Lyrium made Meredith go crazy(er) and Bartram go nuts. Looks like it has the opposite effect on normal people.

Mmm...that may just be due to the idol's unique properties.  Remember that Bartrand's a dwarf; they live underground with the stuff in the rocks, and evolved a resistance to it.  It had to be some pretty potent lyrium to addle his brains.  And Meredith's a templar; she's been exposed to normal lyrium her whole life too.

Too bad they never said what was unique about it other that it was "pure lyrium. magic. THE BAD KIND."

Sounds like we both got writer's block at the same time.  I hope you find some inspiration somewhere.  I really can't wait.

Basically (In DA2) without the use of blood magic or being possessed by a demon mages don't stand a chance against templars. What kind of templars would they be if they couldn't rush a pike twirling mage and take him down while blocking his mage powers and draining him of mana?

I was upset about not being able to be an arcane warrior. Like I really wanted to try to fight off a shield and sword with my staff or anybody with a bigger blade.  Point in fact, is in the fade when Fenris turns against my mage pc he took down Anders first and then headed for my mage pc and I was done for in no time flat; and he's not even a bloody templar!

I think Fenris defeating you had more to do with Fenris being a beast than you being a mage.

He did the same thing to my Rogue Hawke. :crying:

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

I'm good at working with animals, writing, and cooking.
I can't dance to save my damn life, and I respect those who can. It takes a lot of concentration and dexterity.
Tried to dance once at a party and everyone was like, "No. Please...just stop." And I was like, "It's alright, I'm pretty sure I just threw my back out anyway."

Because a lot of the mages (and even the Warden mage) seem to be taught attack spells and defensive spells. Mages are drafted into the armies as needed.

Even in Origins you have mages sparring each other (one of the teachers is tossing fireballs at a appretenice with arcane shield up a weak fireball (on purpose so not to kill the student).

From a distance the mages could've spammed them with spells and forced the templars on the defensive. They can *resist* magical attacks well not completely nullify them (not without using that ability of theirs). They can drain mana but I have a feeling they need to be close to do that. (At least Meredith needed to be right on top of the Saaerbas before she could stop its attack.)

As for Anders. Seeing as he was perfectly okay with dying and leaving them to dry I doubt he thought about them period other than as a furthering of his goal.

You are right they are taught the basics. What I meant was that they more than likely haven't had the oportunity for advanced studies in it and/or experience in combat.

The key to a successful mage in DA2 is remaining in the distance.

You may have been right that the resistence movement Anders was involved in was to further his own goals but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have taken the time to arm his fellow rebels with additional skills if they needed it. No blood magic though for him. We don't see it in the game but he does make comments about helping other mages escape the circle and templar/chantry influence.

You should write about The Arishok and the very bad console cheat battle again. It's so epic.

Gaider clarified on the forums that it's special kind of lyrium. We're just not supposed to know at this point how special exactly.

Hell yes. That's what the game was lacking. It would've given mages the ability to enhance their weapons and heavy armor if Arcane Warriors were still around. I was getting sick and tired of desperate mages succumbing to blood magic, when in reality, they would've accomplished more with AW at their disposal. The templar idiots would've been cleaved in two while the mages leave the fight unscathed, protected by an invincible shroud.

Red, glowing things are never good :P  I figured it was either a) particularly potent or B) somehow corrupted.  Or perhaps both.  Normal lyrium can be used for enchanting, enhancing the powers of mages/templars, and reaching the Fade.  The idol's lyrium seemed to exhibit the same properties, but much more directly, without needing the focus of a mage or an enchanter.  It allowed Meredith to animate statues and move with incredible physical speed and strength.  It affected Bartrand despite the dwarven resistance.  And just a fragment of the idol unleashed a spectral golem during the Haunted quest.

And now there's a whole special lyrium Meredith in the middle of Kirkwall. Does this mean the whole city will go insane? (I mean moreso?)

It could just be the dance jealousy talking though . . .

Ah that is true.

Not my force mage. I love being on the front lines. :bandit: Does help that I'm not being constantly interrupted. Which is odd seeing as supposedy Force Mages are popular in Kirkwall's circle. Unless I'm remembering that codex wrong.

Yes he says he lead them through the gallows. I believe it was 5 mages he led. Eh. I can't help but feel since he wanted Meredith to evoke the rite and then expected to die he washed his hands of the mages in Kirkwall's circle. He screwed them over for his own ambition. He had no spies working for him in Kirkwalls circle that would've rallied the mages for when the rite was evoked. He was alone. And he left them out to dry. He used them as cattle to inspire other mages to fight.

Well, he didn't defeat my rogue, but he blamed me for ever taking him there, so I never did it again. LOL. I decided he was right. Why the heck would I take people into the fade with me? LMAO. That whole quest now appears so wrong.

Edit: But Anders in the fade becoming Justice. *shivers* I loved that part of it!

Edit 2: He was all take charge. *giggles*

Uh-oh... my scribblings do not include any festooning or sparkles. I guess I ought to be working on adding depravity since we've been sorely lacking.

*is ashamed... but back to drawing anyway*
