Of course, all the moral conflicts are still there, eating at him and tearing him apart, but he was able to seperate himself from them compleatly and go through with it to get things done. I think that is pretty amazing, and dare I say selfless. He gave up his whole life to allow Justice in and free people who didn't have a voice; he gave up his humor, his happiness, and morals to follow a cause to the end. He drove himself to madness, just to be damned, and it's heartbreaking.

^ This.

I'll do a playthrough to see the Fenris romance. But until I complete that one....above is reason enough for me to fall for Anders every single time. I'm such a sucker for the tragic heartbreaking romance.

Cyrano deBergerac, so heartbreaking at the end....Roxane saying "Oh! To have loved but one man, and to have lost him twice!"

Does anyone else get all tingly when he slams his staff down while talking in that scene?

Me. >.> I thought I was the only one.

Mmm... me too.  He seemed like a sexy Moses whacking his staff like that.

EDIT:  ::snicker::  Whacking his staff... lol.  I"m sorry, Jennifer.  You wrote an awesomely tragic character and here I am making penis jokes.

As far as Anders is concerned there is never an inappropriate time for penis jokes, dun matter how smitey and vengeancey he is at the time Image IPB

*snerk* Aah, penis jokes. I-- had to make an effort not to make any allusions when originally asking that question XD But what else are we supposed to do when we can't enjoy shirtless Anders? ;-; Can't even remove his equipment for running-around-shirtless-for-no-reason-other-than-spontaneous-sexiness screencaps! TAT

Oh! To those of you who have the SE - for the Soundtrack, do you think 29 - Mage Pride is Anders' theme? I can't remember explicitly when it plays (I blazed through my first playthrough). It's so pretty. <3

I know!  Bioware entirely ruined my plans for Team Harem.  I planned to bring Fenris, Anders, and Sebastian everywhere in their underwear.  ::pout::

Well I have to give it to Jennifer Hepler: she certainly nailed all of the real-life motivations and actions that suicide bombers do here in meatspace.

- Justify terrorism by claiming it's for a 'good cause'.
- Use emotional blackmail to get people they love to aid them without divulging their plans.
- Attempting to give away all of their worldly belongings.

Please don't take this comment as an attack on anyone or anything; I just wanted to say that the character of Anders certainly does provoke emotional reactions from people one way or another.

I must admit, though, that what Anders does in the end game has me really wondering whether he actually loved Hawke like he claimed or if he merely saw her as a means to an end. Is it even possible for a zealot to truly love someone with any real sincerity? Was this something you foresaw being an issue for some players when you wrote him, Ms. Hepler?

I think he did, in his own brittle way. The fact that he tried to ensure that they wouldn't take the blame and tried to warn them away in the first place is a good sign. If Anders was that manipulative, he would have pulled a sob story and used it lure them, rather than use it as a barrier to keep them from getting hurt. You really do have to push Anders into a relationship, even if it's what be wants.

Just because he blew up the Chantry does not mean he's completely devoid of emotion. He seemed very sincere in his feelings for Hawke. Despite Justice's objections, he came to my Hawke any ways. The reason he kept mine in the dark (and others as well) was that he didn't want him to be a co-conspirator/fugitive along with him. However, he also believes (or at least, with help of Vengeance since it's taking control over him) that the mages need his help more than my Hawke's loving.

Part of me is clinging to the absolutely ridiculous hope that if we get DLC, it'll be placed within the three-year gap where they're living together, and well get more gooshy romance scenes in addition to new quests and events. ;-; Honestly, I hope all the DLC is companion-centric because we get so much less character interaction than in Origins!

And I support shirtlessness in DA2. For everyone! Common, modders! :| Mind you, this is also the perfect opportunity for shirtlessness being included in alternate appearance DLC packs...

Shirtlessness...  Pantlessness (no, not you Isabella)... I am all for these things.

Now, Anders...

I do have to say there was some damn fine writing there with this character.  He was written with a level of complexity that didn't seem forced (hard to do if you ask me).  I haven't romanced him yet, but am planning to do so on this second playthrough.

Alright, I'm confused. Does Anders dump you after you finish "Justice"? It sounds like it, and I keep reloding trying to figure out if it's safe to keep going. Is there diallog I should choose at this point to not screw things up? Also, I can't get Fenris' personal quest which means I can't get Anders' gift

It's hard to say. I thought he dumped me, but the codex and his behaviour says otherwise. I think we need a dev or the writer on this one, I keep thinking it might be some sort of coding error or glitch.

He was trying to distance himself from Hawke, not necessarily break up, I mean after I did his personal quest he was still in my Hawke's house. To soften the blow, so to speak, of what he was about to do. He was also giving his possessions in which he treasured as well, to see that they were cared for, (Mom's Pillow:crying:). Settling his accounts so to speak....

He wasn't planning on living after he blew the Chantry.

No, he doesn't dump you. He shows up later in the main plot. The choice is in your hands then.

I think Anders definitly still loves you. He tries his damnest not to, but he can't help it (cue awesomely steamy kiss). He tries so hard to push you away and distance himself, and actually becomes so distant in the end that alot of people on here think that he actually broke up with them.
In order to do what must be done he knew had to cut himself off from all emotions and morals or he wouldn't have been able to do it, he knew being with Hawke would make it tragic (but wonderful) for both of them in the end and that it would bring in emotions he didn't want to have to deal with. But he couldn't resist falling for Hawke.

He's still just a man after all. *swoon*

Oh he's living alright...lol I like the grand cleric, but we begged her to leave after meeting "nightengale". As far as Orsino and Meredith know i didn't pick sides but thats alll part of the plan.

@Surely and Valentia

Thank you very much for the replies! I did give him the key at the beginning of Act 3 but haven't seen the scene with the dog! @_@ MUST SEE. (Just barely started 3 this morning, now I'm at work, poo.) I'm relieved and, as another poster said, saddened that there are fewer interactions. I did the SAME thing, harassing all my companions and goign through their every conversation piece.

I'm with you... and if not at the Gallows then a cutscene somewhere else with a kiss to end all kisses! Image IPB Although that kiss in the clinic leaves me breathless every ....single...time Image IPB

Wait. There's a kiss in teh clinc? I hope it's in Act 3 and I haven't gotten there yet, dear Maker! All I've had is the kiss in my house when we meet. THAT ... was a good scene. If only it were a little more detailed, or you could give him kisses more often... Poor guy...

Pippa, he came to you at night? And you finished his personal quest and Questioning Beliefs?

I AGREE! Moar social DLC! The DLC from Origins gave us lots of extra fighting stuff to appease that side of it's players, but 2 needs more social to balance it out like Origins was. I love roleplaying, so this type of game has made me very happy when I'm not able to actually interact with others. But 2 was missing a lot of the gooshy, witty, snarky and chatty that Origins was so wonderfully filled with.

He came to me at night in Act 2, and I did a questioning beliefs earlier today... That was when he was being all breaky-uppy at me, but yet just 5 minutes later Varric was randomly talking with him about our sex lives. o.O

Yeah, if you tell him you don't want him to resist he lays a nice one on you. I gotta say, I thought the Alistair first kiss was cute, but the Anders one made my crotchety, single-loving self really miss kissing for a hot second.

I thought they did; Anders was all 'hey, didn't you used to be a Warden?' Although I could see that as being taken another way.
