He's gorgeous and all, but his character is too goody-two-shoes.

I am gonna go out on a perverted limb here and say he totally got gang banged by flint mercenaries and liked it. But then was too ashamed, and was like "Maker noooo!" And thats the real reason he has you kill them.

But of course I made that up.

He's too "pure" and the setting demands he has some unsavory secret. Everyone else seems to.

Anders says Karl was "the first" after explaining that the apprentices sleep around to forget about their station in life. Therefore, Karl was the first person Anders fooled around with for that purpose. You can then make a reasonable guess that unless Anders was getting any before age 12 when he was taken to the circle, Karl was also 'his first.' And then you infer there were others after, because it's Anders. And he and Karl stayed friends.

I guess it depends on when you think he and Karl had a relationship. It always sounded to me like they were together once, but hadn't been for a while. So, they were still friends and stayed in touch, but their actual relationship ended quite a while before the game starts. That's why first time/first with a guy made sense to me. However, if their relationship was more recent, that wouldn't make sense because he did seem to be sleeping around a lot before then.

Oh that's a good point. I just had never thought of them having known each other for a very long time. Karl was also from the Fereldan Circle right? 

I just figured they had met after Anders left the Circle, which is probably innacurate now that I think about it.

Anders is too smart to bone the Warden Commander. That's just asking for a problem. though I'd like to think he had at least a tumble with anyone interested that happened after the whole Brood Mother thing and Bioware just didn't give us it.

I felt this way too. I'm fine with him being bi, but I did see it as a difference from Awakening. Anders seemed very much the kind of guy that I would label as a skirt chaser. In Awakening, when he told my warden about he plot against her, it was all "yep, he found another girl to flirt with." To me, the joke with Nate was him being confident. I know part of it was assumptions on my part, but I still feel like maybe he was trying to hide it (which makes me sad).

Okay, skimming past I read that as "raging nerd hard on." So, logically, that is how your friend really feels for the game. Unfortunately it's a shameboner and he cannot admit to it. Thus he says he hates it. He hates it so much he needs to "punish" himself again and again and again.

That comic doesn't work for me, because he seemed cutely charmed by the offer. That "Hmmm, maybe I'm closer to the dream than I realize" was obviously deflection, but not of the "never gonna happen, chica" variety. More of the "I think you're just trying to make me feel better, and I appreciate it" type.
