Bombs too... I don't remember if the Tar bombs slow him appreciably enough to be useful, but fire bombs are at least extra damage. >.<

He's stun resistant and runs at the same speed as you. It's a colossal chore as an archer.
I saw this hilarious youtube that was about 20 minutes long. And the guy cut parts out.
I suggest that you pray. And not to the Maker, he'll just ignore you until you convert the whole entire freaking world to him. I suggest the mysterious one known as "developer console". I suggest you ask for his miracle called killallhostiles.

@SomeGeth - Many folks in this thread have repeated themselves over and over when this topic periodically comes up. I know I have, and I'm very much a newcomer. So I refrain from it now so as not to bore the old hands with the umpteenth reiteration of my points. Might chime in if enough new folks started it up again, since the old hands did me that courtesy.
Pretty much this. I don't mind if newer folks rehash these arguments. In fact, I quite enjoy seeing new takes on things. However, I don't really feel compelled- myself- to go through arguments I've gone through a lot already, such as friend/rivalry, chantry bombing, etc.

You can get a few shots in whilst he's doing his charge/whirlwind thing, but yes. I generally just refuse his duel and fight the entire room, which is far less tiresome.
(Also Isabela helps, if present. Meaning you get an uncontrollable but indestructible fifth party member)

I don't see the blowing up the Chantry as ambiguous at all honestly.
Anders might believe he had good reasons for doing it but the action itself is pretty clear.
That might just be me though. It's pretty clear cut. He blew up the Chantry to give someone insane a free pass to start a massacre on the *hopes* that it would provoke a war.
Maybe if Hawke's friends with Anders one might get the sense he expected Hawke to help with the mages but that would only get Hawke in danger as well. He was also expecting to be killed so he can't even help with his so called resistance. Just expects to be lauded as a martyr for mage freedom.
I can't see that action in a good light. Heck the more I think about it the uglier it gets and the angrier I get at Anders.
That said it is just my interpretation so...*shrugs*

I learned a new word, yay! I'd say someone could agree with consequentialism, but argue that Anders had other, better options.

"Better" is yet to be seen. If his actions truly do lead to the liberation of mages, it's going to be difficult to look back on 1000 years of oppression and say "this could have been avoided".CatOfEvilGenius wrote...

There are in-game examples already; recall the blood mage in the Circle tower who says something like "Andraste didn't write the Imperium a strongly worded letter." We can speculate as to whether or not she could have changed the world with a strongly worded letter, but she didn't, and her followers have no trouble justifying the bloodshed that doubtlessly occurred for her to accomplish what she did. Anders will be no different.
Of course, if his actions don't lead to anything, he'll just be Hitler.

Anders didn't head an army, isn't a general and isn't a focal point for the mages (Hawke is). All he did was blow up a Chantry and set off Meredith. It was the mages themselves that decided to rebel afterwards. He lit a match and threw it hoping it'd ignite. Nothing more nothing less. If freedom is gained or lost it'll have nothing to do with him. He had no game plan other than "freedom." and blowing up said Chantry and fighting. That's it. At best he's idealistic at worst an idiot. He didn't help the mages gain their freedom. They had to do that on their own. Let's not even mention the horrible PR he gave apostates by blowing up said Chantry. Meredith may look a monster for trying to kill the innocent mages but he doesn't look any better for blowing the Chantry up.
This is a pretty good post on how his "help" wasn't much help at all
Camenae wrote...
I think I agree with Medhia Nox. What counts as "winning" for the mages? If "winning" is stirring up rebellion, causing change, any change whatsoever, then I suppose the mages won. But if "winning" is establishing a different system, where mages somehow peacefully co-exist with the non-magical folks...Of course everything is speculation at this point, but I just don't see how the mage rebellion can possibly "win" without beating the common Muggles into submission.
With any rebellion, revolution, or any military action whatsoever, logistics is crucial. A man marches on his stomach. Unless the mages don't eat, don't drink, don't need clothing for different types of weather, etc. or can conjure every single last thing they need (which I suppose is possible), how can they possibly gain any type of long-term success without at least the tacit cooperation of the commoners?
No matter how the player views the Chantry/Andrastian faith, I think the average person in Thedas is not going to take the destruction of a major symbol of their faith very well. And if the commoners are openly hostile to mages, then I do not see this minority holding out for very long, at least not without fully utilizing the power differential (ie their magic) to force cooperation. And I'm guessing that is not their goal.
He's not Andraste nor is he Hilter. Both had far more impact than he did or will.
Any good that results form Anders actions will happen in spite of them. Seeing as Anders was so insistant on his mages vs everyone else POV. "Maybe you won't be safe." among other things. He has a very black and white view of mages. If they're going to get anywhere they need the people's support. The same people he claims that mages simply want to live among. Can't do that if the parties distrust and are unwilling to work together.

I was always convinced that he was smirking as soon as he'd gotten over the shock. The one time I frapsed it he wasn't in the party as I was doing it for Izzy's reaction, dammit. Must go redo with him in there this time.

Haha yeah. I have another shot of Varric doing a total, "jaw landing in the Deep Roads somewhere".
I thought about adding speech bubbles, but at the end of the day those expressions speak for themselves.
The things my Hawke is thinking in that moment.
