But not as oddly satisfying as Devouring a Boss to death, especially if they're attacking Anders or Varric. I try to position Hawke on the far side of the enemy, though, so no one can see what she's doing. It is awesome, but kinda gross.

This!  I was not expecting my Reaver 2H Warrior to be so frighteningly badass.  Sacrificial Frenzy + Scythe into a pile a enemies + Whirwhind + Mighty Blow whoever is still standing.  It's violent and alarming and AWESOME.

She's my Anders rival-mancer, and I credit her violent and complete disregard to her own health as a major reason why she and Anders get together in the first place.  He spends so much time healing her that they couldn't help but bond.

It seems that, the way the thread is going, Anders is the most hated companion in the game. I mean come on!

He's this game's Morrigan. Because of his actions, he produces some pretty strong reactions by players. Personally, I think he's a strong character with a lot of depth and I sympathize with his position even if I can't condone his actions. But when a character does something so drastic, you have to expect some negative feedback.

I don't think it's the negative feedback that is bugging people, but the offensive and inflammatory remarks made towards fellow players because of their choices.

Agreed. I can see why people hate him. Hell I hate him at times too. I find myself screaming "GODDAMNIT ANDERS" pretty often. 

But saying his fans have battered wife syndrome? Those people can GTFO.

Indeed. Also, I would say that he is hated as Alistair or Kaidan were/are. If the character is not portrayed as badass, heterosexual, i-am-all-that-is-man ideal he is hated. God forbid that characters have emotions and problems. Meh, I've been through this with all my favorite characters and I still can't get use to it.

@Naamah_bb I totally agree - I think Anders has the potential to be hated even more than Loghain and Alistair were in the last DA. I can totally understand people hating what he did, but I'm with everyone else here, the fact that I can see the reasoning behind his actions and don't automatically say "he's a monster and deserves to be killed" does NOT make ME a monster who deserves to be killed.

folks let's face it, if Anders were a chick, a lot more people would like him. Morrigan and Isabella for example. There's legitamte reasons to dislike ALL of them but Anders gets the most flak because 1)he's a dude and people, especially other guys, are a lot less harsh on (pretty) chicks compared to other dudes 2)a lot of guys hate that anders flirted with them

at least when people disliked loghain most of them could sort of respect him but couldn't forgive him for what he did. anders doesn't even get that much.

That's just it! I mean, everything each of the characters do is motivated by something/someone. It's not all black and white. I agree that the act in the end was totally uncalled for and overly extreme but majority of the gamers don't seem to TRY to understand the actions at all...

aww, how sad! I was new to rpg's when i played the first game and didn't even know there were romance story lines, so when Alistair walked up and gave my character the rose i was surprised and quite taken with the story that followed. It honestly turned out to be the best romance story i've ever seen in a video game. Props to the writers!

I agree. If he was a sexy woman, we'd all hate him and they would all like him. Maybe. I would probably still like "him" because he gave me a strong emotion.

This paradox also explains why people complain about Fenris being whiney, but not Merril or other characters. It's perhaps easier to see flaws in one's gender -- or to feel annoyed or even threatened by them.

Which I would say would explain my wanton hate for Isabela, other people don't seem to like her either. Not because she is "loose" but because that's all that was explored with her.

Ah yes. Loghain. What he did was not at least extreme. <_< I mean, how many ppl did he sent to their deaths? But as you said, everyone loved him and in the end stuck by him to the end.

My favorite characters in this game (besides Varric) are Carver, Anders, and Fenris.  All of whom are accused of being whiny.
