People want to murder Bethany? Why? Poor girl. At worst she's boring. Certainly not a murderable offense. Plus, the whole point of Bethany is to kick in your protective instincts.

Poor Beth. I can understand killing Anders (even if I don't quite get the levels of pure hatred) but Bethany. D: I wuv her. She kind of reminds me of my sister.

Whut?!  Why would anyone want to murder Bethany?

This is bad enough.

Worst part is she just accepts it. She's not even angry. :(

I don't want to kill Bethany, exactly, but I wish I could push her in front of Carver on my non-mage playthroughs.

Most people don't care for terrorism I think that may have something to do with the hatred for him.=]

I don't think I ever said I don't understand why people would hate him. I just said I don't understand the level of hate some people have.

I think the problem with separating Justice and Anders after the events of DA2 would be the damage done to Anders' psyche. My guess is that it would be a pretty severe to fatal shock to his system at worse, and deeply traumatic at best.

And this is assuming that Justice will go. A rivaled Anders who sided with the templars would be as much of the Enemy as Meredith ever was. Justice might dig in and take Anders down with him if he thinks that Anders will be a tool for "injustice" without him.

Whyyyyyy did I watch that Bethany video? *cries*

Because they play video games just to find someone to hate, obviously.
WTF did that poor girl do?
"SHE TALKED TO TERRORIST ANDERS! MUST.KILL.NOW!"

I don't think I'm going to leave the safety of this thread for awhile if that's the kind of thing they're on about elsewhere.

Repeat posting by honestlies for comfort.

Honestly, I think a lot of it is meta, and unrelated to Anders at all.

DA2 opens up a lot of roleplaying in terms of the relationships, defining the protagonist, the emotional punch, etc.  However, it does limit player agency in terms of affecting the world.  Anders is the best example; the decision to spark a violent revolution usually rests in the hands of the player.  This time, it didn't: Anders took the reins, and I'll bet you anything that's at least part of why folks are pissed.

The terrorism thing confuses me.
I think people try to link it to real world scenarios too much, like making the Chantry a church and Anders as an example of an extremist bomber.

People forget that most revolutions don't happen without lots of people- innocent people too- being killed.

Well I view him as a terrorist sure I see something like what is going on in Libya as a revolution but that's me.:innocent:

Some people really are just vitriolic in their hatred of Anders. I just don't understand how anyone could feel that about anything ever. *sigh*

Well it's not that hard to hate someone to the point of wanting to kill them it's a human thing after all but for me Anders is not real/not worth it so I have no real hatred for him.

It's not that. I understand that it's human and whatnot to hate things, but I don't understand the level of hatred.

I've had people do some pretty godawful things to me, but I wouldn't say I hate any of them. Perhaps that's why I can't understand it in relation to a fictional character.

Edit: Oops, ninja'd by Yami. That was practically word for word!

Anders is a terrorist.

No matter how "noble" his intentions were he committed a terrorist action.

I still love his crazy self but he's a terrorist. That's not changing. He blew up a church (center of power or no) to force a war. He planned on Meredith's slaughter to inspire other mages to fight. (unless he really was delusional enough to believe all those mages could stand up to the army of templars with few casulties without him helping them since he expected to kick the bucket.) He dragged innocent people into *his* battle.

Ugh I still want to strangle him for doing that. He had a lot of nerve.

Mostly though I'm irked that Hawke doesn't try to expost the abuses already going on. <_<

That's so depressing. I mean, she's your freaking sister and Hawke is so cold about it. Not to mention, Bethany is about one of the best examples of a good mage. She never does anything wrong in the game. Except live apparently. <_<

Honestly, I don't know if I'll ever be able to complete, much less attempt a rival run with Anders. I've sat and watched the lovely arguments on either side in this thread, which is better for him, which is enabling or fracturing his character, and -I don't know-. I just know I romanced the guy on my first run and then we got to the Gallows and I was all bouncy with wine and BOOM.

And I must be terrible 'cause my brain only scrambled to think of a way to protect him, at any cost.

Hahaha. Those are both hilarious.

know, comics aside, I'm sure Hawke and Anders traumatized everyone else in the house. Well, at least if the romance scene triggered with the door open.

You can thank UpsettingShorts ranting for that. I finally saw the light. And ra forbid the smirk on his face if he reads that bit. <_<  Yes yes you were right Upsetting. About that nothing else.

Wonder if we count as being in a rivalry? Hm...probably not.

most of the time? Well duh I'm still a fangirl Geth. :P I'm just a different brand of crazy.

Who apparently digs abusive relationships in fiction.

I think that's debatable--such a loaded term and I know the topic's been beaten to death-- but I'm gonna stop right there before UpsettingShorts swoops in and cuts me up with impossibly awesome logic. And swooping is bad.

But I agree his actions were absolutely monstrous.

Poor Sandal/Bodahn/Orana/Mother.
LMFAO
Leandra: He's making the funniest noises. Maybe I should go check on him.
Bodahn: Ohhh I'm not sure that's a good idea...
Leandra: But what if he's choking or something?
Orana: :?
Bodahn: I'm sure he would request help if he were.
Leandra: I'm going to go check on him.
Bodahn: :(
