. I didn't mind the semi-ending of RDR as well, even though it tore me apart, and I nearly cried and still almost always do when I hear "Deadman's gun".
And seriously, "Heavy Rain" wouldn't be the same game if the player was always completely in control of the situations. Sure, if you are quick and have good reactions you can get out of situations alive, but if you mess up a bit too often, it's over, and you know it. - And the game still moves on without the character. That's a great concept as well, and it makes you realise that you are not in complete control of the situation. Never, actually.

Has anyone ever seen a real-life Anders? I just walked past a real-life Zevran. Wish I could have snapped a pic but I'm pretty sure that's like weird-pervy if not illegal.

YEAHHH that's illegal. Hahaha
It's supposed to be, anyway. People still do it.

I have not seen anyone who looks like a DA character...except for a girl that resembled Leliana shopping at the book store I always go to.
I wanted to walk over and be like, "Oh geeeez. I thought I killed you. Damn BioWare."

@Threeparts I am shamelessly addicted to commissions and will list the people I have gotten them from for you guys if you wish (as well as some pricing ideas) in PM form. If you look at my fanfic thread HERE you can see the work they've done for my fics, although I haven't got my latest Aimo ones up there yet because she hasn't posted them on DevArt digitally and I don't have a scanner.

The ones who do commissions are Tankgirly, Cave-Fatuam, Aimo and SweetCandyRain. Cave has a bad hand at the moment so isn't working so fast, but the others are all accepting at the moment. OH AND PAYROO, who is probably lurking, but does awesome work. I don't think she has any slots at the moment though!

Commissions are my heroin, seriously. I love them so much. (may have another couple in the works at the moment as well because I can't stop myself).

commissions...oh yes.

I'm waiting on one from SweetCandyRain atm as well.

They are easily going to become my new crack, I can tell.

Agreed, but I admit, there are situations where we should have more control over action (like we should have an option to kill  Grace, or Petrice... especially Grace, since she's an apostate who we have every right to suspect of practicing blood magic).
