LOL. So true. Anders' dad is crazy. According to him, Anders was an infant boy given to him as a curse for the petty sins he committed. Needs a straightjacket ASAP.

I hear Disney's Hercules is quite a popular source of knowledge concerning classical antiquity.

I think it is time for guessing the real name of Anders again.

Ah the benefits of a classical education...

I had a classical education and we never covered that! Although we did talk about lesbos more than was probably healthy in an all girls school . . .

@Kawamura: *whoosh* I believe that has just gone straight over my head. Sorry!

Axe wound is a rather crude and ugly euphemism for female genitalia.

All good water bottles need to have a bike attachment. :o

@Kawamura: Ah, I had a sneaky feeling that might have been it, but the 'how mortal' comment made me think I was missing something. I really wish I had been ignorant of that particular euphemism though. Ugh . . .

Hardly. That's a very common thought process in human cultures.

Magic, like many other "abnormalities" are often looked upon as a sign that the parents did something wrong.

Isabela's a bit of a 'town bike', and I think she could find a way to attach it.

Or it's very possible that his dad was another sad case of nuttiness driven by extreme and blind faith. That also happens to a few people in the world, unfortunately.

Looking at this again I can't help thinking that maybe all gnomes secretly look like that underneath.

This knowledge will haunt me for the rest of my life.

That comic doesn't work for me, because he seemed cutely charmed by the offer. That "Hmmm, maybe I'm closer to the dream than I realize" was obviously deflection, but not of the "never gonna happen, chica" variety. More of the "I think you're just trying to make me feel better, and I appreciate it" type.

This.

If anything, instead of feeling bad about Anders not being interested, I usually felt like he was really interested but didn't go for it because he didn't believe the Warden was serious. I'm sure it makes less sense for single Wardens, but all my Wardens were spoken for. I felt especially mean flirting as my canon Cousland married to Alistair. Anders knew they were married, so he knew the only person flirting with him at the time wasn't actually flirting in earnest. Thus poor Anders was all, FOREVER ALONE in my games.

That's kind of the impression I got from my one (so far) Awakening playthrough. That particular exchange, to me, sounded like he could have tried something with the Warden if the circumstances had been different (if the Warden hadn't been his Commander and spoken for). The fact that he also got the love-bug in that playthrough (his affection meter switched to "Love" after I did his personal quest) helped to reinforce that impression.

Concerning his sexuality, I have no problem with him being bi, but I do get the impression that he was originally designed as straight. Or, at least, the Zev kind: bi with a preference for women. He does default to "pretty girl" in that particular banter, so to me, that would indicate an instinctive preference for women. Similarly, I never got the feeling that he was actually flirting with Nate. Just teasing him. So the Karl business did puzzle me a bit when I first heard about it. Then again, there's no rule whereby you have to have had your first sexual experience with your preferred gender, so...mazel tov and all that.

Anyways, I agree that the only reasonable way for BW to deal with romance demands is to make all (or at least the majority) of the LIs bi. It may not be ideal, but I don't see a better way of doing it.

EDIT: My god, this thread is like the Tali-thread in its glory days (well, not quite, but almost). The speed, I can't keep uuuuup!

I really don't think so. It may seem odd to us in our culture, but I do know people even now who think that way.

People are very cause-effect minded. We like patterns and things to make sense. Magic being an unhappy accident is a common idea, but I imagine very many people in that world would see the deformity as being a sign of someone's sinning. It's superstituous, but one doesn't have to be a raging nutter to be superstious.

"Ser" is a gender neutral form of address in DA, so you could use it for a girl kitty, too.

You never really need an excuse to draw half naked Anders. It just begs to be in existence.
