And this one is an evergreen. Perhaps my favorite fanart!

I really like how the author worked Sir-Pounce-a-Lot into the picture :o

Oh my god, I've seen this pic several times in the past but I never noticed freaking Merrill lighting the cigar with her finger. Also could Bethany be any more adorable.

I guess that's why I have such a hard time with the idea of Bethany and Anders as a couple. I understand the impulse to shove them together, but...Hawke, aside from being older, has been in a caretaker position since Malcolm died; s/he's used to looking out for others, to being the responsible one, to shouldering the burdens. Bethany is too sweet, too sheltered.

Anders would utterly destroy her. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie]

First of all: Oh my God that picture is made of epic! XD
I can see that happening, too. One of the happier times in the three year gaps. (They do apparently like playing Wicked Grace at the Hanged man)

Also, the Bethany thing. Definately. also, as a companion, Bethany doesn't get an LI because then there'd be a jealousy sub-plot and I'd have to side with the Templars and kill her because my Hawke would have snapped completely.

I actually kinda like the idea of Bethany/Nate, which is a pretty random and out there pairing.

Totally delayed reaction, but I like this one.  Personally, I was shipping Bethany with Seamus but then he, y'know, got Chantried.

Yeah, I really can't see Andersx Beth, but I could totally believe Beth and Seamus. They have the same young, naive, idealistic thing going on. Poor Seamus.

Aww, I can't speculate on Beth because I can't get past the prologue with anything but mage!Hawke. But I do ship Carver with Merrill. They have the most adorable banters together.

That's literally the very first thing I noticed  My view of Merrill has a strong coloration of "Effing hot" because this picture is the banner for my head!canon.

Also could Bethany be any more adorable.

She could be naked

Bethany has a starry-eyed reverence for Anders not because she has a crush on him, but because he's like "Daddy!"

I always saw Bethany as having a really strong crush on Anders for about three hours. Then we took him to the Chantry. She got over it.

I never thought Bethany saying Anders was like her dad was that big a deal, tbh. It's possible to see qualities in a guy that are similar to one's father, and still have a crush on him, and it doesn't have to be creepy. IMO.

Likewise, the age difference doesn't bother me. Well, how old are we putting Anders at? If he's late twenties, then he's about 10 years older than Bethany? Which might be weird when she's 19, but not so weird when she's 24. But then perhaps my perspective is skewed, my husband is 8 years older than me, and I've never had much problem with age difference in relationships so long as the people are well-matched.

That said, I still don't see Bethany and Anders. I think Anders loves Hawke for being a person of action, and Bethany is...not that. I think Anders might feel protective of Bethany, and those protective feelings would prevent him from actually pursuing her (lest he hurt her). Hawke, on the other hand, is a big boy/girl and strong enough to handle all Anders' baggage.

I don't think it's a big deal or creepy. I do think it precludes thoughts of wonderful orgasmic bliss. Real people are attracted to people who exhibit their parents' qualities all the time. But that does not equate to some Elektra complexed "You remind me of my dad, so I want you" nonsense. With Anders and Bethany, that would be the case, because all we hear is that he reminds her of Malcolm. We don't see anything she likes about him except for that paternal resemblance. There's a reason that this comparison is the only one the writers chose to show us as Hawke.

I have this whole head-canon of Bethany (being a teenaged girl) being all gaga over the hot, renegade mage and thinking of her mom doing the same over her dad years earlier. The clinic would have probably seemed romantic and daring to her sheltered eyes. But then they go to the Chantry and we learn about Karl and Justice. She goes from "Awww" to "Ewww".

Edited to add: That's not to say that she can't like him as a person and respect his work (at least for a few years :D) but I didn't see her as being interested in him sexually after that.

I see what you're saying. I probably missed something. I only remember one comment where Bethany told Anders he was like her dad, and I just took it as "oh, she thinks he's kind like him."

I was going to chip in and say something like this  - there's plenty of research showing that the qualities people find attractive (in a romantic sense) in others are similar to those the opposite-sex parent has, both in terms of disposition and looks (just to emphasise with looks, not as in look-alike but more things like hair colour, eye colour, that type of thing). So Bethany's comment really didn't strike me as creepy and was the one that made me think that she could have a little crush on Anders.

I don't see it with Anders but I don't see it with anyone not even Izzy. Beth is so bland and sweet and nice but in a "would make a good chantry sister" kind of way

The clinic thing reminds me - people rag on Izzy for picking up some sort of infection, calling her all sorts of names, but they're overlooking a single, important fact: she went to Anders and got it healed. I'm not picking on you or anything here, Dea, it's just something I want to point out before I forget again.

People that say she's some sort of disease-ridden hag are missing the point that she noticed something was up and went out and fixed it. You know, unlike certain males of my acquaintance that would rather pretend everything is fine rather than get their junk poked at by a doctor.
Not to mention that it ignores that fact that you can't always tell if someone has an STD at a glance, and that condoms probably aren't in wide-spread use in Thedas. Izzy might be impulsive and do silly things, but at least she takes some responsibility for her own sexual health.

I had to re-read my posts to see if I said anywhere that she's disease ridden LOL.
Isabela has way too much experience not to deal with that stuff and she's a smart cookie.  She's selfish, likes things simple and shallow as much as possible... but stupid she's not.

Yes. Chantry sister.

Beth has some fire in her, especially if you make her a Warden. And, if she travels with Hawke after Stuff Goes Down, and Isabela's with Hawke...

So this post has a serious lack of Anders. Rectified!

And that is why I love her so.  Also one night of serious girl fun is great too.  Then her me and Anders sail the high seas kicking templar ass taking mages to safty via ship...yes I can see it now.

See, I would totally go for the whole Isabela then - whoever... Like this time around Blooming Rose, Isabela, Merrill... o.O LOLz But I'm terrified of getting the Isabela glitch where it either says I end up with her or both Isabela's and actual lover's name is spoken.
And when romancing Fenris I'm skittish after hearing how many people having a hard time getting it to trigger after flirting too hard with other LIs.
A mage!Hawkette is totally in Isabela's future, she's going to have HEAL so no problems there hahahahaha.

malcolm probably did have light hair and dark eyes to account for the differences in various Hawkes...
maybe he's just like anders but without justice (lucky leandra!)

It's IMPOSSIBLE to be mean to Alistair. I tried rejecting the rose in the meanest way possible and felt guilty for the rest of the day.

It's like Anders's "b-but all the things you said... we talked about it... YOU'RE BREAKING UP WITH ME?! :crying::crying::crying:"

OMG.  LOL.  This terrifies me now because I want to do a Zevran lover Origin play (assuming I can stand the non-talking protagonist...) and I don't want Alistair thinking we're lovers :( and then having to dump him "Oh how about that Zevran guy, you two serious?" o.O Noes.

I managed to turn Anders' down everytime in a very nice way because I don't want to see that sad face... saw it on youtube, :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying: too sad for my heart!

They apparently fixed Varric's confusion with 1.0whateverthepatchnumberwas, though I personally haven't finished a game since where it would have occurred so I'm only going by patch notes. Even so, I didn't mind it. I'm with Amondra on this one. Hawke and Isabandersla is the best possible outcome for my Andersmancers. :D
