It's not in the current patch, if that's you're asking. I imagine it would be good to bring up in the bugs thread, if it hasn't been. Though I'm certain Ryazaki has no doubt done so.

Annnnd it's now headcanon for me that Mal spent some time as a pirate mage before settling down with Leandra. I don't care if it doesn't fit in the timeline it works for my twisted little universe!

It's not that I hate Alistair for it, I just thought that it was a very selfish and naive thing to do. Of course it was a reaction, of course it was a decision that was clouded by emotion, but in the end he left the only two remaining Grey Wardens to their fate. Loghain could have died during the Joining, and there could have been only two wardens. 

It's funny, but my Hawkes have all completely empathized with Sebastian calling for Anders' head, unlike my  Wardens with Alistair calling for Loghain's.  Even my lone Warden who did not spare him harbored some resentment towards Alistair, after the fact, for basically giving her an ultimatum.  I, as a player, understand where he's coming from even if I think stomping out of the Landsmeet was childish...at best.  But most of my Wardens were all like, "don't let the door hit you on the ass..."

The worst part is, I'm one of those weird rare people who love all four characters.  Why do I have to choose?? WHYYYYYY

So wait, I'm confused. Has Malcolm been apostate his whole life and Carver the templar helped him avoid getting caught? Or was he in Kirkwall Circle and the nice templar helped him escape?

Yes, I don't enjoy reading a lot, so I generally don't play catch up. If it were a big long thing to answer then I probably would have tried though.
No, I didn't mean the current patch, clearly it's not fixed in that Hence why is said "they are fixing"

Anyway, good. Maybe now I can get the templar achievement.

He had to have been in the Kirkwall Circle at some point because that's where he met Ser Carver (who he named his twin son after). Carver helped him escape. (The templar) Then sent letters through some Mage dude (forgot his name) in the Gallows. He held on to the letters and you give them to Carver (if Hawkes a mage an after the Birthright quest).

Really? I always thought Mal met Leandra shortly after escaping the Circle and they ran off to Ferelden. I didn't realize there was actually a period in which he adventured around. This kinda makes me theory of pirate mage Mal even more likely

All the more reason to have Malcolm content in future DLC. Clear this stuff up.

It also makes me unreasonably happy that he did merc work, since my canon Hawke was a merc her first year in Kirkwall. Really the whole Leandra/Malcolm, Hawke/Anders similarities are getting weird. Deliciously weird.

It's in one of the codexes. He wanted to say goodbye to Leandra before running away so sneaked to the noble party. But Leandra didn't want to part with him and so they ran away that night. So romantic~ <3

Gotta love the Hawke/Amell family.

The Amell line "cursed" with magic.

Leandra - disgraced her parents.
Whatserface Amell - Lost standing after all her kids were ages
Gamlen - 'Nuff said.
Charade (or whatever) - I dunno. She was just wierd.

Malcolm Hawke - Renegade Pirate Mage FTW!!! (It's my chosen story, an I'm sticking to it)

Carver - I'm sick of being in your shadow!!!
Bethany - Hello, I'm a goody two shoes! 

Next up for the gene-pool we have:
Anders - renegade mage abomination.
Merrill - Naive blood mage.
Isabela - Maker help your children, they're doomed. Doomed.
Fenris - Maker help you if your kids are mages*

*Seriously, with both Fenris and Hawke with magic in their genes...
