I guess...even though I've not been a willing participant in any same sex relationships, my view on sexuality is very similar to Anders'. That being said, I am literally the only woman I know (excluding lesbians) who prefers f/f to m/m. Part of it, I think, is my own comfort levels with women in general versus men, but I also genuinely enjoy strongly written/characterized females and it's still fairly rare to see that in a medium such as...anything that isn't targeting women who love strong women. I love that I can play them, and I love that I can woo them.

Interesting. I'm so up for m/m in just about any medium, but I dislike the stuff that gets too romantic or overly emotional so fast. I don't think it has anything to do with gender roles, though. I'm just not comfortable with that level of intimacy from anyone. Oddly, though, I quite liked the Anders romanced even with his confession of feelings so soon after sexytimes. I think because he mentions he's been holding all this in for 3 years, which apparently in my deep-seated, intimacy-phobic brain is the proper amount of time to wait before you're allowed to express feelings.

I'd agree with this. I really don't like the sappy openness at all despite my thing for m/m; I enjoyed Morrigan and Zevran's romances much more than Leliana, for instance. I'd say I even prefer stereotypical male behavioral patterns in romances. It just feels a little... cheap? when the emotional intimacy is so freely given and without conflict.

I'd guess the reason why Anders appeals so much to me is that he comes off more like a lampooning of obsessive devotion, as a sort of symptom of an obsessive personality that is acknowledged as unhealthy and debilitating, and it ends so damn badly. I don't think I'd have liked it nearly so much if it were played completely straight without any kind of conflict.

I agree with this entirely.

In fact, I was very much looking forward to romancing Isabela as a female Hawke, since I really liked how strong her personality seemed pre-release and was excited about being able to really get into my first f/f romance in a video game.  Isabela/f!Hawke seemed like it would have a really good dynamic that other f/f relationships like Leliana and Liara were lacking, IMO.

But then they announced Anders and those plans went out the window.  Still need to get around to making that Hawke at some point.

Ahh we're back to this topic!

I guess I like to play m/m gay romances for the same reason I do a lot of stuff in games: it's something I can't have/do myself. Wrong kinda body and all that jazz. I do play others, too, but m/m is preferred choice if I get to choose.

I'd have to say I'm much more a fan of F/F than M/M. Not because M/M is icky or wrong or whatever, just that F/F resonates more strongly with me. Not so much in media that's targeting straight males, but in examples where two women would get together because it feels right.
One of the reasons I tend to stick to female Hawkes is that, not only do I more easily identify with them, but also that Anders, Merrill and Isabela's relationships all feel more natural to me with their partners as females.
So, uh. You are not alone?
