How frequently do such things occur in non-chantry mages then?
The Dalish.
The Tevinter Imperium.
Hedge-Mages who have received proper training from fellow apostates? (Hawke, Bethany...)

Insufficient data. If we were to go by the mages we encounter in DAO and DA2 it would be a good third (I count the ones in the mages collective as Hedge Mages).

It's quite irritating.

For the Dalish, we have examples of Zathrian and Merrill.

Tevinter, we haven't seen.

Eclectic category, Hege Mages - Bethany, Morrigan and Flemeth.
There was also Wynne's old apprentice who ran away and seems to be OK now

Chantry examples:
Kirkwall. Abominations everywhere. Blood mages. Everywhere. And then the clincher - Chanty goes BOOM.
Ferelden - Overrun by abominations thanks to one man who got overlooked. (And yet we still got a fair mini-army...)

It's a shame the rivalry system wasn't in Awakening-the only way to get approval points with Justice is by picking the "Hey, the mortal world's pretty sweet, am I right?" options instead of the "Kristoff's life is not yours" ones.

Not that it would change anything, really. It just feels strange to go back to being the Warden, knowing what I know happens with Justice and Anders. And now that I'm actually paying attention to him, instead of just going, "Oh, cool, finally I get a tank," his banters are really interesting.

Aside from the funny bits (Sigrun stealing stuff from him and Oghren being Oghren) or Ander's banters (questions about demons), a lot of them focus Justice dying. Velanna points out that he might end up stuck to Kristoff's motes of dust, and he brings up the possibility of inhabiting another corpse, perhaps a female one. Sigrun wonders if he can be slain in the mortal world, since demons can.

And of course's there's Nathaniel I -Was--Just-Making-Idle-Conversation Howe who suggests that Justice possess a living body. :?

No wonder Justice stuck around instead of going back. The entire Awakening crew, including the Warden, is encouraging him and/or throwing presents at him.

TLDR: Points that probably got brought up a bazillion pages ago. And everyone in Awakening (except Varel, who was awesome :wizard:) was an idiot for encouraging Justice and giving him presents.

Before the Chantry, abominations were a more common occurance amongst the "common people". If this is due to them just being contained and thus the common people getting spared or that the Circles work somewhat, I don't know.

Tevinter has circles however. The high ranking mages get liberties, and probably their favorites too, but for the average mage it is the same.

Is it wrong that I see this picture and all I can think is that they must have flipped it because the windows are on the other side of the bedroom? The light on the ground is correct, but the rays of light would be coming through solid wall.

I think the Chantry and the mages should put more effort into researching the mge issues.
Why do demons want to possess mages? What is there in the physical world that they want?
And what about special circumstances like Anders and Flemeth?
What causes abominations?
Sure there's greed, ignorance (Connor and Meredith's sister, for instance), insufficient willpower... but they can also be pushed into the possession in areas where the veil thins, by their own fear.

And most turn to blood magic out of fear for the Chantry.
The templars can stop normal spells, blood magic is their only defence.

Understanding might help prevention.

Maybe not flipped, but took the lighting from the fire and made it a window or something.

The thing is, he either was wearing only that when the fun started, or he stripped down and threw that back on.

I honestly don't know if my Hawkes would be patient enough to get through his thousands of layers only to have him be like "Wait! Too exposed!" *jacket* And I love the furry/feathery pauldrons.

Also, I like to think the sleeves are part of the quilty vest and not the pauldrons. Otherwise, the snugness of them and the thought of that on top of a thick vest makes me feel awkward when I look at him.

Templars can stop blood magic too. It is just more potent. And how are they supposed to study Flemeth? Other than inducing abominations I don't see how they could research it, and that would be a horribly cruel practice.

And I think fear is known to be a reason. The desire to live, protect others etc.
