I just LOVE that pic. I would say it's my favorite piece of DA2 fanart ever, but that's not really true because there's way too much amazing fanart out there.

And yes, Fenders is pure love.

I like that particular piece of art.
But I simply don't understand why people like Fenders?
The thought kinda makes me cringe.

I think if I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the blue one of Anders and Justice by sandara.  But you're right, there's a ton of excellent fanart out there.

Fenders is like Harry/Draco.  I can appreciate that it's super-hot, but the pairing itself somewhat breaks my brain, though I certainly won't complain about the eye candy.  *braces self for Harry Potter shipping war*

I think that's my favorite too. In fact, I think it needs reposting.

Considering this, I think Wynne's Hacking (I guess the best term I can think of given the situation) and Anders/Justice merging cannot possibly be truly compared anymore due to the varying natures of each situation.

But I love doing it anyway.

Wynne/Content/Serene/Aged + Benevolent (stalker?)Spirit =Powerful Slightly Dead Spirit Healer with a penchant for long-winded, if well intentioned, lectures.

Anders/Troubled/UnresolvedEmotions/BeenAroundTheBend + Stranded Tempted Spirit (sexy Prig) + realization of injustice+ misplaced intentions for taste = Powerful Abominated Unstable Healer/Damager with a massive hypocritical blindspot.

I've always considered Wynne to be different in this regard. That comes from how I've looked at possessions in DA in general.

It's always seemed to me that there are at least two types of possession: spiritual and physical.

The reason we as the Warden could free Connor was because he wasn't physically possessed. The Desire Demon was still in the fade and not inside Connor's actual body. Because it was a willing deal, we were able to sever the link in the fade.

Wynne, at least how I understood it, was also like this. Her spirit became bonded to her Spirit of Faith in the fade. It sustained her spirit, which sustained her.

Anders is interesting in that, Justice was already across the veil and in the mortal realm. Anders willingly and physically took Justice into himself, which is how we get the glowing Anders/Justice abomination thing, and we can't server the connection like Connor.

At least, that's my theory.

I think Gaider should be paying you to write the codeces.:wizard:  And you're absolutely right about the physical vs. spiritual possessions. This only makes me look back on Awakening even with more sorrow as it was pretty much being thrown into our faces.

As to the bolded, I can't remember the dialogue but I thought I heard that if Anders dies Justice will be free? Was context given to this, like would he be free of Anders and out and about in the world again? Or since he and Anders are now one, wouldn't they both cross through the Veil into the Fade and the Beyond? Or did he just plainly say Justice would be free?:P

Haha, well. From what I can remember Anders says something along the lines of, "If I die, perhaps it will be Justice that rises from my corpse, not Vengeance.

Of course, I think it's difficult to know for sure what exactly would happen, considering it's Anders who's saying it. I don't really think there has ever been a case like Anders and Justice before, at least that we know of.

From what Justice says in Awakening, we know that no Fade spirit/demon ever returns across the veil once it passes into the mortal realm, right? It just dies. What happens when it dies is left up to speculation, same as when mortals die. And Justice doesn't want to die.

I'd imagine that the worst possible outcome would occure, in that Justice takes possesion of Anders corpse. Whether or not Justice can ever be freed from the corruption that occured when he and Anders merged remains to be seen, though something tells me it's doubtful.

And I have a WoW raid to go too, I'll see you guys in a few hours!

That pic is amazing. It looks a bit like a Magic: the Gathering card illustration for some reason.

Yes, I used to play back in the day, heh

Hmmm... theoretical question:

If there was a way to remove Justice from Anders (without damaging him through the removal), but it was through a blood magic ritual that requires Justice to be placed inside a host with a strong bond with Anders (friendship, rivalry or romance) and both the spirit and the new host would be totally destroyed;

1) Would you do it?
and 2) Would it be Hawke, or another character (like murdering Fenris or Sebastian, both of whom despise Anders)

Fenders is the most epic rivalmance since... since... EVER.
(You think that's crack? I know a girl who says she ships Wrex/Zaeed/Shepard. DO NOT ASK.)

In this case it's SnapexGinny. Remember?
Fenris - Snape
Anders - Ginny

Oh, believe me, I've been entrenched in the ME kink meme.  I've seen just about everything there.  And weirdly enough, it scares me less than the DA kink meme.  Maybe because there's less random Loghain non-con :?

Now I'm picturing Fenris as young!Snape in his flashbacks, and it's absolutely ADORABLE.

I wouldn't do it because I think it won't be possible to separate Justice and Anders without severelly hurting, or even possibly killing, Anders, especially on the friendship path.

But if I had to do it, I'd choose Sebastian. Good riddance.

There's nothing wrong with Fenris/Anders. But it makes you wonder how subversive their relationship would be especially since Anders approves of you selling Fenris out to Danarius. How long before they decide that a relationship based on angry sex and virulent sexual tension simply isn't enough to hold them together? Hell, I don't understand why they haven't put differences aside for 7 friggin' years. They're not so dissimilar.

I find Fenders... a bit squicky. Even if the art is good, I still just raise an eyebrow at it. I guess I just can't reconcile the pairing with the characters.

As comedy, maybe.

It doesn't make me cringe, but my mind goes blank whenever I try and picture it.

It's like my minds going:  "You want me to imagine this... why exactly...?"

It kind of does that for Fenders, too. But mmmm... eye-candy. It's like that GIF of Seb and Anders making out...

Alright, I'll answer this before I leave for really reals.

It's hard to say. I admit to liking the Anders/Justice merger. I like that hopeless, desperate, lose/lose scenario. As a player, probably not, but as my canon Hawke, I think he would.

He'd do anything for Anders in the name of love, afterall. If that meant saving him through a magic blood ritual that would kill a very unwilling participant, well, the ends justify the means.

Oh Maker, my Hawke has been around Anders too long. ****. He'd just have to live with the knowledge that he probably tricked, betrayed, and then murdered a friend in order to do it.

That said, even it a seperation were possible, I doubt it would be without utterly destroying whatever was left of Anders.

Exactly.
I can imagine Alistair/Morrigan....just because they were pretty nasty to eachother but they didn't absolutely HATE eachother.
While Anders is all like, "So. When are we going to hand Fenris over to his former master?"
And Fenris is like, "Kill him. Just....kill him."

Let's see...

Anders: Templars are bad!
Fenris: Magic is bad!

Blood magic is evil!!!

When I loose my temper, I kill people!

Yes I would do it even if it would be harmful to Anders.
I would have it be Hawke for the sheer angst factor. Plus I like the rest of the party.

Well, as I said, it doesn't make sense ingame, but in fiction etc it works.

Ultimately, the reason they hate each other so much isn't really based on a personal level, it's more about what each of them stands for. Fenris hates all mages. Anders hates everyone who hates mages. And if there's anything this game has shown us, it's that hate and love can go hand in hand :innocent:

I'm pretty tolerant of crack or pairings that make no sense in canon; I did spend four years of my life moderating and beta-ing in the Harry Potter fandom at the height of its crazy, it was kinda necessary.  And as long as people are willing to keep their fanon fanon, it's all cool.  One of my favorite pairings was Sirius/Remus, after all.

The only thing that bothers me is when people insist that their particular pet pairing has SUPPORT IN CANON ZOMG when it really makes no sense whatsoever.  And none of the Fenders folks do that, so it's all good, and we can enjoy the delicious, delicious eye-candy.

To answer my own question, I'd go through with such a ritual.
It'd be Hawke, and she'd entrust Anders back to the Warden, and there would be much angsting and aguments of:
"It should have been me!"
"She died for you! Are you going to render her sacrifice in vain!?"

What? I love angst.

Crack pairings can be made to work, but they're never gonna be canon.

Also: Sirius/Remus FTW.

I did both friendly and rivalry path. I still fail to see how some people think that the rivalry aims at breaking Anders and make him a wretch.

I certainly wouldn't say that's the aim of the rivalry path, but it's definitely the ultimate result.

The problem with it is that he only realizes he's been wrong after it's far, far too late to fix it. I'd go as far as to say rivalry Anders really can't continue to live in any functional capacity (for the templar ending, anyway, though the guilt and/or Vengeance is just as likely to eat him alive in the long run on the mage end), but it's debatable whether it's better he dies, miserable, with genuine remorse for his actions, or continues on believing everything he's done is ultimately justifable.

This.

So to me rivalmancing Anders means fighting to keep Anders as a person rather than letting him be subsumed into Vengeance.  It's Anders I love, not Justice and not this demon into which they are both combining.  So I rival him because it's the only way I can still see him in this amalgamation.  And as often as not I grant his wish that I release him from the pain of fighting to stay with me (and, as a side effect, face what his short-sighted decisions have done).

*cackles* I loved FA. Nothing funnier than being in a debate about how Lily Potter was a Sue. (Then the debates about Ginny that lead to debats about H/G, which always dragged H/Hr into it).

Good times, good times.
