Hehe, I'm glad I wasn't alone in thinking this. :D

edit: It is a truth universally acknowledged that if someone replies to a silly post about shaving armpits it ends up pn top >_<

It's obviously because Anders is completely hairless from the neck down... :bandit:

Edit: On a completely unrelated note, the story "Tempering Justice" that someone linked last night is breaking my heart. It hurts so good. :crying:

It was me haha. And I regret nothing! Also, I warned you it was heartbreaking.

But seriously, it's pure awesome. That author writes Justice so well.

Well, it's probably easier to slide down the pole without any leg/ body hair.

And can you share the link for that Justice story?

Tempering Justice

It's a story of the friendmance from Justice's POV. Really interesting if a tad depressing. But then, that's Anders for you. ^_^

Edit: Oh, and Inzhuna, thanks for linking it in the first place. It kept me up way later than I meant, but it was worth it.

I'm trying to write Jennifer Hepler a PM to hopefully clarify some things about Justice and Anders's relationship, the whole manic depression thing, the F/R paths and the different endings, but GAWD I am rambling so much. What a mess.

If you're worried about it being too rambly, you could post it here first and we can all try to pitch in to tighten it up before you send it out. I tend to be a rambler myself, but I'd be glad to help if I can.

I know this is a few pages late, but I had to share the reaction from my husband:

That is soooo wrong.  I got the mental image of Ander's being strapped in bondage yelling "KITTEN.  OMG KITTEN"

Let no one ever doubt why I love this thread.

Don't forget Ms. Helper is out on maternity leave, so she might not respond (quickly or at all).

This. I'd be really interested in what you're discussing in your message, I'm not very eloquent myself but lots of the Anderstians here really are so I'm sure you'd get a lot of input if you were wanting some Image IPB

Speaking of fic, now I know why people are all up on the Fenris/Anders thing. The two of them bickering? Way fun to write, even if Fenris' voice is tricky.

Yeah, it's from a very good review that's linked in my sig as well. Seriously. I played DAII almost completely unspoiled and it just felt like the game kept punching me in the face. It's especially true with regards to Anders. I'm at least glad my 1st playthrough was romancing Fenris, not him, so when I did get to romance him, I knew what to expect. Otherwise I don't know how I would have gotten through that XD

Now that you mention it, I cannot help myself. If you want some good lulz/angst/d'awww go read this. Basically, Fenris gets turned into a cat and Hawke gives him to Anders.
:o
What could possibly go wrong, right. Or is it the other way round?

OK. How the hell did I miss the Tevinter Imperium debate!?

Ah... "Tempering Justice." Now I have the urge to write fanfics... damn you all!

I wonder if Justice ever has good days where he's less demonic-like. I just see potential (slight) similarities between his time using Kristoff's body for a host, and the mess with Aura, and the mess with Anders and Hawke....

My first playthrough was romancing Anders (and with one exception all subsequent playthroughs too, lol) and I couldn't understand at the time why, when finally getting to play the game I'd been looking forward to for months, I just felt so miserable. In hindsight it's of course because the game delivers one emotional gut punch after the other (in a brilliant way). As much as I love Origins (and I really do), it didn't affect my mood anywhere close to how DA2 did (and still does) and is one of the many aspects of it I enjoy Image IPB

I know. I've mostly been avoiding reading fanfiction because I knew it would make me want to write some. :pinched:

This is mostly related to that comment I posted here a few hours ago, regarding the whole Justice being an allegory to mental instability thing.

Basically what I want to ask is

a) the relationship between Justice and Anders's psychological problems (bipolar disorder mostly). Is Justice's existence the cause? Is his influence the cause? Or is Justice just part of it?

B) how does the situation evolve with the friendship/rivalry paths. The first seems to lead to concordance and the second to dissonance. How does that relate to the mental issues though. Do they attenuate if Anders and Justice "merge"? Do they actually merge, or is it just a temporary thing? Things obviously seem much worse in the rivalry ending, but still it's not exactly very clear, but Jennifer did say Anders and Jusitice's relationship completely changes in act 3 based on whether you befriend or rival him.

This isn't that important but I'm skill curious:

c) is there supposed to be a different rivalry path ending if you side with the mages?

And while I'm at it I think I'm gonna ask about the Calling too
_

On an unrelated note, this is kinda interesting. On wikipedia's "mental disorder" page, the featured pic is a painting called "Salpetriere", named after an hospital in Paris., which shows 8 women representing 8 different mental disorders. I wonder if that's where the idea for "salpetrae" came from.
http://en.wikipedia....Mental_disorder
http://en.wikipedia....trière_Hospital

_

I'll post the message here when I'm done.

Just delurking but this caught my eye. Will have to go up and look at the original post but honestly as a mental health professional, I wouldn't have made that diagnosis (bpdo) for a number of reasons.... ;)

I romanced Anders on my first, unspoiled playthrough as well. It was killer. Despite that, I 'm glad I played it that way. Anders really drew me into the story and made me care about the whole mage/Templar thing in a way I never had before. My first Hawke was a 2H warrior. I had no idea what the story would be about and I didn't know who I was going to romance. Then Anders ended up being the first companion I recruited. Poor Hawke was lost after that.

I'm with you, purplecookie, in saying that though I love Origins, it never moved me as much as DA2 did.

I believe sela petrae comes from saltpeter, or potassium nitrate, the critical oxidizing component of gunpowder. Really, for someone who knows chemistry it must have been a dead give away from the start. (Not that Anders is very good at subtle anyway. "BOOM! And we're free!" Really, Anders?)

No? Well, I don't know music about psychology, but it seems like it's mostly manic depression, if the codex is to be believed. Not mention Anders is literally bipolar, in the sense he has 2 entities inhabiting the same body.

Yeah I know it comes from that as well, but the fact that that page features a painting called Salpetriere, it's at the very least a very odd coincidence.

The thing is, there were quite a few games, including Origins, that affected me on the first playthrough, but after I learned the plot, and played subsequent runs, it didn't move me in such a way again, since I knew everything already.

With DAII, I felt miserable the first playthrough, and then on the second one (with Anders rivalmance) I felt EVEN MORE MISERABLE. No game ever done that to me before!
