I guess I just find something poetic and brilliant in being forced between two options that are equally miserable. I'm not complaining about the All That Remains quest. It's probably my favorite part of the game. I used it as an example because there were parallels being drawn between that and the Connor/Isolde decision. But I would have liked to see more of that kind of thing in the game, and I'm not convinced that it was all the dev's plan all along to strip the player of their choices. It's still a brilliant game in my eyes, but I, personally, would have liked it all the more if it had a bit more choice. Particularly the "no good outcome" type of choice. Just my own preference, I guess.

Wow, my buddy is nerd raging hard. Just got another email from him - now says he doesn't like "not feeling heroic" and won't play another DA game. Dude, you played through FOUR times. I think you got your monies worth. He hates Anders. If only he'd romanced him, he'd feel differently.

Okay, I gotta ask what kind of logic is involved when someone plays the game four times if they hate not feeling heroic that much. Ooo, truffle bar - shiny. Sorry, I'm watching a show about candy and desserts (I tell you, they had chocolate-dipped Jelly Bellies earlier!!!!!).

Yeah it's supposed to be Varric's theme song but it kinda fits Anders as well.

Though this - - is totally Anders/Hawke's theme.

And this - - is totally Anders/Justice's theme.

Haha I knooooow! It was one of you who suggested Cosmic Love like a month ago and I gave it a shot and loved it soooooo much! I also like Heavy in Your Arms because of that Anders video someone made - soooo goood!

And I only JUST managed to listen to Blinding all the way through and it is actually my latest favourite. I keep imagining a Hawke in the middle of a horribly gory fight of mages vs. templars and there's a wounded Anders and lots of force magicking templars around. Next time I listen to it I'll think of Anders and Justice and see what comes up.

I think that's supposed to be centered around Varric.
Am I wrong? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that song is centered around Varric.

I never thought it was about Varric, to tell the truth.

I mean. There's a ghost in my lungs and it talks in my sleep. Wraps itself around my toungue as it softly speaks. Then it walks, then it walks, then it walks with my legs made me go DDDDDD:

And I listened to that song nearly 500 times in my insomnia trips .

I felt like the end credit song fit Hawke, all the companions and some major NPCs in one way or another but it suited Anders the best

But I may possibly be biased in that opinion

Yeah it's Varric's theme.
I'm guessing it has to do with his super secret romance.
That they're all hush hush about. :bandit:

The lyrics...the lyrics I'm not a fan of.

I don't really think All That Remains would have worked if there were multiple outcomes, even if they were all equally bad ones. Part of the reason it was impactful was that there was absolutely nothing you could do to stop it, and it explicitly stripped you of your agency and set you up to feel powerless. Being able to choose an outcome would have dulled that significantly.

Perhaps.

I just see it as a different type of powerlessness if you can make choices but no matter what, the outcome isn't any better for it.

That's an entirely different source of tension, though. I don't know how well it would have held up if it was supposed to stand on your grief concering the death of Leandra/Bethany/whoever else would have to die alone, given the fact they don't really have enough presence and development to really impact the player at that stage of the game completely on their own. A big part of it is the denial of agency, the disgust at how she dies, etc.

If you had a Redcliffe-like decision (ignoring the everyone lives happy ending), where the tension was derived from having to make that choice and being responsible (i.e. giving you agency and making you wish you didn't, the exact opposite of the tension that All That Remains is built on), the multiple options work. The presence of choices would force you to dwell on the fact you personally are responsible for the possible deaths. That sort of thing would have just conflicted with what ATR was doing, since it'd still ultimately be Quentin's fault that everything happens (and Quentin is a completely unsympathetic character, unlike Connor, so it is incredibly easy to put all of the blame on him), so you would have just missed out on both the guilt associated with agency and the powerlessness associated with the denial of agency.

edit: WHY DOES THE FORMATTING RANDOMLY **** ITSELF

Okay, this is a little late because I was catching up but it's totally relevant (it has Anders!). People were talking about the passage of time and someone even mentioned Assassin's Creed. Thus, this:

@ Kawamura - LMFAO that does, in fact, make sense. And would explain a whole lot of ****.

@Ninche - Anders' theme song is My Gay Boyfriend.

I'm not a fan of I'm Not Calling You a Liar either. I love Florence, but that's probably the weakest song in her album. The Inon Zur version is somewhat better though.

I thought Rogue Heart was Varric's theme song? Or is that Isabela's? I guess you could apply Mage Pride to Anders, but that's basically Fenris' theme with Tevinter lyrics. :(
I kinda thought that 'I'm not Calling you a Liar' was more about Anders than Varric too. Could be that I'm biased though.

You don't want to know how many times lastfm says I've played Florence + the Machine's album.

Edit: OMG, that comic is hilarious!

I'm pretty sure at this point I am in a terrible position to judge if a song is or is not about Anders. Every song is about Anders now. Especially this: www.youtube.com/watch :wizard:

Oh, and I love everyone's facial hair in that comic. I especially like the squirrel on Merrill's chin and that Anders has gone from prettiest hobo to just plain, honey badger, nasty ass hobo.

@Kawamura-
You've seen a lot of beards?
Jealoussssssssssssssss.
I've seen two. IN MY ENTIRE LIFETIME. I'm not joking.
Not many people sport beards in these parts.

@Ninche - Where is this? I must see it. :D
