I felt like the bi scheme was forced in DA II. I would much prefer them to write it into a character rather than to just flip the bisexual switch on everyone. Your character should be able to hit on anyone of course, but it shouldn't lead anywhere on a non bi- or ******- sexually written character. That's just me though. I feel like the some companions should be straight/gay/bi whatever instead of making them all one of the options.
I politely disagree.
I never got the feeling that a 'switch' was being flipped. I just felt like the LI's had a genuine interest in Hawke that could develop into a full-blown romance, if pursued, and that's kind of the way I like it. Equal opportunity and choice for everyone.
Plus, let's not forget the overwhelming number of people who were sad!facing prior to DA2 because there was 'so much evidence' that Anders was straight in Awakening (I still say he flirted with Nate
I'm lucky in the sense that I dig all of the romances, and there's honestly nothing I dislike about the Fenris romance. I just like the Anders romance more, so if I had to choose between the two, I would probably pick Anderes 99.9% of the time.
I would have been srsly depressed if his romance was 'straight only', just like I'm sure there are Fenris fans who would have been depressed if he was 'straight only'.
There's really no 'win-win' way to implement the romances, but I'm glad they were done in a way that let me choose who my favorite was rather than it being a forced decision brought about by gender restrictions.

Having Anders as a healer pleased me. Usually that's the "girl's" spot.
This pretty much sums up why I always end up with my canon Warden/Hawke being warrior girls. Also one of the reasons why I love Anders with my 2H warrior Hawke. She's the big strong girl with a giant sword and he's the perpetually distressed damsel.
Yeah. That's one reason I would play a f!Hawke: so I could have a big strong warrior sweep Anders off his feet.
But I love male mages. Though my Hawke is far more "masculine" than my Surana.

Honestly, when I met Anders in DA2, I expected him to be surrounded with ladies and drinking wine.
So when he whipped his staff out at me I was like, "Well, I have deduced that he may be a bit different in this game."
As for the sexuality aspect, who cares?
Karl was his first, it's not like he was going all SuperSecretGay on the dudes in Awakening.
And it's not like many options for him to discuss the deep recesses of his sexuality arise in Awakening.

I like everyone being bi. It means I, as a player, get to pick who I want to romance. It doesn't at all feel forced to me. It just feels like I get to be who I wanna be and diddle who I want to diddle.
Did you just say diddle?
Hell yes, I just said diddle.
And I find all bi LI's no more problematic than a huge inventory or health potions that work instantly. Both those aren't really natural, but they make the game more fun for me.
Omggg lol diddle.
That's right up there with potty.
Things I'll only say to small children and pets.
You talk to kids about diddling?
What a weirdo.

Well since I didn't know the word existed before today, no.
But I'll definitely start using it at inappropriate times.
I'll fit right in around here.

Hmm, come to think of it, my only male Warden was a mage. My only male Hawke is a rogue who loves to twirl his bow about constantly.
But on topic, um... I love you Anders, you fabulous little healer you.

The whole "first" thing still bothers me honestly. What does that mean exactly? First man he had sex with? First "true love"? He certainly didn't show any emotional attachment to anyone in DA:A, so it really can be taken both ways.
I take it as first man he slept with. Or did more than sleep with.
But you're right, he could've been a SuperSecret...PanBiWhatever in Awakening, and it was just never mentioned.

Well he certainly didn't seem interested in any of my lady Wardens. I love that comic where the Warden goes "Pretty girl, right here" and Anders is all "Heh heh, yeeaahhh..."

I figured he either meant the first man he slept with or possibly even the first person he slept with period. I can't see it as the first person he loved, since he seems to imply that perhaps Hawke is the first person he's really fallen in love with.

It's just too... expected or something. Romance a male warrior, sure, but not play one.

I like having a sarcastic Hawke that can't always back his **** up when it comes to fisticuffs.
It's like that scene in A Knight's Tale, where Chaucer is mocking Wat and gets his lights punched out.
... Actually, that's exactly like my Hawke. I shoulda named him Geoffry, not Vergil. Maybe I'll change it. Vergil was too Tevinter sounding anways (even though I did the "Ferelden" vowel shift thingy).

I always thought diddling was masturbation, myself.
It has a lot of different meanings. I've heard it used for female masturbation, genital petting of any sex and just plain boning.

But first love doesn't make that much sense either given his dialogue with Hawke. Still, to me at least it sounds like the most plausible of the 3.

How does it not make sense? Karl was his "first", which doesn't have to mean he's been in an active relationship with him forever. The impression I got was that they were together before in the past and remained friends if not sexually active. Anders had plenty of time to get his lady boning on.silver-crescent wrote...
But the thing is - if he's bi, and if he slept around in the Circle like he claims to (not to mention at the Pearl), he probably would have had sex with both women and men. So Karl being the first person he slept with doesn't make any sense. First man he slept with? Makes some more sense but still not a lot honestly.
But first love doesn't make that much sense either given his dialogue with Hawke. Still, to me at least it sounds like the most plausible of the 3.

I guess it depends on when you think he and Karl had a relationship. It always sounded to me like they were together once, but hadn't been for a while. So, they were still friends and stayed in touch, but their actual relationship ended quite a while before the game starts. That's why first time/first with a guy made sense to me. However, if their relationship was more recent, that wouldn't make sense because he did seem to be sleeping around a lot before then.
