I agree with this. Honestly, that's kind of how I saw Anders from the start in DA2. He seemed to feel things so much stronger than most people.

Also, I too thought his ultraromanticness was adorable. Hawke was a little less excuseable. TIL THE DAY WE DIE!

I thought that line was sweet, but the "Noting is more important than love!!!" line during the Questioning Beliefs quest in act 3 did make me cringe a bit.

Which is why my Hawke said, "This is war.  We cannot be weakened by our feelings."  Appropriate for the character?  Yes.  Creepy as all hell?  Yes.  But at least not as cringe-worthy.

EDIT:  Balls.  ToP.

And then facepalmed.

Seriously, Hawke? Seriously!?
Your cousin would Gibbs-slap you for that.

Just picked up Justice in Awakening the other day. I hate having to get him last. While running around Amaranthine with those two and Anders, Justice and Nate had this banter:

Nathaniel: What happens when this body of yours...expires?
Justice: How long does such a process take?
Nathaniel: I don't know. Can you still walk around once you're simply bones?
Justice: So I'm led to believe, yes.
Warden/Anders/Nathaniel:
Nathaniel: That is incredibly disturbing.

Skeleton Kristoff would have been even creepier than Zombie Kristoff. Ewww.

I'd forgotten Anders did this: When you're talking with Justice about the Baroness, he freaks out about ticking off a powerful mage like her.

Warden: Come on, it'll be fun.
Anders: This "fun" you're talking about looks a little more like "stupid" from over here. *disapproves -3*
Warden: <_< *grumble* Zev would think this was fun. Stupid elf, running off to stupid Antiva. *mopes*

Dialogue wheel: Move in? Oh, yeah, sure. Whatever.
Hawke: I WANT YOU RIGHT HERE, TIL THE DAY WE DIE!!!!!!<3<3<3<3<3<3!!!!<3<3!

Ugh. I really wish Hawke could ask Anders to move in a more normal manner. That line makes me cringe every time.

Worst part is you can't even avoid it with the sandwich line. You still have to pick it to progress the romance. :(

Ah yeah, that line. I kind of agreed with it in spirit. Like, love is one of the most important/powerful forces in the world, or something like that. But I didn't agree with what the line was saying in that situation which was- our love is more important than this cause.

I... don't know if I'm making sense anymore... :pinched:

Hmmm... theoretical question:

If there was a way to remove Justice from Anders, but it was through a blood magic ritual that requires Justice to be placed inside a host with a strong bond with Anders (friendship, rivalry or romance) and both the spirit and the new host would be totally destroyed;

1) Would you do it?
and 2) Would it be Hawke, or another character (like murdering Fenris or Sebastian, both of whom despise Anders)

I wouldn't do it.  How would destroying a third life make this any better?  If I were Anders I wouldn't thank Hawke for either volunteering to die for me (which would rather defeat the purpose) or committing murder to rectify something I brought on myself.

Yeah, that sucks. I usually pick the "ZOMG don't EVAR leave!!!" line so that the next one at least seems more believable. I think Anders' asking to move in sounds less awkward that way too.

I do see what you mean. The line could have been worded better. "Love is important too" or something along those lines would have been better.

I love the "Don't ever leave" line. M!Hawke's delivery in particular is pure

Thankfully my Hawke is a horrible influence on Anders with Justice and the Chantry, so she went wit the red "This is war" option. This is why we can't have nice things, Hawke.

I had something similar in mind when I first wrote that response. Hopefully Anders and Hawke will never combine their creep levels, or we'll all be doomed. Doooooomed.

It would be better if, you know, sarcastic or aggressive Hawkes got a different line. I can buy it with my diplomatic Hawke.

Yeah the don't ever leave line isn't so bad. It's the UNTIL THE DAY WE DIE that gets me every time. :pinched: Does not help that most of my romancing Anders Hawkes are aggressive.

One of the very few instances in which the voiced/directed dialogue for Hawke bothered me.

My Hawke loves Anders as much as any other, but she's not super-romantic like him.  She's the calmer, rational anchor for him.  She's not likely to egg him on with grand declarations of eternal love.

Been lurking for the last few hours, couldn't find the right time to jump in!

Miri1984 wrote...

Those people who love "Anders" and not "Justice" are all rivaling him, right?

Do you mean personally or Hawke?

I'm a bit . . . ambivalent about Justice, on the one hand there's the black and white mentality, but on the other hand, Anders would probably still be extremely flippant and selfish without that influence.
I RP'd my Hawke as not necessarily liking Justice per se, but understanding at least that the spirit is in part where Anders' passion for mage freedom comes from, and that is something she loves about him/them/whatever. I friendmanced him with this Hawke for the record.

Also, Harry Potter fandom. I used to be reasonably involved, then it started going crazy and I backed - away - slowly. But still totally stalked Azkaban's Lair. Remus/Sirius forevar!

Edit: OMG, do you guys read/type at super speed or something?

Okay, I make fun of it, but I will admit my canon Hawke always uses the TIL THE DAY WE DIE!!!!!!! line instead of the sandwich one. The sandwich one has an adorable response on Anders' part, but I can't ever imagine my canon Hawke saying that. I mean, she would say snarky things, but not often when it came to the romance.

Especially when it's the first time Anders has completely admitted his feelings, I feel like she has to say something similar back. I just wish it was a little less over the top.

I loved that line. :(  It was so appropriate for Margaret at the moment.  And she was thinking, at time, of how much she missed her brother.
