Alistair was sweet and all, but the LIs in DA2 were not the reason why I missed him. I was perfectly content with the drama that the dramallamas in DA2 brought me. Felt more personal.

I think Aveline is gorgeous. I wanted to romance her almost the minute I saw her in the demo. If she was a LI, I would resist Anders (somehow). For at least one playthrough.

But anyway, after Alistair and Zevran I was wondering how Bioware would provoke the same emotional attachment, they couldn't use the virgin-royal-bastard and sexy-assasin again.
But man, did they surpass Origins! They gave us two incredibly sexy emotionally damaged individuals to have angsty desperate romances with. I underestimated the appeal of tragedy.

I miss Alistair's romance.
It was so simple and cute...(you know, then it got all difficult when his future kingship was brought into question), and he was so freaking adorable. I just wanted to snuggle him.

Both male romance options in DA2 I just wanted to smack the **** out of after awhile. One is like "**** ALL MAGES" the other one is like, "FREE ALL MAGES....AND **** YOU FENRIS."
One is possessed, the other one can't let go of his past.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting there, holding the controller, like, "I just....want to snuggle Alistair." :crying:

Anyway, my general consensus is that I'm not the type who wants to drown myself in angst and argument all of the time. I like a little fluff with my angst, as well. And I didn't really get any of that. Sure, Anders goes all super-romantic on you, but because of the time jump, sometimes it didn't feel as genuine.
Even if you COULD sleep with Alistair a whole five seconds after meeting him (if you played your cards right.

What I miss most about Alistair is the chance to talk to him.  I didn't have to wait for a particular plot point to unlock a converstaion, I could just go over and ask him stuff and he'd answer.  He wanted to chat with me about his life and discuss our relationship.  I love Ander and Fenris but I would love them a lot more if I could sit down and ask about life in the Circle or on the run from Danarius.

:crying:
It was nice to talk to them whenever you felt like it. But I guess the plot point conversations make you focus more on the plot itself....you can't finish the romance 10 minutes into the game.

And this is the exact reason the time skip thing with Anders didn't bother me. If you played things right with Alistair it was like, "Hi, we just met, but omg I love you forever and I want to lose my virginity with you!" It really pushed the bounds of credulity. At least the Andersmance forced you to wait until you'd known him for a while.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the Alistair romance. However, I would have been quite happy had the game forced me to pace things. As it was I always would have him sleeping with me right away. So it was fun for the awkward, blood covered PDA for the whole game but it really was kind of unbelievable.

I didn't mind.
I just wish they had a soft squishy super adorable character in DA2...that I could go talk to and snuggle with when I was tired of pulling Fenris' claws out of Anders' face.

I know some folks miss their kissing in public or the pixel sex scenes, but honestly?  I do not.  I much prefer the treatment that the LIs got in DA2.  Sure I would have loved to see a little more skin (fully dressed that quickly?? really???), but overall, I found the experience more gratifying.

Not exactly Anders related, but this song, it's only a play, reminds me of DA2. Dionysus (Nathan Lane) is... sorta like Anders and Chorus/Pluto like Varric, a more sarcastic Hawke and Flemeth?

IDK. It's the "it's only a play" part that makes me go D: I'm just on a Sondheim kick.

IDGAF about kissing in public or pixel sex scenes. In fact, the sex scenes in DAO make me break out in mad giggles and I never actually watched one from beginning to end...in my six or so playthroughs.

I always found the pixeled sex sceens very...awkward. Felt too much like I was being a peeping tom when those sceens started.

Even installed the longer sex sceens mod back long ago when I was bored. One look and I quickly uninstalled it from the overwhelming feeling of awkwardness. Never again! D:

Okay I still don't get how people would find Aveline ugly or overly masculine, I actually think she has quite a feminine face. Not... Hollywood-style feminine, but she has very soft features. Not quite as androgynous as I expected.

You know, she's no Grace Jones.

Also: Most if not all characters in our modern media ARE based on some kind of stereotype, it is inevitable. - First and foremost we can only copy what we know and maybe create something new from it, and secondly practically everything has been done before. You don't need to check TV-tropes to know that.
All of the characters in DA2 are based upon one stereotype or another. - It's just the question how much depth and development you give any character, so it grows out of the stereotype and becomes a little bit more unique and three-dimensional.

What, you mean orchestral wailing doesn't play in the background every time you have sex IRL?

I was crazy about Alistair and at the time it seemed the whole sleep-with-morrigan-or-die drama seemed SO DARK and so painful to me, I barely survived it. I laugh in the face of such things now, hah bring on the mage hoes for Anders to knock up if it would mean separation from Justice with Pounce materialising from thin air and Meredith turning into a toad and being stepped on by Cullen.

I loved how sweet and gentle Alistair was and everything but you know what happened then? He dumped me because I couldn't make babies with him/wasn't human. That's the thing, I knew he was attracted and maybe loved me but he didn't want me enough to find a way to keep me. That **** hurt man.
(Also it felt like I was the bas and he was just following me around all deer eyed - NOT attractive rl)

So Anders - he gives me fluff whenever he can, he is "tender and devoted" and never wants to leave me. And doesn't!

My music always seemed to bug out for me. Was almost like a cappella of the love sceen music and the normal camp music.

Man, glad I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I swear I'm not trying to pick on you. *pre-emptive hugs*

I just want to say this. Yes Alistair was fluffy and innocent, but he had his fair share of worry/uncertainty. If you got into any sort of commitment talk he'd be all, "AAAGH! DUTY MIGHT TEAR US APART! LET"S NEVER TALK ABOUT IT!!" Thus, you couldn't ever talk about a future together with him. Also, the fact that you're both tainted. Plus, after the talk with Wynne and Alistair's constant fear of commitment talks, I knew something bad was down the road. For me that spelled lots of angst/worry/uncertainty. Maybe it seems like a small thing now, but I remember at the time it was one of the few things that actually worried me in DA:O.

That said, I'm with you in that I definitely don't mind the awkward underwear sex being banished forever. The romance scenes in DA2 were a lot deeper to me and they didn't make me bust out laughing.

Well, though the LIs in DA2 were plagued with fantasy drama, I liked the fact that there was something about all of them I couldn't change, and that they had their own problems that I could not necessarily help them with.  To me, that's a little more fleshed out than merely having someone who is mostly agreeable/snuggly/fluffy/etc etc.   I do get where you're coming from, I just can't really miss Alistair too much because of that.

Don't get me wrong, I love Alistair, but I'm one that also recognizes he wasn't exactly all rainbows and unicorns, either.  ... Only mostly.   There are no happy endings in DA, or ones that are conventional in defintion.

There are nipples! You have been warned! *Glares*

That said, I also miss the talking. I think it's so strange I can't just go up to Anders and have some random conversation or a kiss, or some fade to black love making while he's living in Hawke's mansion.

You could pick on me, that's fine.

There's a lot of uncertainty in every romance in the DA series, period.
But the difference between DAO and DA2, was that DAO let you forget about the uncertainty for a bit. You could sit and have humorous discussions without having them be filled with angst.
I miss those kind of talks. Where you don't feel all depressed every five seconds. I cling to every single freaking smile in the game because NO ONE EXCEPT FOR ISABELA AND VARRIC has a sense of humor.
You don't get as many laughs. :crying:
