I prefer not labeling it, really.

I think he's a broken, miserable man who isn't getting any of his needs met (proper nutrition, safety, shelter, sexual activity, rest, etc, etc) and just the idea that someone is willing to touch him would be far more important than whatever he previously felt he identified as.

But, I'm also in the middle on ... a lot of things, perhaps other people don't work like that, since I see that as what more of my response would be.

:crying:
Goddamit Anders, why are you so tragic.

edit: have a sad pic so you can all feel sad because i do.

After Hepler's mental illness quote I can no longer find blowing up the Chantry amusing. :/

Does it actually make any difference though? Jennifer just said Anders was all about trying to control a part of him he couldn't/fighting his demons. That's hardly different from what we knew already.

It's not like she said he was suffering from dementia or something.

He's certainly not mentally healthy, with that whole ... contortion thing he's got going on with Justice.

When I play DA2 and deal with Anders, it makes me think of visiting friends in the hospital after they've tried to commit suicide and I didn't catch the signs. Or that one time I did.

I guess "Justice is blind" ===> "anyone is free to ride the Justice?"

It's hard for me to imagine Anders not being sexually attracted to anyone that, you know, treats him well. It seems like he's one of those people for whom kindness and sexual feelings sorta twist around each other, so he's more a "not a jerk to me, touches me kindly"-sexaul than a "bisexual".

Agreed and considering what he is and what he knows he has done, it just wants someone to accecpt him and if they happen to care about him, the better.  He gets to feel human and loved at once?!  Yeah I see him falling for Hawke male or female because of that alone.

Also ROFL free Justice rides.

That's a good point too. I mean, the game even presents it partly as Anders falls for Hawke because Hawke is able to look beyond the Justice thing and see him as a human (albeit, a bit of a damaged human).

And I second the Justice ride ROFLing.

I have been saying that until I thought my brain was going to explode from having to explain.  I can see where Anders is coming from, it's a dark and shattered place, and then someone comes along willing to cut their hands on your broken life so can try and put it back together.  That brings up emotions so strong it isn't even funny.

Sorry about that, m8.

That's the nice thing about video games and other stories. It's almost like you get to go back and fix the things you actually ****ed up.

Or.. **** up again, I guess, in DA2.

Right. Who wants a funny gif?

Because it makes me think Justice is no good at all for him and Justice needs to be under control as soon as possible. Or just gone. Whichever works. Preferably the latter.

And that the mages fate shouldn't be in someone's hands who can't see the situation clearly.

Before I could laugh it off but now I see it as the action of a very disturbed man who needed help and no one could help him. Its sad all around.

Granted it wasn't funny to begin with but now he reminds me of my aunt :/

I can't imagine what it must have been for Hawke to live with him those 3 years and see him sliding down the slope. And realising there's nohing s/he can do. :( That codex entry is so heartbreaking.

That's a... simple way of looking at it.

Remember, Anders changed Justice as well. And... Anders wasn't all that well in the first place. And he won't exactly be right as rain when if Justice could leave.

It'd be like tearing part of him out, I imagine.

I still ascribe to the pansexual theory.

Which of course makes the bottom right of this picture hilarious to me:

Oh, no I get what you're saying completely. It was mainly a lighthearted comment. But I guess, I spend so much time having to defend my sexuality (or lack thereof) I've become massively educated on the subject. I'm not overly fond of labels myself either, but it does hearten me to see a character with a more fluid sexuality than others. As Anders seems to be more about the person than the body they inhabit, pansexuality seems to fit better for me than bisexuality, if you must label it at all.

That isn't what you always thought? :P

I could brush it off through the lens of "it's fiction," but I just went wide-eyed and slack-jawed at just how insanely (ha) ****ed-up Anders had become. It wasn't all because of Justice, but the merging was disastrous to both of them.

Man I'm glad I don't have any family members with serious psychological issues. The worst (and only) thing of the sort I've had was a grandmother with alzheimer's.

It is I won't deny it.

And I'm not saying he would be. But frankly at this rate it's only gonna get worse. How long before he goes from content to wanting more "justice" ?

It would be most likely. But that part of him to me is destructive.

Ha! I didn't feel it as strongly before. I'm more on the side of "kill it now." before I was more of a "justice needs to chill." person.

And yeah he did jump off the deep end.

This times a zillion. I like to giggle and make jokes about Anders as much as the next fan, but so much of his story comes from such a dark, familiar place I have trouble distancing myself from it. It's why I have so much difficulty with taking the harsher options when dealing with him: even though sometimes it's for the best, it's difficult not to show the compassion that a person in that situation often needs.

And hugs @ Kawamura: I know what you mean about the hospital visits.
