However, she should probably exercise some caution and maybe not sneak up on the mage with the templar hating demon inside of him while wearing it. Probably.

To quote the man himself: "Did he ever ask you to play “the naughty mage and the hapless recruit?”
Maybe the “secret desire demon and the upstanding knight?”

You've just made this pic twenty times cooler. *drools*

Lol at what he says when you try to make him lockpick when there is no rogue in the party "What, am I magic?"

I dunno, simple things amuse me.

I miss the companions making comments when you switched to them. :(

Oh man, I'll never catch up on everything that's been written since I left on the 3rd. Suffice it to say I'm on my third playthrough now and I still feel like everything is awful forever from my first run. Oh, Anders. Oh, my heart.
Ms Hepler, I am conflicted by the desires to both spam you with Y U DO THIS macros and giving you a round of applause. My heart has never been so thoroughly rent in twain.

This!  This forever.

I have done almost nothing besides play this game since March 8th, because when I'm not playing it, I just think about it and get depressed.  I'm about 3/4 finished with my 4th playthrough... aaaaaand I'm probably going to start a 5th the very second I finish this one, because this one is going to be uber-depressing.  This is my pro-templar, Anders rival-mance run.  She's probably going to have to kill Anders in the end, which will just make me so sad.

I agree. I've never immediately replayed a Bioware game, but I'm on my third DA2 run. I might have started for fun for the other games, but never actually went through with it. When I complete a Bioware RPG, I'm like "that was it. that was my playthrough" for one because it was so long, and for another, because I thought I did the best I could. I got the "good ending", and that's that. With this, there are so many things you miss, so much good conversation, it's amazing. I think part of why it's good is that the convo trees seem more dynamic, and BECAUSE you can't see all of the speaking options right off the bat, it will still surprise you when you click a new option. And the different ways characters can respond or react to you ... the fact that you can only have 4 people in a party ... this is the recipe for replay madness.

So in essence, the game time of the game is the lenght of one playthrough times however many playthrough, since you almost feel compelled to do so.

I saw this video of the awkward oral sex scene from Sebastian's Act 2 quest, and Anders's facial expression is priceless.  His face as he realizes what he's seeing... LOL!

Anders: o_o..... 0_0.... O_O

First of all: WTF NEVER GOT THIS SCENE! I imagine it's in Seb's Harimann quest but you explored the house more thoroughly.

Second: I was like "what expression? he's just ... oh .. omg, LOL" Yes, he's like it's dawning on him. xD

After my first play I had to just not touch the game for about three days: I just couldn't bring myself to go through that again. Oh, it hurt. Even choosing to go on the run with him was just heartbreaking.
My fourth run will be my complete bastard run where I kill, extort and make as many people as unhappy as possible, which is usually incredibly fun. But the knowledge that I'll have to kill Anders at the end has me putting it off for as long as possible. I really don't envy your position right now. Woe is us.

It seems like a lot of people think DA2 was depressing. I just thought it was loads of fun. Some parts are sad and/or creepy... but for me it was about equal parts epic, exciting, hilarious/adorable and a whole lot of awesome.

I was a little confused at first when they said nothing. xD I don't switch companions enough to miss it, but it was a bit of an "awkward silence" moment when I'm used to hearing it.

It's going to make me very sad. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie]  I'm having trouble deciding which way to go.  I don't want to just murder-knife him in the back, so I'm debating letting him go and then killing him when she shows up to side with the mages at the Gallows.  I just don't think my warrior Hawke could bring herself to stick a knife in a man's back, especially a man she loves.  As I've said before, she would prefer to do it to his face and hold him as he died.

But at least if you murder-knife him, he dies loving Hawke and at (relative) peace.  At the Gallows, he seems to hate Hawke for siding with the templars (can't blame him, I suppose).  I'll probably play them both and see which ones feels right. :crying:

And then I will immediately start replaying my sarcastic lunatic rogue Hawke who quickly forgives Anders for blowing up the Chantry and dashes away with him into the sunset to have abomination babies and kittens.

I've always said that I would never kill off one of my favorite characters as long as there's a choice to keep them alive, because my favorites die far too often and it's impossible to prevent. *glares at Anders for actually wanting to die* Still not going to do it, so there. xD

Lucky for me, his rivalmance FemHawke will side with the mages in the end even though she's a templar and probably won't forgive Anders for what he's done. There is an option to just let him leave, right? Because that's what she would do. Or keep him with her but end the romance. (Unlike the friendmance FemHawke, Kaya, who totally supports him. She gets the abomination babies and would let Anders have kittens if he wants.)

I'm doing the pro-templar thing... and knowing one way or another I have to kill Anders, it's really made the whole playthrough VERY sad. Mind you, I am not romancing Anders during a playthrough where I side with the templars. I just cannot do that, just cannot.

At first I was miffed that he couldn't at least support me as a friend, like Merrill and Fenris do (they disagree but they can be persuaded on either side)... but then I thought back to his feelings on the matter and to how my mage elf warden would feel about someone about to go masacre some mages... And I get why he cannot support me as his friend.

@leggywillow You make an excellent case for killing him in the cut-scene rather than in battle. I just wish it wasn't some cowardly backstab! ARG. I might follow your example and try it both ways.

Okay, I need some happy... does anyone know some good fan-fic with Hawke/Anders that ends with them running off together?

I must stop thinking of killing Anders. Must. It's making me weep reading people's fanfic of Hawke killing her lover.

What happens if Anders leaves after the Dissent quest? Does he stay gone or does he come back?

And can you still romance him if he does come back?

Whenever I get too sad, I just think of my After Kirkwall mental canon, where Hawke and Anders are on the run, fighting for glorious freedom and knowing that whatever happens, they will always have each other's back.
It might be tragic to know that Anders will always put his cause first, but it's somewhat mitigated if Hawke feels the same way. Screw finding a quiet village to hide in and settling down to raise children and kittens: my Hawke is looking forward to a lifetime of kicking templar ass, burning down Chantries, and changing the entire society of Thedas with her lover by her side.

He's a demon-possessed visionary with a grudge against the Chantry. She's a sarcastic, knife-wielding refugee with nothing left to lose. They fight crime!

My Kaya Hawke is the same way, except she would also raise children who fight for the cause with them. >:D

Oh! Question for you guys! I screwed up part of my current game and had to reload back to the post-Dissent conversation where Anders is sorting his things, and I just noticed that you can tell him to leave Kirkwall and that you want nothing more to do with him. I'm not intending on doing so for this playthrough, but does he ever rejoin you? Or does he just make an appearance to blow up the Chantry and is unavailable for the final battle?

@smuglobster: Guh. Excuse me, I have to go hunt down one of my cats and give it a hug on Anders' behalf.

PS: Is anyone else a compulsive saver? I'm 3/4 of the way through Act II on this run, and my total saves are already over 2000, with 170 named saves. :?

Yes.
Apart from saves seeming to randomly decide to be "corrupted" or what have you on my xbox, I usually have to save a couple times.

I giggled at that too. Yes, Anders, you most certainly are magic.

Also, at one point Anders took a fairly nasty direct hit and got KO'ed, and I heard one of my party members shout "Healer down!" instead of "Anders down!" or, in Sebastian's quite distinctive case, "Anders has fallen!" For some reason it made me smile a little.
