I want to get a kitty soon. I can't think of a better name than Ser Pounce A-Lot. Too epic. Anders is a genius.

Just started Anders "Justice" quest on my Fenmancer Rogue, and man I could hear the kitties hissing. He just confronted Zelda about Fenris, who then gave his own two cents of Anders being a "A mage and a hypocrite, what company you keep."

I am wondering though, if Anders was de-Justified, or was DAA Anders when they first met, do you think their relationship would still be so filled with animosity, or would it resemble something like what Nate and Anders had?

I find it really difficult to pin how Varric feels about Anders. Certainly no-one but Bethany seems to be actually friends with the guy... possibly Varric but he's sort of like that with everyone. Fenris, Sebastian. They both dislike him. Merrill is harder to gauge but he obviously doesn't like her. Aveline seems to find him annoying and Isabela... well, who knows what Isabela sees in anyone beyond a butt to grab. Although as I've said, she did surprise me in her softer moments.

I wonder how many of them would be friends with the guy if not for the fact that he's pushing for mage freedom, actually. Varric, at least, seemed to find having Anders around fun (one of the saddest things in banter, for me, was Varric saying that "You're no fun anymore, Blondie" or something to that effect), and they were trading stories over drinks in the Hanged Man, so I do think Varric at least didn't mind hanging out with Anders in his free time.

Carver doesn't like Anders because "he won't shut up about [being a mage]"; Fenris probably doesn't like Anders because he's a mage pushing for mage freedom. Sebastian's pro-Chantry views clash badly with Anders' irreverence and pro-mage views, and the fact that Anders has a lot of fun poking at him about the belt buckle probably doesn't help. I would be genuinely surprised if Merrill likes him, because Anders says the harshest things possible to her at the worst possible times. (Anders, I'm very fond of you, but you were an absolute jerk to Merrill, to say the least.)

I think there would be less animosity. Anders' radical views, especially considering the people you associate with, aren't the kind that will endear him to most people in your party. DAA Anders always did have a bit of a streak of 'mage pride' to me, but he never did harp on it the way DA2 Anders does, nor was he actually fighting for mage freedom.

I don't, not if you romance him at least. He just took drastic mesures to ensure they would have a 'revolution'. And there is no peaceful revolution that anyone has heard of...at least large scaled one.

I'm not saying I think he's a villain. I'm just saying that if he ever returns it's much more likely it'll be as a villain than as a companion, because the chances of him returning as a companion are pretty much zero unfortunately.

At the moment we don't even know if DA3 will feature Hawke or not, but if it does and if  Anders was the LI I hope he shows up in the beginning at least.

How will he be a villan? He is just compelled to fight the opression of mages. DA3 has to deal with someone fixing the world at war and introducting a new character would be troublesome, I also think it will probably take place in Orlais because the Chantry has power there the most and since Sandal has been in ever dragonage and it feels like we're following him and Bodahn said he was going to Orlais.... it would be funny if Sandal was the answer to it all... lol but most unlikely...

I think Varric likes Anders well enough.  Their banter is pretty friendly, like them joking around about what to do to Bartrand, and he does his best to protect Anders from the Coterie and the gangs.  You could certainly argue that he's only doing the latter as a favor to Hawke, but since you can easily role-play a Hawke that hates Anders's guts, it's probably safer to assume that Varric likes Blondie enough to want to keep him safe. 

That doesn't mean he's blind to Anders's issues, since he seems a bit wary if Hawke gets into a relationship with him.

Well that's the thing isn't it? A lot of their animosity towards him seems to stem from the whole mage thing, and his cause. I have wondered if he was Awakening Anders still, would they dislike him so much? I imagine they'd see him as a male Isabela really. Which would probably rile Aveline up at least.

I think Varric has his own form of softness for Anders. Not in the same way he cares about Merrill, who spends most of her time being completely out of her element, but Anders shows flashes of being a regular dude from time to time. Varric's not made out of stone, and I can see him feeling sympathy and warmth to a worn out young man (as I imagine Varric to be a bit older, though I could be wrong). Remember that Anders isn't just the guy who bombed the Chantry; he's also the man who worked and lived in destitute surroundings to bring healing and comfort to the distressed and displaced. I doubt Varric would have an issue with that.

Rofl, my canon Warden ended up being a female dwarf. I think they were the same height xD Luckily, the dog that pesters my life is a shih tzu, so when it shows up on my bed or in places unwanted it's easy to move away.

The funniest thing about Ser Pounce-a-lot in Awakening was that in the banters all meowing noises came out of Anders' mouth (and on occasion the mouth of the person he was talking to).

Same. I never thought Varric disliked Anders per se, but I'm not really sure I'd put many of the companions as friends with each other. Certainly sometimes it seems like they all stick together purely for Hawke. Reminds me of KotOR 2.

...to use the alignment system which doesn't really come into play in DA: Aveline's very much a Lawful Good character. She wants to keep the peace by enforcing the law. Anders is very much a rule breaker, which would annoy her anyway. I think my Hawke annoyed her quite a bit, and my Hawke isn't nearly as much of a rule-breaker as Anders is.

I do think, in general, that most of the characters would have at least felt less animosity towards DAA Anders - because, at the very least, DAA Anders has more tact overall. DA2 Anders tends to harp on the mage thing even when it's not prudent to - Carver's sensitive about the fact that he's the non-mage child, and Anders goes out of the way to point it out. Fenris doesn't like mages because of his experiences in Tevinter, but you can romance him as a mage!Hawke, so I would assume he's open to changing his opinion.

Sebastian... I don't know. I think Sebastian and Anders wouldn't get along either way - Anders is too irreverent and Sebastian's too devout to get along with someone with that level of irreverence, IMO. But that's just my interpretation.

I think Anders and Varric are legitimately friends and, besides Bethany, Varric is the only companion Anders likes unreservedly.

I'm going to have to do a playthrough where Fenris/Anders/Merrill are never in the same party. I just heard the Fenris/Anders "Do you still think all mages are weak?" banter again and it breaks me every time. Anders sounds so unhinged.

Sebastian... I don't know. I think Sebastian and Anders wouldn't get along either way - Anders is too irreverent and Sebastian's too devout to get along with someone with that level of irreverence, IMO.

Well, Isabela and Sebastian get along decently and it's hard to have less reverence than she does.

I'm not saying he will be a villain, just that it's more likely he'll be a villain than a companion. But if he does come back and if DA3 is still about templars/mages chances are he'll just be a friendly NPC if you side with mages and an opposing NPC if you side with templars.

Honestly I just want some romance conclusion. Him and Hawke running away is fine and all, but then what? I'd like to think that that's open to interpretation, but if there is a DA3 and if Hawke is the main character than there will be a canon. Terrible having to wait years for it.
