Hmm, listening to the m!Hawke comments, I noticed this:

The way the two Hawkes say "Anders' " is different. Lady Hawke just pronounces it Anders while man Hawke says Anderses. I seem to recall us talking about the pronunciation a million pages ago when someone asked if it should be written Anders' or Anders's.

Anyway, random observation is random.

EDIT: Oh, blarg, top.

Yesssssssssssss.

It makes their love unhappier to me. Like maybe Anders also fell in love with what he used to be before Justice.

Yeah I noticed it too and was actually meaning to bring it up here but forgot. I dunno, both kind of sound silly. I'm not sure. Just saying "Anders'" sounds wrong somehow but then "Anderses" is so silly.

M!Hawke's pronunciation of "Anders's" actually drives me mad. For the most part, I believe it's based on where you live and what you were taught.

I was taught that, when added a possesive onto a word which already ends in S, you only had an apostrophe. Can't tell you how many people argue that with me, but both are considered correct.

I say "Anders'", personally. Just rolls off the tongue better. :3

I never thought about it like that.

To be fair, his Awakening codex does hint at him being a bit of a narcissist. ;)

Yeah, when it came up in the thread ages ago, I think it was settled that the current rule is to spell the possessive without the added s.

I also just say "Anders" for the possessive.

That's what I was taught in school, too. But then I was always taught that you never pronounce the "g" in the "-ing" and "t" in "often", and then I came to study in a part of England where they do those exact two things. I was so confused. :o

So that's why Anders was taking so long in the Mirror of Transformation. He was trying on the Awakening ponytail and sexytimes ensued.

Oh, just had to say, sarcastic m!Hawke ftw. He even had the audacity to tell Marethari she wasn't his type. A++++ right there.

Different bolded but also whut?

Where is this place? Is it up north? *is a southerner*

Edit: Also, as a fairly recent Linguistics graduate I can tell you that neither s's or s' is correct (or incorrect). It is completely up to the writer which they choose, but most people find the single s' more aesthetically pleasing. /language nerd

Well, there isn't exactly a g sound in '-ing' to begin with (-ɪŋ).

I'd only ever heard the non-nasalized n in slang, though.

I know, that's the point. These weird people added a sound "g" to the  "-ing" when they spoke.

Oh, lol! I'm used to thick Yorkshire, Scots and West Country so I can usually decipher them, but it must be hellish if you're new to it! At least the Scots don't hate Americans as much as the English though <_<

Btw, Anders. Post is totally on topic now

Erm, it could be ɪŋg in Birmingham. They do this weird half glottal stop at the end of 'ing' words that you don't find anywhere else in the country. It's why the rest of us like to make fun of them. 'Cos we're nice like that. ^_^
