You have to do Emeric's quest in Act 1, but it sounds like you did.

He's no Fabio, but I see the beauty in Samson's junkie soul. He defied the templar order before it was cool. I don't fault him for his post Grace battle speech either. Grace made me want to wring the mages' necks, and I was playing pro-mage. And he's less messed up than crazypants Anders. You'd think the mage underground could have smuggled him some lyrium. Well, it was mostly for my canon replay where I tried to get things just so. I also attempt to do it as a way to space out all the Andersy goodness. The first time I played I did everything Anders related immediately. Then I had to go through the rest of the Act without much Anders and it made me sad.

I know he just killed Karl but...the way he talked about their
relationship, it sounded like some old story. Sure they were still
friends, but I don't think he felt something more for him now.
So yeah, Anders is totally free to flirt...even because I think at that time he is just half joking with you.
Then he starts being vreepy, but yeah, that's Anders.

(*) With a helping of Cullen on the side. He needs to be reminded just how much he likes the Amell mage ladies. This is quickly turning into cheesy 70's porn in my head. Then Anders walks in asking if someone ordered a pizza. It all ends with a huge pile of naked templars and mages making love, not war, and no explosions.
Damn man fascinates me, I even resaved after siding with the Templars in Broken Circle just so I wouldn't get his 'refused help and died' thing

He does mention how inappropriate it is after Karl so he's clearly still mourning over him. Either he's happy that someone's interested in tapping an abomination or he's trying to make light of what happened. You know, countering your tactlessness with even more tactlessness. Besides, I was under the impression that he still had feelings for Karl. Not necessarily love, but care and adoration. He slaughtered templars and took revenge on Ser Alrik with Karl in mind.

(and we don't talk about Cullen or my screaming 'Don't you dare kill him you ****!' to Meredith on my first playthrough, I've accepted I just seem to like lyrium addicted men in heavy armor)
