Character hate threads I believe are fine. Just as long as it doesn't devolve into a flame war. I don't mind it to be honest. I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one here who wants to kill Anders once in a while.

Fenris has a point though. He killed those people of his own free will.

Anders couldn't control himself.

Fenris isn't being hypocritical in that situation (though he is in others.)Like he says "I did that at the beheast of no demon."

I'd say that Fenris' rage controls him just as much as Justice controls Anders during Dissent, at least during A Bitter Pill and Alone. He's certainly not thinking rationally when he wants to kill Varania.

@Miri I want to kiss you IRL. Just so you know.

\\Hmmm... So Fenris, due to being emotionally unstable, is just as controlled by his hate as Anders is by Justice?  Interesting idea.  I think it has some merit.

But seriously...I went to check the thread that "inspired" this, and someone would have even killed Bethany, resurrect her with a spirit, and kill her all over again in different ways, as a public show in Kirkwall?
What did Bethany do...maybe you didn't like her, but hate her is...I don't know, impossible, in one act o.O She doesn't say or do anything so strong to provoke such hate.

Some people...I don't even want to know them from AFAR.

He seemed in control of himself to me. Just really pissed off. He doesn't react in shock or horror at what he almost did. It's more of a "Get out of my face." reaction (off the strength of Hawke) to her he doesn't get suckerpunched until she tells him about him competing for the markings and he doesn't seem to give a squat about her afterwards. She may not be physically dead in that situation but I have a feeling she's pretty dead to him. The reaction to Vaernia and Hardriana isn't something he usually wouldn't do. It's pretty in character for him to attack them.

He has a lot of anger but it doesn't control him like Justice does Anders.

You are definitely not.  I love Anders to pieces, but god did he completely derail my Hawke's life.  She would've been so much better off without him.

QFT
How can ANYONE hate Bethany.  I am in freaking love with her.  (Not Hawke, ME.)  Why, oh why did Bioware have to make the most attractive female character in the whole game our sister?  (I have some fun ideas for Bethany later in my fic)

I think there is a definite parallel. Fenris basically admits as much several times. "It's a sickness, this hate. This dark growth inside me that I can't ever get rid of, and they put it there!"

That said, I think Fenris has a better chance of ultimately overcoming his hate than Anders has of controlling Justice.

@LT123 I RAGED at Elthina and Cullen about that. Hello, Lady, he was a psychotic rapist who had plans to institute a mage holocaust, I think you're missing the POINT.

He was a....rapist?
HOW AM I MISSING THESE THINGS?

He *might* be a rapist.  Anders says some templars are rapists, and Alrik is sadistic.  Alrik tells Ella she will do anything for him.  The Tranquil mage in the Gallows, who got tranq'd for an "inappropriate relationship", says she "belongs to Ser Alrik now".  I think that's where all the "ZOMG Alrik rapes Tranquils" comes from.  I'm not convinced.  I bet he rapes apprentices, then threatens them with Tranquility if they tell.  I really don't see a rapist getting much satisfaction from raping a Tranquil, since they don't feel emotional trauma.  Also, the Tranquil want to abide by rules, and I'm sure they still know rape is very much "against the rules".  He probably does derive immense satisfaction from watching former rebels toe the line, like Karl when used as bait for Anders.

I wonder if all the disaster could have been averted if Elthina took the mages' side.

Unless she'd acted before Dumar's death, there was no way that was ending pretty for anyone.  By Act 3, the Divine was already seriously considering an Exalted March, no matter what Hawke and Seb say to Leliana.  Meredith was nutters and called for the Right of Annulment long before the Chantry explosion.  I got a feeling of inevitability from Act 3.

Now if she'd acted sooner, before everything got really bad, she could've replaced Meredith and instituted reforms.  That would've gone a LONG way toward alleviating the tension in Kirkwall.

And it really would have been solved if she hadn't promoted Petrice to Mother.    I think, of all the things that she did, that had the biggest reprecussion and ramifications over what happens in the game.  The Arishok wouldn't have gotten bent out of shape over the chaos in Kirkwall and his men being murdered.  Dumas wouldn't have gotten his head chopped off by a pissed off Arishok.  Dumas would then still be Viscount of Kirkwall and would have been an offical buffer between Orsino and Meredith so Elthina wouldn't have to do all the heavy lifting and then Anders would have felt as if he has been pushed to the edge to the point where he blew up the church.

So...yeah.

lol.

On that note I have to play my good guy mage Mal. Killing Anders is gonna tear him apart. :(

Edit: I have to say if Anders templar rivalrymance ending is good for something it's making Hawke getting arrested make sense.

Meredith arresting you because you let Anders live makes far more sense than her arresting you for helping her.

I admit, I killed him in my siding with Templars playthrough.  My Hawke wasn't gleeful but he was massively angry.  I was yelling 'I'm so sorry!!' at the screen, though.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png[/smilie]

I also took a cap of the murderknife in hand and posted it on my wow guild's forums with the line 'I hope you're happy now.' as they'd been giving me grief for the entire playthrough over me not being able to do it.  Heartless sods said I'd photoshopped it. Oh Miri, that's wonderful!

I possibly shouldn't have strayed from the sanctum of this thread. But the image of Elthina riding the Chantry door like a surfboard did tickle me. Sort of like the Queen speaking street.

Some people really are just vitriolic in their hatred of Anders. I just don't understand how anyone could feel that about anything ever. *sigh*

Is it just me or do a lot of the people who spew all this hate for certain NPC's, actually care about other NPC's opinions on their Hawkes? And by other NPC's I mean the Chantry, The Mages, The Templars, and general Kirkwall Populace, but mostly the bolded, because half the quests you do in Kirkwall can have a totally negative effect on Kirkwall Populace as well (I.e slavers, demon and bloodmage deals, outright killing for the Lulz). I guess this is just another effect of wanting to be the Paragon with Shining Blue Wings Godly Hero?

My Hawke in the end of Act 3 was more concerned with saving her sister, saving the mages, and when out of Kirkwall, beating the living hell out of Anders for not letting her in on it.

Edit: And really I don't hate anyone npc in this game, dislike yes, but hate?
