The "t" in often is supposed to be silent according to Oxford English pronounciation. Also, the letter "H" is pronounced "Aitch" because that's how the word "H" is spelled. People who say "Haitch" are COMMON.

*looks down her nose at them*

I totally love this Anders/Karl pic:

It amazes me how many English accents and dialects there are. Russian is spoken by a lot of people across a huge territory as well and it sounds pretty much the same everywhere.

Oh I love that art too! D'awww imagine the cute inexperienced innocent Anders.

Try Chinese ^_^  On the few occasions that I've been back to China, I've found my father's side of the family to be practically unintelligible.

Also, d'awww at Anders.  I just had a long conversation with a friend about depressing Act 3 Anders, good to see him happy.

*hugs Miri* I love youu! That's one of my pet hates, along with getting 'your' and 'you're' muddled up, could of instead of could've, and 'I could care less.' That means you care goddamnit! /irrelevant rant.

Oh, also, song suggestion. Again, also already associated with another character, but the lyrics fit: Gollum's Song

Did you guys all like Anders as much in Awakening? I didn't really care for him in DA:A. I mean, he was fun and, being a cat lover, I enjoyed the bits with Ser Pounce-A-Lot but that was it. I liked other Awakening companions a lot more - Justice, Nathaniel, Sigrun. I wasn't that much excited about the possibility of him returning in DAII (until they revealed the Justice twist).

ETA: ditto on above. "Could/shoud/would of" drives me maaaad. Oh and "could care less", too... :pinched:

Sorry this conversation made me think of teil. It's German though sadly people who don't use the language much mind themselves using it to loosely and getting weird looks. I normally ask them if they know what the song "Mien Teil" is about.

actualy he was my favorite part of awakenings (well, besides sir pounce). And you liked Sigrun? She never climbed the ranks as one of my favorites. i mean, she was cool and awesome, but i liked Most of the others more.

I liked Anders in Awakening. He creeped me out.

Also, I think I remember hearing that the t in often shouldn't be pronounced because pronouncing it is a result of reading the odd spelling. Or something. It's like an over correction. Or, rather, the word is recorded a certain way and then changes due to people reading from that way.

I loved him in DAA! I did hate one thing about him, though. Something that has been fixed in DA2. Alistair's facial animations. Gawwwwd it's annoying how they make the same faces all the time. Especially the way their eyebrows scrunch and eyes narrow...

I didn't even get Awakening until a month or so before DAII came out, but even before then Anders was one of my more favorite characters.
Though when Awakening first came out, the descriptions of him I kept seeing from people on the forums made me think he was Daffyd from Little Britain.
That and complaining that he looked like Alistair.

I liked him though Justice and Nate were my fave.  The elf could go hug a really spiky tree for all I care.

I loved Anders is Awakening. He's just the kind of jolly fellow to see get broken.

Evolution of language is weird. And fascinating. Funny how we say "head over heels", for example, even though it makes no sense. It's supposed to be the other way round but people kept using it the wrong way until it stuck.

--
Hehe, I must be the lone DAII Anderstian convert. Or just rare. Now that I think about it, I realise I didn't dig deeper with Anders in Awakening. There was more to him but I wasn't interested enough to look.

lol, creeped you out?

I think i only pronounce the "t" in often if it's in a humorous/sarcastic/fun sentence of some sort. It adds a fun accent to the word.

To be honest, I tended to like companions from DA:O and Awakenings equally. I never really got why people would call Morrigan a b****, Alistair whiny, Zevran a ho-bag etc etc. Same with Awakenings. I guess I liked Velanna and Justice the least and Anders the most, but I identified with Anders the most, and so did my Warden, so it was kind of a given. Plus his banter is hi-frickin-larious!

Ugh, language logic fail, always makes me go JUSTICERAGE.

Justice and Sigrun were my favorites.  Though I did like all the Awakenings characters, even crazy, crazy Velanna.

For some reason, I have a hard time imagining an inexperienced, innocent Anders.

Maybe that's just me.

I totally suspect he read steamy novels while in the Circle (and probably before being shipped off to the Circle) and was seducing Karl, among others, before he even took his Harrowing. Yup. My HeadCanon dictates Pervert!Anders.

I like Velanna too, actually, although probably less than other DA:A companions (well, I like her as much as Oghren, lol). She gets a lot of hate though.

Yay, someone else likes Velanna! Well, I say like . . . doesn't hate I guess.

I liked him in Awakening okay but I prefer the DA2 incarnation. I was pretty ambivalent about all of the companions in Awakening, to be honest. I've only bothered to play it through twice, the first time around I was kind of bitter about the Alistair cameo being so impersonal, and I hated Oghren, so that really set the tone for me. I viewed Anders as an Alistair-wannabe, so I liked him enough but I was a bit resentful. :P

The second time I played Awakening through was after DA2, so I was pretty much on "omg foreshadowing!!" mode, which made everything just a wee bit sad. :?

Yeah. His opening sequence weirded me out. As did his talking about solitary.

And I pronounce a lot of letters that shouldn't be pronounced. ;____; I had to change a lot of my words acting or else I'd get teased.

Every time i heard Velanna's voice all i could think of was Azula from Avatar. Grey DeLisle has such a distinct voice there

His intro creeped you out?

Heh. I saw it and instantly became happy in the pants place, so to speak.

"Yup. I don't care if you killed those Templar. Just keep talking and smiling like that and I'll do whatever you want. Uh huh."
