I thought that Wynne's spirit actually did merge with her when she was about to die, in order to save her life. She does have an ability called "Vessel of the Spirit", after all. Am I misremembering things?

I thought it was a merge too, but then didn't she describe the spirit as "Fading" from her? That sounds more like a connection because justice certainly wasn't about to fade anywhere

also, all this talk of possessions and merges and no one's made an innuendo? i'm almost ashamed for you guys. where's your sense of depravity!

Hm...yeah I coud've sworn she said the spirit faded a little more either every day or each time it helped her. I forget which.

Wasn't she worried she'd exhaust the spirit's power, thus killing both herself and the spirit?

Edit: Kitteh!

He wasn't the second son anymore once my Hawke was through with his personal quest in Act 2

Had to get full rivalary with Seb *somehow*

ooh, he's moving up in the world along with hawke! he's going to hate being the oldest. he'll have to attend the merchants guild meetings more often

Not in my play through. Anders did is magic finger wave thing and we had him committed :/

I think the main difference between Justice and Wynne's spirit is that it is still in the Fade.  I firmly believe that spirits aren't meant to fully cross over in this world and that is in part the reason why things go so terribly.  Spirit Healer's summon "benevolent" spirits from the beyond the veil, they aren't usually present in the world already.

I got the same impression as Queen-of-Stuff.  "Vessel" really implies Wynne is bodily hosting the spirit.  However, I don't think hosting starts until you do some of Wynne's quests.  She doesn't start with the Vessel ability, but gains it after that "everyone falls but Wynne" darkspawn battle.  I think the Fade spirit brought her back to life in the Circle, but did not yet merge with her at that point.  Then again, Wynne's Vessel power is temporary.  So maybe she's only "channeling" the spirit, rather than hosting it?

I wonder how much of this Gaider decided when writing DAO, and how much he decides as he goes along, somewhat like the writers for Battlestar Galactica.  They did not have Cylon lore all figured out at the start, but it all worked out quite well.  Anyone know if Gaider makes "just in time" canon decisions?

The Veil was pretty thin there at the Circle when crap went down, so I imagine it could have slipped through.  Perhaps it was attracted by Wynne's devotion to protecting the mages there and having "faith" that not everything was lost, even when the Templars were sending off for the Right of Annulment.

But Faith can be corrupted, too, without her even realizing it.

According to Wynne, this particulary spirit has been watching over her since childhood. She's not even sure it is a spirit of Faith - she only thinks it is. It never expresses any agency of its own other than keeping Wynne safe, so it's impossible to say.

And your average non-mage is somehow smarter? They're all people and they come from the same place.

Yeah I'd say the average mage is at least more educated than the population at large.

Can't be that smart. They let the templars charge at them from a funnelled opening and didn't attack until 3 of them had been cut down.

Well they aren't soldiers.  I'm not sure which part you're referring to, but there's fear involved too.  When people panic they do a lot of dumb things- mage or not.

I'm a slow typer so I was that post while you guys had already posted that link and moved on...hehe.  I'm not sure I fully understand the difference between melding and possession in the sense that it's unclear what happens to Anders.  Uldred was possessed.  He no longer ceased to be who he was.  Anders...there are still elements of Anders that remain himself in Act I and in some of Act II.

The possession versus merging thing makes sense in light of this conversation:

Nathaniel: What if you found a living body to possess?
Justice
: Even if I knew how, I would not possess the living. Such is an act for demons.
Nathaniel
: What if the person were willing?
Justice
: Why would a mortal ever allow such a thing?
Nathaniel
: For life. For love. Perhaps together, you
can do what they cannot do alone. If you gave instead of taking, I would
consider you no demon.
[b]Justice
: It is...something to consider. Thank you, Nathaniel.

I suppose the question is...is Justice/Vengeance taking now?  Is that what makes the difference?

I got the feeling that activating Wyne's Vessel of the Spirit"  ability is similar to activating Vengeance Mode with Anders

Romanced Anders does leave a Hawke who makes the deal with that demon in Night Terrors quest.

wait, really? Nice! Do any of the others have breaking points?

I did just remember..

Apparently on the rival path, when you get to the point with him reading you his manifesto, if you take the top right "You make good points" option that is supposed to break the romance.

I haven't done this and have no idea what is said. But I may be wrong, it was just something I had read.

Now that we've spoken about getting tied up in this context, do we have any spare rope in this thread?
