Hmm, the Wynne thing has screwed up my interpretation. Though not entirely. Anders is still a self-righteous hypocritical abomination of Vengeance, heh.

oh, don't give up so quick. are we positive she's fully posessed or just has a more perminent connection to Faith?

What was the nature of the spirit she became associated with?  I forget.  Like, what concept was it?

She doesn't know, but thinks it's Faith. Perhaps the level of corruption of the spirit depends on the host. Wynne strikes me as being emotionally balanced, if nothing else.

I think she has a better chance of not becoming a demon-possessed abomination, but being possessed by a spirit is no less dangerous than a demon.  You can be a zealot for a good cause.

aaaaaaand i stopped agreeing with you. And you know, i always assumed that it was Ander's idea to join up. has anything said otherwise?

No, actually, Justice approached him about it.  And Nate was the one in Awakening who talked about Justice taking a living host.

IT'S ALL NATE'S FAAAAULT *goes after him with torches and pitchforks*

Anders more or less agreed because 1) He thought Justice needed a host to keep on living, and 2) He was pretty fed up with the world.

You forgot 3) "it seemed like a good idea at the time."

ipdg, you missed the point I was making entirely.

The point is that a war can be judged before it starts. The Iraq War was posed as an example of a war that was easily and frequently judged before it started.

The reason the comparison works isn't because the two conflicts are similar, they aren't. The reason making that distinction is important is because the very discussion is about Anders' justification and his justification only. Discussions about the outcome are relevant to a broader, less focused discussion, but I'm not trying to have one of those. The example demonstrates that you don't need to have one at all in order to examine a cause for going to war on the case presented alone.

I know it can be judged (and obviously will be judged in the same way in-world), but those judgments are inevitably based on conjecture. I'd even say the Iraq war judgments were premature in the same way making a judgment about Anders's actions are, but there are obviously strong motivations for making a judgment about something when it affects real people personally in a way that is significantly different from making a judgment about a video game character in a world which is dictated by writers' perogative and Rule of Cool more than logic.

I'm not so much giving up as recognizing the relationship between Fade spirits and mortals is more nuanced and complicated than my argument - as of this moment - is prepared to accomodate.

I'll limit myself to saying I accept the distinction you're drawing, and point out that I enjoy the kind of questions Anders' actions raise most by treating them as if they were equally serious.  Hence being Mr. Serious regarding Anders, heh.

I figured it was a joint effort between Nathaniel and Justice on the spirit finally joining up with Anders. Justice because of of him asking why Anders didn't do more for follow mages, and Nath because his conversations with Justice in Awakenings.

Those events got the seed planted in Anders' head, and when Justice gave Aura her husband's body back, the two had a whole 'Well it seemed like a good idea at the time' moment. Or at lease, that's how I like to see it.

Also Wynne calls her spirit Faith, but I hardly paid much attention to her because she makes me grind my teach with her whole 'mentoring' thing back in DAO.

well they certainly discussed it. no record of the conversation though. that was just  my impression from somewhere, i may well be wrong.
but i don't believe anders would just ask a spirit to inhabit him. i imagine justice came up with the idea to merge with anders specifically. but that is just me imagining.

justice must have had a reason to want to do this, other than bioware made him. presumably because it's better than a rotting corpse or to gain access to anders' powers in the classic abomination way.

Just jumping in here, will probably get ninja'd. Oh well.

Wasn't Wynne's spirit sustaining her from the fade, and basically preventing her death? Whereas Justice is trapped outside the fade and forced into a decaying body. Perhaps the difference is that Justice is cut off from the fade partially? That doesn't make any sense with Feynriel's quest, so IDK. Just a thought.

Last night on my mostly purple(mixed with red) female mage PT, Fenris was in the party, didn't say a WORD, and the Arishok told me I was basa whatever and offered to duel me. No mention of gender. The only difference is, this is the first character that told him that she would not surrender the elves either.

So... IDK. He WILL challenge a female to dueling without mentioning their gender. I'm just not sure what the certain set of circumstances is.

This means you've managed to earn the Arishok's respect before that final confrontation.  There are certains steps you must have done to do that like being honest with him about what you've done i.e. killing Aarvarad, not hiding the bodies and then telling him what happened.  With the Arishok, it's all about being up front and honest.  ^_^

When you earn this, the "Worthy Rival" Achievement/Trophy should unlock.

EDIT:  Link to the wiki.

Well, I unlocked that with my rogue PT--somehow, smartass that he was, but I would have sworn Fenris still had to ask him about the duel. Maybe not. But I'm amazed this character managed it, considering she veers between smartass and hardass and that's about it. She was honest though.

I doubt Justice wanted to go back to the Fade after the events of Awakening.

I can't recall for sure, but I'm pretty sure he had a conversation with the Warden about 'there being more to this place that what spirits thought about it' and wanting to experience more of this 'world of flesh'

Because he thought the subjugation of the mages was unjust, and he recognized Anders as the go-to guy for this.   He had no other source of information besides Anders, and he resonated with Anders's feelings.   He harped on Anders so much in Awakening, I'm surprised he didn't try convincing him right then and there.

Well, of course. I just have no idea what her spirit's deal is. It seems rather single-mindedly determined to protect Wynne and help her without having much of an own agenda like Justice does.

Edited for spelling.

DG says spirits meld with their hosts  (like with Wynne). They do not possess like a demon does. You can read that here along with other comments on what is a demon.

I'll be back with a darker, sexier, and more mature fade spirit argument in a sequel - worry not.

So the method of corruption is how they are dissimilar?

Qunari like hardass.  PMS Hawke even got the mercenary guy to fight with her agains the Tal Vashoth.  Almost reason enough to play an aggressive character right there.
