What bothers me more are the 'Justice made him bisexual' arguments. As though bisexuality is a ****ing ailment.

I guess "Justice is blind" ===> "anyone is free to ride the Justice?"

It's hard for me to imagine Anders not being sexually attracted to anyone that, you know, treats him well. It seems like he's one of those people for whom kindness and sexual feelings sorta twist around each other, so he's more a "not a jerk to me, touches me kindly"-sexaul than a "bisexual".

I don't get why all the focus is on his orientation either. I think the discussion we were having earlier about his mental health is much more interesting and discussion worthy (even if it's depressing). Instead people ignore that completely and go on endlessly about how he gave them the gay or whatever it is they're worried about.

Granted, I suppose it's hard to talk about that kind of stuff with people who are of the opinion that he was perfectly mentally sound in Awakening.

Agreed and considering what he is and what he knows he has done, it just wants someone to accecpt him and if they happen to care about him, the better.  He gets to feel human and loved at once?!  Yeah I see him falling for Hawke male or female because of that alone.

Also ROFL free Justice rides.

I still ascribe to the pansexual theory.

Which of course makes the bottom right of this picture hilarious to me:

That's a good point too. I mean, the game even presents it partly as Anders falls for Hawke because Hawke is able to look beyond the Justice thing and see him as a human (albeit, a bit of a damaged human).

And I second the Justice ride ROFLing.

I prefer not labeling it, really.

I think he's a broken, miserable man who isn't getting any of his needs met (proper nutrition, safety, shelter, sexual activity, rest, etc, etc) and just the idea that someone is willing to touch him would be far more important than whatever he previously felt he identified as.

But, I'm also in the middle on ... a lot of things, perhaps other people don't work like that, since I see that as what more of my response would be.

So I'll probably get ninja'd but here it is

As the writer of Anders, and many other aspects of DAII, I found this an interesting and thoughtful examination of what we tried to do with the game. I do find it odd, though, that Anders is not discussed in regards to the treatment of the mentally ill. For me, that is primarily what his relationship is about — the difficulties of loving and trying to help someone who struggles with a part of himself that he cannot control and may never be able to control. It is certainly the experience I drew from when writing him, and I think it uses the fantasy setting in the way I most prefer to see — providing a magical metaphor for exploring real-world problems. To me, this is the central feature of his character — not whether he is gay or straight, but the inner demons (personified as Justice/Vengeance), which both he and you, as his lover, must struggle against every day.

I'll say it. I still find it awesome.

But the awesomeness is now tainted...

Poor Anders.

Does it actually make any difference though? Jennifer just said Anders was all about trying to control a part of him he couldn't/fighting his demons. That's hardly different from what we knew already.

It's not like she said he was suffering from dementia or something.
